I'm not surprised so many are rendered confused & speechless: Ren is, as you say, an artist, and, yes, this is his masterpiece, but he also happens to be a consumate musician, actor, performer, producer, engineer, composer, poet, purveyor of Truth bombs, empath, singer, rapper, hip hop savant, master of communication, theatre & literature lover, cinema buff, all round good bloke; & ill, as well as sick

Ren contracted Lyme Disease when he was 19. When he went to NHS, they never tested him for anything beyond the most basic of illnesses...so they told him it was all in his head, and hit him with heavy psyche meds...and for ten years, the Lyme Disease went untreated, as they pumped him full of meds that had severe side effects. He finally got to real doctors in Belgium (IIRC), and it was they who identified what was actually wrong. Ren is currently getting specialized help in Canada, trying to get everything back under control.....You should check out "Sick Boi" next, because that explains more -- Ren has a really amazing catalog, aside from this....

This cost £1000 to make. Samuel Perry-Falvey filmed it. The wheelchair they found on his Hunger video. The lampshades used in The Big Push song - Englishman In New York cover.
Rens friends The Big Push are a busking band and also very talented.
You need to listen to his songs about 3 times lol. He sucks you in and wanting more. He was bitten by a Tick at 16 and misdiagnosed for 8 years. Wrong drugs really messed him up. All the time music kept him going though. Now in Canada getting treatment he posts on Twitch how he's doing. CNN just screwed up using a Hi Ren clip 😄🤦‍♂️ everyone jumped at his defence and they pulled the clip.
Also Chinchilla is Rens friend and just an awesome singer. She's just released a new song Little Girl Gone. Ren and Chinchilla together are sooo good!! Chalk Outlines and How to be me, you will love

Where? : Ren was born in Bangor, North Wales. He studied music in Bath University then settled in Brighton.
How? : I've no idea. The guy is insanely talented. You've only just scratched the surface.
What? : Pretty much everything. He sings, raps, plays guitar, bass, piano and a whole lot more as well as producing his own beats. Between his solo work and music with the band The Big Push and numerous collaborations he covers a huge array of different styles.
Why? : I'm not sure but it feels like the world needs artists like Ren right now.

Here is some additional information on Ren's story that I gathered from old newspaper interviews, articles, and Ren's livestreams and posts where he discussed his condition. Ren Erin Gill is a British musician/independent artist; born in Wales on March 29, 1990; he eventually moved to Brighton. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, Ren began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue and subsequently dropped by Sony.
Ren's illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours daily. Ren was initially misdiagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome, which led him to experience psychosis and develop PTSD. It would take seven years before a doctor in Belgium finally correctly diagnosed Ren with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and resulting damage to the brain, organs, joints, and PTSD. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure.
Ren is currently in Calgary, Canada for more treatments, including surgeries, and will have to be there for at least six months (Summer of 2023) undergoing IV and other interventions five days a week. Ren recently underwent wisdom tooth removal and cavitation surgery. In addition, his Canadian doctor discovered that Ren also developed a condition called Mast Cell Activation Disorder (MCAD), which has affected the myelin sheath in his brain, his thyroid, adrenals as well as his bones/joints. Now, Ren is receiving additional treatments for this previously undiagnosed condition.
Let's keep supporting Ren as he undergoes his treatments. Check out and subscribe to his channel, if you are a content creator, ask your audience to subscribe to Ren. Listen to some of his earlier work, like and comment on his performances, and let's lift Ren's spirits. If you are a believer, pray for him. Ren is an artist with something to say to the world, and his work is important in these troubling times. Someone has finally created a Wikipedia page for Ren, so there is additional information available.
Here is the link to Ren’s GoFundMe page to raise money for his current treatment. Ren has exceeded his initial goal. However, his goal was very conservative and did not reflect the added costs of unforeseen surgical procedures, and treatment for additional health issues such as MCAD. www.gofundme.com/f/ren-get-better-from-lyme-disease-and-autoimmunity

I realize this comment is after a full month. I hope you see it. After this masterpiece of art, you said something profound. You said, "Normally I can speak after a reaction. Normally I can say what happened during that reaction. Normally I can express my feelings of that reaction. But... this one, I really don't think I can do that." Trust me young lady, you absolutely DID do ALL those things... You did them DURING the reaction. Your honest, open, sincere facial expressions, exclamations, and your overall outpouring of empathy and your depth of feelings were obvious to us (your viewers). Plain as day. No question. Wonderful reaction!!

Welcome to the other side. Ren is amazing. You will spend the next couple of months reacting to Ren's rabbit hole, which is as surprising and amazing as you can imagine. there may be 1 or 2 that aren't your favorites but his full library will stun your soul. He is the king of goose bumps.
The Ren family will fill you in on his story I'm sure. And we will all be watching your reactions with any others that get posted. Because we all love watching others experience what we did our first times with each song of his. I'm 52 from the US and I have never experienced any other artists so potent.
And on top of it all, Ren for now is so humble. But continue you on your Ren Journey, I listen to about 1 new track a day of his. Then immediately look at others reacting to the same song. Mind blown just about ever damn time. Get on his channel and jump into whatever seams to speak to you in the moment. Most of the LIVE versions are better than the recorded versions. But all our great. So welcome aboard and buckle up... You're in for one hell of a ride!

