Funnily enough: This has happened in real life at least once. On D-Day, the captain of the USS Texas ordered the starboard(?) side of the ship to be partially flooded, so the main batteries could get a higher elevation angle to increase the range. Because of this, the USS Texas was the only ship to actually hit its targets that day. XD

@@wreita Trigger does not have one canon aircraft. It changes as the game progresses. F-16C for Mage. The rest of Mage, Golem, and Gargoyle used F16s as well, and it's the starting aircraft. F-15 for Spare, though this can vary. In the cutscene after mission 7, where Avril checks out your plane, the engine nozzles look a lot like those on the F-15. F-15 for early Strider arc and DLC missions, as the cutscene before DLC mission 3 briefing depict Trigger in an F-15. Strider and Cyclops also use the F-15. F-22 for endgame. I'd say starting at Farbanti is when Trigger starts to use the Raptor. The cutscene before mission 20 briefing does show Trigger's 3 strikes on an F-22. I just don't think he used an F-22 the entire campaign. The Air Force certainly wouldn't give a brand-new pilot an F-22 for their first sortie, definitely wouldn't give a convict an F-22 (not like they have one, anyway. All 444 aircraft and built from scrap.)

He is canonically 2nd in kills after you (though tbf everyone is 2nd when their kills are all 0) and he's the guy who handles the air targets when you're tasked with ground stuff (in that case good job Count i have like 20 missiles on my ass)

@@aoki6332 I do recall that would happen in the older PS2 games. They'd steal kills sometimes but it wasn't often enough to fail the mission. That's unfortunate.
During the last Arsenal Bird fight originally the music would just play and there'd be the swelling chorus. However the guy in charge felt like the game was still lacking, so with the entire game finished and ready to ship he called up in the middle of the night his sound team. They redid the the OST so that it was timed with the conversation and the shield drop, and then went through and retouched all the other OSTs to improve them.
To be fair, Capt Torres was a highly respected naval commander who with no hesitation sank his own boat with crew onboard down to the bottom of the ocean simply because he was ordered to, and instead of questioning after several months of no follow up orders, decided to stay down there for a year and a half, subsisting on anime and the heartfelt feelings of his men. One day he hears a russlin' on his roof and resurfaces to investigate. Seeing world war 3 happening ace combat style and noticing he has a boat, he points out this heresy by trying to kill anyone that doesn't have a boat, the fact a million people didn't own boats is their problem. The two enemy forces explain that mass airborne genocide is ok, but innocent genocide is not. To Torres, a man who only knows of anime and bro love, he sees not the difference. Even after losing countless men, even after surrendering his sub, giving up the nukes, he refused to give up what was important.
Poor Count. He got on my nerves early on so I was surprised that he was the one that wound up making it out of Spare Squadron with me. But then by the end of the game I really wound up liking the guy. He's like an inversion of Pixy and your other wingmen in the series. He starts out as a rival and an asshole but matures as the game progresses and learns to respect you and stop being a whiny bitch, especially after Wiseman dies. When he flies into the tunnels with you at the end of the game when he didn't have to, by then you know it isn't his ego driving him. He has finally become your bro.
Tabloid/Count should have been merged into one character, Tabloid gets all the cutscenes and Count gets all the game time lol. I don't think a lot of players even noticed the character progression of Count as a result because people pay less attention to radio chatter. Either that or you should've stayed as a convict until the last mission IMO, killing off Full Band, Champ and the gambling dude was too quick and that asshole leader in Mage squadron needed a confrontation. Húxiān was the only Strider squadron member I even noticed, and I don't know when she stopped being Cyclops.

That convict part is pretty similar to 6 where you get grounded for disobeying an order and taking out the squad that killed half your military then two minutes later they ask for your help because they remember you and your partner are the only 2 competent pilots in the entire airforce since everyone else needs you to tell them to shoot the bad guys

