The placement of the shock on the clamp at the bottom is super important. this video doesn't really show it but there is a thin metal guide that goes into the slot and that has an opening for the bolt. I did it wrong and put it above the bolt. So it bent and went through and destroyed the boot below it. My fix when repairing it was to just put the (new) strut and the clamp together on a bench and then put the assembly in the car already together. Saves a lot of hammering even though it's more weight to put the strut in. I used the jack so that wasn't really hard to do.
Could probably be done without removing disc and hub. If the front of the car is on axle stands and wheel(s) are off, the struts with springs will be extended to their maximum. By placing a jack under the lower arm near to the disc and taking it up a few inches, that will compress the spring and thus making the leg shorter. With a couple of coil spring clamp bars, extended to the maximum and attached opposite sides of the spring then tightened up a bit more, will keep the leg at that length. Then you can remove the jack and knock the hub downwards. It should come off quite easily, but a good soaking with WD-40 prior to starting is recommended. If you grip the central shaft with a pair of mole grips, it will be a good idea to wrap a thick bit of cloth around the shaft first, to prevent any damage. But there's usually a splined or hexagon bit at the top which is provided for the purpose of undoing or doing-up the nuts. Forgot to mention: when fitting new strut, you can shorten it by extending spring clamps fully, then screw them up on opposite sides of the spring then remove once strut is fitted.
Excellent video. Thank you. Camera is nicely focused on what is being done. Not clear if ant body parts from top need removal to access top of old shocker before removing old strut. Showing that detail would make it even more clear. But a great video.
How dos vice grips hold the strut still for you I have tried it in 10 different place to hold it still and take off the top nut and and all it does is spine in the grips or kick the grips off the strut

+@fintonking7525 We appreciate the feedback. Sometimes there are multiple ways to accomplish the same repair. 1aau.to/m/Shop-TRQ

But a great video.
Very informative.Thanks
Good job bud.
If it were on Jack stands with only the front end up, should the parking break be on or off? With the rear wheels chaulked?

got some monroe struts the top rod keeps turning as i am tightening the shock at the top cant get 40lbs
I would think you would have to get the vehicle aligned is that correct?
+Victor Garcia Yes, an alignment would need to be done after installation.
I thought my mechanic was ripping me off... nope, this is just a super complex procedure 😂
How do ya get the WIPERS off to get at the TOP of the shock?
Took the 13mm nuts off but they wont pry up? Maybe they rusty. Thx.
