I personally see both side of Gemini running most of the time when I am at the park. Sometimes it goes down to one side but usually it’s only for a couple of hours. It does not open on certain days during halloweekends. It’s a people eater so it needs replaced with a people eater. I could see corkscrew being removed first to make way for the outdoor stage being moved over there by the skyride and a new vertical launch coaster or a copperhead strike type of coaster (one that goes over the maintenance shops, the new stage area, and the midway by TopThrill2) in that plot of land!

Corkscrew, as bad and rough a ride as it is, is too iconic to remove. It's been a central part of CP's promotional shots for decades.
Gemini is a classic. It might make more sense to keep it, than to raze it.
I think Iron Dragon makes the most sense to replace, first.

Cp ride op that has worked in gemini here. Gemini is not going to be scrapped unless something major happens to the ride. It’s extremely reliable for the age it has, cheap to maintain and operate, has brutal capacity and it’s on the tamer side out of all the coasters cp has, and there’s not that many of them that fulfill this category. Also, the “It only operates one side the majority of time” is not true at all. During the first hour of opening and last hours of operation the ride will close one side due to lack of riders, and at the beginning and end of the season it will run only with one train frequently due to this lack of ridership, so they can send half of the crew home cause the rides operates like two completely independent rides. Think about it, it runs with two trains on each track, 30 people per train, with a minimum REAL dispatch interval of around 80 seconds (could be less but that’s the perfect interval to get trains coming into the station at a regular pace). Doing some simple math here this ride has a 2700 people per hour real capacity which is absolutely bonkers (Maverick for example, another ride i worked at, would make at most 70 dispatches per hour for a real capacity of 840 people per hour). This means Gemini only running one side duplicates the capacity of maverick when it’s not dispatching trains as regularly, which makes you understand why they tend to close one side (hell, they could keep it closed all day and the line wouldn’t get much longer, but the racing is the main reason both sides are open).
One side of this coaster, if needed, can be operated with only 4 RIDE OPERATORS (One at the entrance and for fast lane, two for checking seats and one in controls, that’s it). This makes it one of the cheapest rides in the park to operate. It almost never has a extended period of downtime, the racing aspect is something completely unique in the park, and it’s an arrow coaster, some of the most reliable coaster manufacturers in the market along with B&M. Its a people eater, a great first big scale ride for kids to experience, has a relatively low requirement, and a really fun gimmick that is the racing on top of how cheap it is for cp to maintain it. I don’t have insights of cp, but when you work the ride and get to know how it runs, you end up knowing Gemini will not leave unless a major fire destroys its structure or some catastrophic event like that.

I think that a Mack extreme spinner, Gerstlauer (maybe one with a launch that will come close to matching Dragster's), or an RMC raptor would work wonders for this park. But I just can't get over imagining a Gravity Group woodie in this plot of land. I've ridden Leviathan at Sea World Australia, and it is really a cure for our coaster envy down under! It has just the right amount of roughness, amazing pacing, and lots of airtime! Cedar Point could even market an upcharge backwards row like what the Australian parks are doing, and they could once again take the title of best coaster in the park from Steel Vengeance. But I gotta think...your idea and layout of the RMC Trex is something else, and would be THE BEST coaster if built without OTSRs.

I think all the older Coasters mentioned here need to make it to their 50th then get retired. If gemini is replaced it needs to be a dualing coaster. I really like the idea of the European park doing the Extreme and Family dualing Raptors. That would be a great concept. They cant get rid of the racing/ dualing concept. Corkscrew can go. Be replaced with a new intense looper by Mack, Vekoma, or Zamperla. Id like Iron dragon to stick around, if not, a great custom family invert or Flying coaster would be perfect to stick with dragon theme. Blue Streak needs to be retracked just like Racer.
I REALLY like the idea of dropping kiddie kingdom. I think a new Cyclone wooden coaster would be perfect for the Boardwalk. Anything can replace CC Mine Ride. A modern family coaster like Big Bear would be perfect going over water onto Millenium Island. That is a surprisingly HUGE plot of land!