In spite of how far your editing prowess has come, the ending of this video is fucking spectacular on its own. The contrast of the backing music with the chaos of the rest of the story & video, still laden with humor-filled commentary, yet, with _just_ enough sincerity to cap things off in an immensely satisfying way.
I watched this and thought “haha, this game funny. Ima play it so I can laugh at the story” then I fucking played it for 10 hours straight and now that I’m finished with it I find a hole now in my soul that needs to be filled with another batshit crazy story and fun gameplay. Damn you maxor for making like the funny plane game!!!
Once you’re done with Project Wingman, play Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies. While the graphics aren’t as flashy, the rest of the game is miles better than AC7. Best game I ever played, it literally changed my life. Don’t expect the same results, but is a beauty for sure
@@Mobius118 As much as I love Ace Combat 4, saying the enitrety of it (aside from graphics) is better then Ace Combat 7 is just, blantently false. Sure, Ace Combat 7's story is a bit dumb, but the story of Ace Combat has always been dumb. Yes, that includes Ace Combat 4's story as well, altough it is a bit more grounded then its sequals. And in terms of general gameplay, like, you have to be high on something to say 4's gameplay is better then 7's.
@@SiphonRayzar I realize you're entitled to your opinion that my claim is false. No worries there. Personally, AC04's story is objectively stronger, makes more sense, and has FAR fewer plot holes. I like what 7's story is trying to do and it could have been the best but it's lacking a few key things. Graphics, of course 7 comes out on top. It looks GORGEOUS. Though I must admit it feels almost... cartoonish sometimes... either way its a sure winner there. The gameplay of 04 feels better and is closer to realism than is 7. It means you have to think more about your maneuvers instead of just slapping the high g's unthinkingly like in 7. (though I admit my appreciation of its 'feel' is entirely subjective; however the observation of how mindlessly you can play 7 compared to 04 results from hours of gameplay of both games). The radio callouts in Shattered Skies also are more realistic (the most realistic in the series *so far* ). When your buddies call out a Fox 2, or a splash, they actually did what they said. Whereas in 7, I have noticed that isn't the case; on the rare occasion it happens it isn't always actually occurring in game. When 04 AWACS gives you a vector, it's not always scripted. It can happen somewhat randomly (i.e. it's not just for some big plot point like in 7 when a drone shows up. I'm not sure how to explain this but I've played both games for over 200 hours each and it's something you just have to trust me on). 04's pilots are professional and act more like real pilots would then the drama queens in 7. I get that AC is dramatic, but 7 was just a bit too much compared to 4 imo. I totally get that some of this is my opinion, and you're right there, but you also mentioned you have to be high to say 04's gameplay is better... when I just as easily claim you have to be high to say 7's gameplay is better. So realizing 7 is only subjectively better can help us realize that people enjoy different games differently! You're totally welcome to think it's better. All I can say from playing both for such exorbitant amounts of time is that Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies comes out the clear winner. Sorry for the long one, don't expect you to read it all. I could go on more but probs should call it quits... Thanks for the conversation!
@@Mobius118 No worries mate. I LOVE Ace Combat 4, I've been playing it since the PS2 launched. I will agree that 4's story is more straightforward and grounded, and I do actually like that direction more then what the series would end up doing, starting with 5. I largely agree with you about Ace Combat 4 qualities, but the core gameplay in 7 (to me) is smoother and less, janky, then 4's. Ace Combat 4 is one of my nostolgic games from that era, but I have equally enjoyed my time with 7, and aside from the story, I believe it is a significant improvement across the board. I also just really like being able to abuse the high G maneuvers. Anyway, it's all good. I still love both games, I just don't think it's neccesarily true to state that 4 is still the "better" game altogether. Now, if we were to get a Ace Combat 4 remaster with improved graphics and tweaked gameplay to bring it up to pair, then it would be the better game simply because it's story is better. One can dream.

I remember playing the mission with the thunderstorm in the valley thingy and I got hit with lightning and was flying like a madman and everyone was going “WHAT THE F*UCK ARE YOU DOING” but I discovered if you just don’t steer while in wind turbulence thingys it just carrys you around every obstacle
I found an even better strategy: don't get baited into the canyon run. Your radar is look down/shoot down and the canyon is open from above. Fly above the canyon and when you are in position to attack swoop down for a missile strike. John Boyd may be a reformer but his energy manoeuvrability theory is solid for dogfighting.
Though this was a haha funny until I realized maxors summary of how the belkan scientist created hugin and munin was at least 40 times more concise than how it's explained in game

In reality Trigger canonically would have used the f22A Raptor throughout the campaign, it's even on the cover of the game

F-16C for Mage. The rest of Mage, Golem, and Gargoyle used F16s as well, and it's the starting aircraft.
F-15 for Spare, though this can vary. In the cutscene after mission 7, where Avril checks out your plane, the engine nozzles look a lot like those on the F-15.
F-15 for early Strider arc and DLC missions, as the cutscene before DLC mission 3 briefing depict Trigger in an F-15. Strider and Cyclops also use the F-15.
F-22 for endgame. I'd say starting at Farbanti is when Trigger starts to use the Raptor. The cutscene before mission 20 briefing does show Trigger's 3 strikes on an F-22.
I just don't think he used an F-22 the entire campaign. The Air Force certainly wouldn't give a brand-new pilot an F-22 for their first sortie, definitely wouldn't give a convict an F-22 (not like they have one, anyway. All 444 aircraft and built from scrap.)

During the last Arsenal Bird fight originally the music would just play and there'd be the swelling chorus.
However the guy in charge felt like the game was still lacking, so with the entire game finished and ready to ship he called up in the middle of the night his sound team.
They redid the the OST so that it was timed with the conversation and the shield drop, and then went through and retouched all the other OSTs to improve them.

