Worth mentioning.. This tutorial was performed on a Beetle with an automatic trans. With a manual trans there is much less obstruction and you do not need to drop the sub frame.
Jay G thank you for the tip. I’ll pin it to the top so everybody can see it . Thank you.
Swweet! That'll save me some work.
great point...for a few moments I was like..I'm not doing all that!
100% better explained here than any other videos I watched. My control arm on Driver's side bolt didn't clear the transmission pan. NOW, I can do it :)
Thanks! Awesome video. Helped where i was stuck.
Thank you for putting this video out. Definitely the driver side control arm is the worst out of the two. Since I was going that far, want ahead and replaced struts tie rod ends, all ball joints. With my daughter’s bug at 160,000 everything was loose. After the alignment steering is the best it’s been since it was new.
Great job!
Robert Cole thank you!
I see that you use LocTite and other get new stretch bolts. Does it matter either way?
I need your help? I have a problem? I have a 06 New Beetle 2.5L.Automatic. I'm Replacing P-Side Lower control arm. The front control arm (Bushing bolt). That nut for that bolt to tighten fill inside the frame. My guess is, the tack weld that held the nut inside the frame broke causing the nut to drop inside the frame. I can't tighten the bushing bolt. There's no nut for the bolt anymore. What can I do? I'm talking about the front bushing not the rear bushing. The rear bushing has a nut & a bolt. The front bushing only the bolt that comes out. There is no nut anymore for that bolt to tighten.
Has anyone tried dropping the trans pan instead of the subframe? I need to replace my trans pan anyways, so I'm wondering if I should do this while I've got it off. Good idea?
Hi. Do I need to put the car in 4 jackstands or 2 is okay?
Also, does it need an alignment after doing the lower control arm?
You can get away with just two. And I would recommend an alignment yes
Any idea what a shop may charge for the labor to change out both control arms . I would purchase appropriate parts and supply them to the shop
I just got a quote for 1600 with parts. I did struts tire rod, ends, all joints and both lower control arms for around 400 and 110 for the struts.
My car 2007 9c1 1.6l auto. There are part number 1j0407157b 1j0407158b .I can find part on ebay 1j0407151c is selling as like fitted with my car. Is this fitted ?thanks
The lower control arm are the same for both sides???
yes they are, they are just flipped. The Ball Joint comes off of the arm and is able to be installed on either side.
How many miles were on the car?
auxmike I don’t remember. If I had to guess I would say between 75 and 100 K
So you did not have to take off the axle nut?
No I did not remove it. If you feel like it’s going to help you then go ahead.
Thank you, am I the only person that hates new beetles?
Deifintiely not...there are many more
Hot damn. Talk about lack of serviceability.
bla bla bla blaa blaaaaa!
Hard to watch. you are all over the place. Focus step by step on just one side.