Also, if CP is going to put in a Camp Snoopy expansion, they're going to build it on the island. Just add a ramp bridge that provides clearance for the SRE boats, and they can reuse the infrastructure from Dinos Alive / Forbidden Frontier. That said, when it's time to replace Gemini, CP should add something unique to the back of the park that's also a decent people-eater. It'd be extremely hard to top a modern Vekoma flyer here - *F.L.Y.* is designed to cycle 1400 riders / hour.

That's what they were doing at St. Louis last year, the board operator was checking restraints and the op on the other side of the train was responsible for height checks, a third on the platform to dispatch from the rear, and that's it. Oh, there was a fourth on Batman as a greeter to remind you to go pay for a locker.

Brandon, could you do a video series where maybe you break down each chain and give each park in the chain a coaster type they actually need. You could probably keep Six Flag and Cedar Fair Seperate for this video.
Personally, i think what Cedar Point needs in either a new Gen wooden Coaster or North America Inversion record breaker machine. I just don't see a 500-foot coaster until maybe 2030 plus. And include which ride manufacturer you think could work. S&S might get a better version of Steel Curtain.
King's Island and/or Carowinds, possibly a 5 Axis Coaster from S&S or an entreme Spinner from Mack Rides? Neither park as a wing Coaster and King's Island has 2 around them, Thunder Bird at Holiday World and Gatekeeper at the Point.

I think cedar point can go for the inversion record in the kiddy kingdom plot and put in an infinity coaster. Then I think with that new plot of land by perimeter road, they might be able to fit in a modern GCI twister layout or an extreme spinner. For gemeni I also think an extreme spinner could go there if they decide to put the wooden coaster on the other plot. Another thing they could do with Gemini is have GCI “re track” it and keep the original layout (somewhat) and add some new fun elements while keeping it somewhat of a family coaster.

Here is some additional info about Gemini's closing on certain days during Halloweekends. It is closed on Thursdays during Halloweekends. Part of the reason for this is crowd levels on Thursdays are very low. Most rides are a walk on. Gemini is usually very busy when it is open. I have seen 1 hour waits when both sides are running (four train operations) and then walk a few minutes to Magnum XL-200 to see that Magnum has a 10 minute wait with two trains running. I do not think Gemini is going anywhere.

  • @brianfoss571
    @brianfoss571 7 месяцев назад +1

I don't think Gemini is anywhere near CP's top priority for removal. It's still useful as a people-eater on the busiest summer days, and it helps ease younger riders into the park's big thrills. (It definitely does that much better than Cedar Creek Mine Ride, which should absolutely be removed before 2030!). That said, to pave the way for CCMR closing, CP should add a launched Vekoma or B&M family coaster. I'd expect that to go into the former dorm plot by the *marina* and use jet-ski-themed trains. There just isn't that much space on the Kiddie Kingdom site - if CP were to remove most of those rides, a *Wild Moose* might be the best fit there. I also expect Corkscrew to close before Gemini does to help manage TT2's crowds. If Vekoma can build a *beyond-vertical tilt* coaster there (maintaining the iconic double corkscrew), it'd meet or even exceed TT2's hype with the GP.

I don't know if this is yet another situation of a project that was derailed due to the pandemic. But the model looked solid. I thought at the time that this would be the ideal replacement for Gemini and I still do. The park really ought to have another woodie and something big, fast, modern and twisted and having the added capacity of a dueling coaster would be perfect for Cedar Point.
I know some people are skeptical that it'll look like it's the same thing as Gemini and fail to draw attention. But just look at the model that was presented and you'll realize it would turn heads.

Epic Universe will have Starfall Racers. So the racing coaster isn't dead yet. In the meantime, I would like to see Rougarou and Iron Dragon replaced, perhaps building something family friendly, but not kiddie, a la Hagrid's at Islands of Adventure. But keep Gemini!

