    Thanks bmacvags, another job on the golf sorted thanks to your help :)
    For others reference:
    1. I found it helpful to put in the 2 bushing bolts and the ball joint leaving the drop link until last. Jack up the wishbone a bit to line up the bolt for the droplink.
    2. Symptoms, felt like track rod end was going ie vague steering, lots of wear on inside of tyre, slight pull to left on braking and simultaneous turning at low speed. All cured now!
    3. Didn't need to undo track rod end, It just took a lot of prying to get it out.
    4. Front bushing inside nut didn't break off in my case (thankfully!) 138k GT TDI
    Go for it, it's not hard just a bit fiddly :)
    Mark.

  • @chriss4165

    Just did this, and your wishbone bushing upgrade on one side of my car. Thank you - but!
    I ran into a problem though where my CV joint became disconnected inside the rubber boot at the gearbox end. Had to remove boot to slot it back in. Which eventually I managed to do.
    Have since learned there should be a retaining clip inside the joint to prevent this happening! So presumably this is somewhere inside the housing buried in the grease! No idea how this came off though as I didn’t pull anything hard.
    Anyway - a word of warning because it’s a very messy problem if this happens!

    Nice vid, always good to watch a run through first. I´m doing the same job on my Alhambra/Sharan. Finding a good squirt of silicon spray helps to ease the wishbones out of their mountings as they seem to sit quite tightly on the Sharan/Alhambra. Good work, keep it up.

    BMAC VAGS, what's your opinion on the TT bushings? Does the aded rigidity come at the expense of driver/passenger comfort? Do the TT bushings sufficiently dampen vibration and preserve comfort for the driver and passengers? Are these bushing suitable for a Jetta or GTI intended to be driven in comfort on public roads on a daily basis, and on long road trips?

    • @BMACVAGS
      @BMACVAGS  3 года назад

      Personally i think the TT Bushings are a good replacement in every aspect. To me there is no downsides to using tt bushings. They are stronger, last longer and give the same ride quality. Also will save you a fortune in repairs.

    • @RedondoBeach2
      @RedondoBeach2 3 года назад

      @@BMACVAGS Thanks for your perspective on the TT bushings. Also, my assumption is that the TT bushings are the same ones that were originally installed on the MKIV R32. Do you know if this is correct? Those are the bushings I ordered for my MKIV GTI. The difference between the two bushings is that the R32 bushings are solid and very stiff. The original GTI bushings look like the ones you replaced on your VW, more pliable than the R32, which led to my question/concern about ride comfort.

  • @ayeRIGHTyaBE
    @ayeRIGHTyaBE 10 лет назад

    This is the correct way to this job, although because i DIDNT know the TT bushibg would fit i was using ordinary bushing and your lucky if you get a year out of them, so i used to do this job over a pit, simply take out the bushing bolt and push the wheel forward, bushing housing became exposed, then using a screw press id made up I could simply push out and press in the new one, take pressure of wheel and it when straight back into place.

    quick question, my 03 Jetta TDI wagon keeps chewing the left front rotor. It is the ball joint that rubs against is upon sharp right turns. Thgis started after I replaced the left spindle and while at it installed coilover shocks. I lowered the front end about 1 inch. After the first rotor was chewed, I raised the car about half inch, but the rubbing continues. I'm considering to re-install the stock shocks, since I'm near the stock height and continue to have problems. There is no up/down or sideways play at the wheel, links are fine. I could use a little help here

    Thanks for posting this. I've got to replace the wishbone/control arm bushings on a VW Fox Urban which is, I believe, the same as the Polo. I've found a video on how to do it on the Polo and it's good. Doing the drivers side (UK right hand drive) and got as far as undoing the bolt holding the wishbone in place but the oil pan is in the way and I can't get it out! The guys in the video are doing the left hand side like you are and that's not a problem as the oil pan isn't in the way. Do I have to remove the oil pan or is there a trick for getting it out? Any information from anyone much appreciated.

    • @CptPoo

      The three bolts he removed from the outside of the control arm are the ball joint. The ball joint has one additional bolt that attaches it to the rotor assembly.

    • @fockyoumang
      @fockyoumang 10 лет назад

      CptPoo thank you. Everyone in the Volkswagen community are so very helpful, I really appreciate all the help I've been given in the comment sections of all the MK4 Golf GTi 1.8t videos. Thanks
      One more question about the new balljoints, because I purchased a pair (left and right) (2) new R32 control arms with the solid bushings already pressed, 2 new ball-joints and 2 new inner and outer tie-rods. My question is to anyone that can help is. On the ball-joint and outer tie-rod ends there is the main bolt with a torx head opening at the end of the main studs (which I'm figuring is to hold the stud to make sure it doesn't spin on you when torque'n it down, but there is onl a piece of plastic about ¾ of the way up the threads, there's no hole in the bolt for a cotter pin or in the stud. Are they new types of locking nuts? I've never seen them before and I don't know if they're safe enough to put on my car. I will post a video so anyone who wants to answer and knows exactly what I'm talking about can see what I mean in better detail and tell just me what kind of bolts they are and if they are safe to put on your ball-joint and tie-rod ends. Thanks everyone in advance.

      ***** I'm currently going through replacing all of the parts you have listed here on my 00 Jetta, so far I've done everything except the control arms. I noticed the same torx head opening, but I never needed it. The ball joint nut removed with just a ratchet and some hammering on the rotor assembly to knock it loose.
      However, the outer tie-rods will spin when you try to tighten the nut. I had to use a giant pair of grip-locks to squeeze the tie rod into the rotor assembly while I tightened it. As far as the locking nuts go, I had the same nuts you described and so far have had no troubles. I replaced the tie-rods 6 months ago, and I check them on a regular basis to make sure they are staying tight. I chalk the lack of cotter pins and locking nuts up to the superior German Engineering ;)

    Me and my pops started this today, and we found out that one of the bolts holding the front bushings in wont come out? Any ideas?

      What do you mean by won't come out? Is it turning?

      Its turning but it wont come out of the front bushing itself as if it were stripped or something.

      BMAC VAGS Hi there, I've replaced the control arms on my 00 VW Golf. and the bolts holding the front end of the wishbone on each side is freely spinning and wont tighten down.. I thought I might be missing a nut on the other end, but there isnt a nut for the front end wishbone bushing bolt. I believe this bolt is threaded into the "frame". Is there a chance that the bolt is stripped? If so, how to fix, as the bolt threads thru the bushing and into the frame.. Any info is much appreciated.

    Why not show as removing whole wishbone with the ball joint?