To be fair, Capt Torres was a highly respected naval commander who with no hesitation sank his own boat with crew onboard down to the bottom of the ocean simply because he was ordered to, and instead of questioning after several months of no follow up orders, decided to stay down there for a year and a half, subsisting on anime and the heartfelt feelings of his men. One day he hears a russlin' on his roof and resurfaces to investigate. Seeing world war 3 happening ace combat style and noticing he has a boat, he points out this heresy by trying to kill anyone that doesn't have a boat, the fact a million people didn't own boats is their problem. The two enemy forces explain that mass airborne genocide is ok, but innocent genocide is not. To Torres, a man who only knows of anime and bro love, he sees not the difference. Even after losing countless men, even after surrendering his sub, giving up the nukes, he refused to give up what was important.

Poor Count. He got on my nerves early on so I was surprised that he was the one that wound up making it out of Spare Squadron with me. But then by the end of the game I really wound up liking the guy. He's like an inversion of Pixy and your other wingmen in the series. He starts out as a rival and an asshole but matures as the game progresses and learns to respect you and stop being a whiny bitch, especially after Wiseman dies. When he flies into the tunnels with you at the end of the game when he didn't have to, by then you know it isn't his ego driving him. He has finally become your bro.

Tabloid/Count should have been merged into one character, Tabloid gets all the cutscenes and Count gets all the game time lol. I don't think a lot of players even noticed the character progression of Count as a result because people pay less attention to radio chatter. Either that or you should've stayed as a convict until the last mission IMO, killing off Full Band, Champ and the gambling dude was too quick and that asshole leader in Mage squadron needed a confrontation. Húxiān was the only Strider squadron member I even noticed, and I don't know when she stopped being Cyclops.

Once you’re done with Project Wingman, play Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies. While the graphics aren’t as flashy, the rest of the game is miles better than AC7. Best game I ever played, it literally changed my life. Don’t expect the same results, but is a beauty for sure

Sure, Ace Combat 7's story is a bit dumb, but the story of Ace Combat has always been dumb. Yes, that includes Ace Combat 4's story as well, altough it is a bit more grounded then its sequals. And in terms of general gameplay, like, you have to be high on something to say 4's gameplay is better then 7's.
@@SiphonRayzar I realize you're entitled to your opinion that my claim is false. No worries there. Personally, AC04's story is objectively stronger, makes more sense, and has FAR fewer plot holes. I like what 7's story is trying to do and it could have been the best but it's lacking a few key things.
Graphics, of course 7 comes out on top. It looks GORGEOUS. Though I must admit it feels almost... cartoonish sometimes... either way its a sure winner there.
The gameplay of 04 feels better and is closer to realism than is 7. It means you have to think more about your maneuvers instead of just slapping the high g's unthinkingly like in 7. (though I admit my appreciation of its 'feel' is entirely subjective; however the observation of how mindlessly you can play 7 compared to 04 results from hours of gameplay of both games).
The radio callouts in Shattered Skies also are more realistic (the most realistic in the series *so far* ). When your buddies call out a Fox 2, or a splash, they actually did what they said. Whereas in 7, I have noticed that isn't the case; on the rare occasion it happens it isn't always actually occurring in game.
When 04 AWACS gives you a vector, it's not always scripted. It can happen somewhat randomly (i.e. it's not just for some big plot point like in 7 when a drone shows up. I'm not sure how to explain this but I've played both games for over 200 hours each and it's something you just have to trust me on).
04's pilots are professional and act more like real pilots would then the drama queens in 7. I get that AC is dramatic, but 7 was just a bit too much compared to 4 imo.
I totally get that some of this is my opinion, and you're right there, but you also mentioned you have to be high to say 04's gameplay is better... when I just as easily claim you have to be high to say 7's gameplay is better. So realizing 7 is only subjectively better can help us realize that people enjoy different games differently! You're totally welcome to think it's better. All I can say from playing both for such exorbitant amounts of time is that Ace Combat 04: Shattered Skies comes out the clear winner.

I will agree that 4's story is more straightforward and grounded, and I do actually like that direction more then what the series would end up doing, starting with 5.
I largely agree with you about Ace Combat 4 qualities, but the core gameplay in 7 (to me) is smoother and less, janky, then 4's. Ace Combat 4 is one of my nostolgic games from that era, but I have equally enjoyed my time with 7, and aside from the story, I believe it is a significant improvement across the board. I also just really like being able to abuse the high G maneuvers.
Anyway, it's all good. I still love both games, I just don't think it's neccesarily true to state that 4 is still the "better" game altogether.
Now, if we were to get a Ace Combat 4 remaster with improved graphics and tweaked gameplay to bring it up to pair, then it would be the better game simply because it's story is better. One can dream.

I remember playing the mission with the thunderstorm in the valley thingy and I got hit with lightning and was flying like a madman and everyone was going “WHAT THE F*UCK ARE YOU DOING” but I discovered if you just don’t steer while in wind turbulence thingys it just carrys you around every obstacle
I found an even better strategy: don't get baited into the canyon run. Your radar is look down/shoot down and the canyon is open from above. Fly above the canyon and when you are in position to attack swoop down for a missile strike. John Boyd may be a reformer but his energy manoeuvrability theory is solid for dogfighting.