Gemini is a great ride when both sides are running. Still smooth. Still fun. 😊There’s usually a line when I’m there.
Mine ride and corkscrew never have a line and both are rough.

Gemini, CCMR, Corkscrew, and Iron Dragon are all good entry-level coasters even if outdated and in need of updating although Gemini (and Magnum) have really gotten rough with age. What about an RMC treatment of Gemini but without the intensity of Steel Vengeance, SteVe Junior?

You can have racing coasters going forward. A ride like west coast racers works in terms of a racing coaster going forward. I hope get don’t remove it but if they do my choice would be an Eejanaika clone/type ride.

Gemini could always get RMC'd, but the park already has one really big RMC, and Gemini is one of the "easy-big" coasters to get kids and newbies used to coasters, so idk

Yes! Let's build another record-breaking prototype roller coaster! We haven't had _any problems_ in the past with them! Cedar Point would be made more pleasant by an average-sized, thrilling wooden roller coaster. A Gravity Group ride along the lines of the awesome Boardwalk Bullet (an easy top-five wood coaster that takes up only one acre). GCI would be fine, too, I just prefer Gravity Group, especially their powerful "family" wood coasters like Wooden Warrior & Roar-O-Saurus. Speaking of which, one of those would be a great addition to the Camp Snoopy expansion proposed in this video. So, _two_ new wood coasters at Cedar Point! A large & small version, side-by-side! A near-copy of the famous Cedar Point Cyclone would also be a good tribute to the history of this park.

Honestly they should relocate kiddie kingdom to Millennium island. There is a little snoopy area in that direction.Tear down mine ride and build a big bear mountain or some other vekoma boomerang in the area along with a walkway connecting Millennium force area to the Gemini area w/o walking all the way around. Nothing would be better than having the t-rex/raptor where Gemini stands, the only other idea would be the B&M giga, you know the other 2 times it was mentioned maybe the 3rd is the charm.CP needs to condense the kiddie area for sure,as it is now we have the big one in the front and the lil snoopy area by snake river expedition..

Hey on a random note. Lost Island Themepark posted a teaser coming soon video about a potential new attraction for 2024. From the video people have spotted a RMC Moose blueprint in the video. So idk if you want to look into it further but Lost Island Themepark in Iowa could be getting Americas first RMC Moose Coaster which would be crazy if they build the first one.

@@TP_Recommendations yeah it might give you a nice potential video if they do actually build a RMC Moose in 2024. Lost Island is in a nice location for a ride maker to potentially showcase new smaller rides. I wonder if RMC gave them a discount on the ride as nobody seems to be buying the RMC Moose model yet.

They just reworked CCMR track so I'm hoping for something similar with gemini soon. It was running really smooth last year.
I got a shirt for Christmas, so excited to get to some parks and spreading positivity in 2024!
Id love to see premier modify and lengthen corkscrew, retrack without reprofiling magnum, etc. but honestly, i know that some things deserve preservation whereas others deserve to be replaced and retired with dignity. I really hope the concept of the corkscrew path interaction is reused in the replacement ride. It wouldnt be like CP to leave the track from the old ride as decoration. I can see 2026 as a timeframe for the ending of corkscrew. Just a few thoughts i wanted to throw out there

Why not just have them do something like they did with Twisted Colossus at SFMM and make it 1 station 3 trains and call it Gemini's Revenge? I think that'll be even better than getting rid of it all together. Like if you agree.

an rmc t-rex would be incredible, its an idea thats being doing the rounds for years now. An extreme spinner or a infinity coaster would be winners too, Cedar point doesnt have any seriously beyond vertical drops in its line up and these all can provide that.

I feel like there's a market for a company like Vekoma or Mack or even S&S to go in and retrack these great old Arrow coasters to give them new life again. This is something that I would LOVE to see them do to Gemini. Its going to be a hard sell to get an amusement park to get rid of a capacity monster like a dueling coaster, too.
