Cats don't wanna move when you want them to just whem you don't. and always walk right un front of ya! 😄
He's special for sure! Oliver is not supposed to be in the garage, but sometimes he escapes and will always walk right where I need to be! LOL Thanks for watching!
You need to start your video with a “ Hey guys! Welcome to the channel!”
The two things I struggle the most with remembering are: remembering to talk on video and film intro/outro’s. But I’ll definitely work on a “hey everybody”. Lol. Thanks for watching Pat.
Wish you showed the passenger side. That's the hard side, driver side is easy.
The one thing I saw someone else do is drop the sub-frame. DON'T DO THAT! If you drop and of the fram or control are bolts , than you MUST buy new ones. They are a one time use bolts! Since I also have to replace the bushings (I found out as I replaced the strut and drive shaft, it came apart as I removed the strut). Major headache! Might as well just planed on rebuilding the entire front suspension! After all 4 corners being rebuilt and repaired. The cost was the cost of this used car. Now I still have to replace the timing belt and related parts. I'm not going to get ride of this car any time soon!
The only trouble I remember having with the passenger side was getting the strut cartridge to actually go back into the lower knuckle. I originally actually had it in the video but took it out because I felt that there was no point to be redundant on the procedure. But I would say the driver side was easier than the passenger. I thought my struggle was because I had more room to work with in my garage on the driver side. I didn’t realize that it was a common thing for the passenger side to be harder. Thanks for the suggestion though, if I ever have to do it again, I’ll make sure to film the passenger side. 🙂
@@copenhagenblue8417Passenger side took me about 2 hours to get strut in back, cant get the knuckle get down enough form the drive shaft so i had to compress the spring while on car to get the strut inside of the knuckle, did he drivers side in 20 minutes 😂😅
@@cars_on_street yeah, I believe I had to use my pry bar and really press down on the control arm to get the cartridge to go in. It was a very tight fit. Glad I’m not doing it again anytime soon. But I’m also glad that you got yours done!
Ist es auf der Beifahrerseite genau gleich??
Thank you for your clear and informative video. I was watching as I plan to put lowering springs in my 2000 Beetle. I subscribed? You are in Copenhagen?
Well I am glad I could be of some help. :-). Actually I’m in Michigan. I have a 1985.5 Porsche that is Copenhagen Blue in color, so that’s where I got the name. Thanks for watching and subscribing, I really appreciate it!
@@copenhagenblue8417 Wow! Great! No problem. I live in Copenhagen area 👍🏻😁
Did you end up having to purchase a special socket for the strut mount nut?
No, I did not for the upper strut mount nut. The only thing I bought was a socket for splitting the knuckle. I actually just used my cordless impact to zip the nut off and on. My only concern was getting it torque down properly in the end. But I’ve not had any issues from putting it on with the impact and then using a torque wrench.
I need to replace my rear ones. Is it the same process?
I actually made a video separately on doing the rear shocks. It’s not a hard job, it’s actually easier to do than the front ones. Let me know if you can’t find it, I’ll post the link. :-)
Hey what exactly is the tool you used to spread the base of the strut to get it out?? Great video!👍
ATLIN Strut Spreader Tool - Strut Socket for Audi, VW, BMW, Mini, Ford www.amazon.com/dp/B08M6GHM93/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TRBDK72FVCWFXQQNDPZ9?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
This is the link I pull from my Amazon account. Let me know if it doesn’t work. But it’s only like $12 and works great. Thanks for watching :-)
Cheers Dude I figured it out should arrive tomorrow, tackling coilovers on my Beetle at the weekend same as the mk4👍
@@stuartgrogan472 Nice! let me know how it goes for you. You certainly have some fun planned. Hope it goes smoothly
@copenhagenblue8417 do you need the tool to replace the strut?
I've seen other videos they disconnect the ball joint and the hub, very long process.
I can see why they would do it, but I personally don't want extra work to do. LOL Thanks for watching!
@@copenhagenblue8417 thank you for your quick feedback, let me ask another question: do you think a pry bar could replace the strut Spreader tool?
@@andreacaldarone4909 honestly with the inconsistencies in the ability to apply leverage, I wouldn’t use a prybar. You could probably make it work, but I think it’ll be more of a fight.
@@copenhagenblue8417 I've asked since the tool you used isn't available in Amazon Italy
Und ist es auf der Beifahrerseite genau so zu tauschen???
Oder muss man anderes beachten?
The other side is a little bit harder. You still use the same idea, but have to press the control arm down further, it takes more effort to get it out. But it is the same basic concept.
@@copenhagenblue8417 okay. What is a control arm in german? Antriebswelle?
@@blackjack9863 my lack of speaking, German does not help me. lol But Google says that it’s Steuerarm. :-)
So I'm actually about to change mine out too. What brand did you go with and how much?
I used the FCS strut assembly 1336306 from rock auto. They’re for original ride quality and have a lifetime warranty. They’re $42.79 each plus shipping. I used the same brand for the rear shocks. The car rides well and I did have an alignment done just so everything is where is should be. Thanks for watching!
@@copenhagenblue8417thanks I was looking at rock auto last night
@@zacharyariail134 they’re all reasonably priced and I would recommend the strut spreader tool from Amazon. Especially if you’re dealing with rust. ATLIN Strut Spreader Tool - Strut... www.amazon.com/dp/B08M6GHM93?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
@@copenhagenblue8417 ok I ordered the strut nut. I'll look into that.
@@zacharyariail134Cool, well if you have any questions and I can help you, let me know.