This is the kind of artistry that gives "broken" people hope. Ren, through this performance piece, has become to a lot of people exactly what he stated in the song, "...the voice that you hear when you loosen the noose on the rope". So powerful, so impactful. The song structure itself is incredible. It starts off as a battle between his positive (Angel) and negative (Demon) aspects, the negative then makes an overpowering last ditch effort to reign supreme, tearing free and trying to take control, but ultimately fails as the final act, being the "God" aspect, emerges Triumphant, though still acknowledging and accepting that it will ALWAYS be a battle because we are all "a coin with 2 different sides". It's a beautifully cathartic and raw musical masterpiece. Ren is truly special. Welcome to the Ren rabbit-hole, it's a trip worth taking. This was the 4th take he did and yes, it was done live. Wait until you hear some of his other stuff, especially his storytelling ("The Tale of Jenny & Screech"). You haven't even touched the breadth of this young man's talent yet.
The pig character (imo) represents the doctors and therapist who have essentially butchered him for years through their misdiagnosis. It's the system that focuses on peddling more pills than on genuinely trying to help to fix broken/ill people, caring more about profit than individual health. The bastardization of the hippocratic oath. He literally thought he was going insane because he was told repeatedly that the pain and symptoms he was experiencing were all in his head (psychosomatic). He had reached a point where he literally resigned himself to dying before he reached 30. Turns out he had Lyme's disease the whole time and it ran rampant through his system for 10 years, even to the point of causing brain damage. Ironically, if Ren hadn't gone through what he has, would he have ever made the art he has? There's no question that his suffering has shaped his music and now he's finally getting the recognition he undoubtedly deserves. I've said it before, I'll say it again, Ren is special.

Ren was misdiagnosed a decade ago by doctors. He actually had Lime Disease but they thought his mind was playing tricks and gave him strong drugs psychotropics and told him he was crazy. The Lyme disease ran amuck for 7-8 years. He is currently in Canada receiving treatment to undo all the damage done. his life was dramatically shortened by the misdiagnosis but he is doing his best to stay in shape and recover all the stolen years past & future.

She does amazing powerful duets with Ren in Chalk Outlines and How to be me. She has just dropped a new song Little Girl Gone that is just blowing up! Her song Fingers (live version) is amazing too. Both Ren and Chinchilla are best in their live versions. You can feel their emotional connection. They dont just sing, they emote and perform. They are Brilliant! Ren has so many genres he does so well, incredible singer, rap, master guitar, story teller, busking, acting. He does it all and produces it himself with his amazing and talented videographer Samuel Perry. He has a large catalog of songs so get ready . He will help grow your channel as you listen to him.

TommyBee Me, saw this yesterday 30/04/2023 and I have watched this repeatedly, and your reaction is the second one I have watched. The reaction is universally, astonishment, acknowledgement and disbelief. It is shocking, mind provoking and utterly BRILLIANT! Ren has created one of the greatest musical poems, which in my humble opinion is right up there with Queens 'Bohemian Rhapsody and 'Bat out of Hell' by Jim Steinman & Meat Loaf. Hi-Ren speaks to the masses and evokes incredible, powerful upwelling of emotions such as empathy, sadness and compassion. It is naked and utterly exposed. Powerful, and an act of pure honesty, that's one of the bravest things I have ever seen and heard. The fact that it has had 45 million views and counting in such a minuscule amount of time gives me such joy and proof we are waking up!

Welcome to the RENaissance, a home for the lost and broken; enjoy the ride
If you want to dive more into the rap side of his catalogue, I'd start with "What You Want" which is a brilliant homage to the Beasties, followed with "Genesis" followed by "Sick Boy" followed by "Illest of Our Time" (this one goes after the previous one so you have some grasp of the meaning) and the trail goes from there
For more ... Rock(?) fare... Follow the breadcrumbs to The Big Push ... and dive in (I personally suggest Sweet Little Lady, Swan Song, Englishman in New York, and the cherry on top ... I Shot The Sherriff/Road to Zion/Hip Hop)
Last but not least, don't be afraid to check down the alleys, Ren has built himself a circle of talented musician friends that will surprise you and make you glad you chose to look for hidden treasure.

I never comment on anything on youtube (obviously) but you were the first reaction to this video who truly seemed to get the gravity of what Ren put into music. I've seen so many musical analyses of this song which were great, even if lacking some of the finer points. I've seen so many music industry brains talk about the song but the focus always seems to be on his two sides to writing a song, not the constructive and destructive parts of the brain. If this was the first time you've watched this video, I truly commend you because during all your pauses you took in 'other Ren' like no misinterpreted therapist reaction. When he talks as 'angry ren' about being there from the dawn of existence, it seems pretty clear it's all Ren in a self struggle. I applaud your reaction to the video. I cried the first time I heard this song, and have probably watched it 100 times since, never without a tear. It's just THAT powerful. I wish more people could see into it like you seem to.
Sorry, long random rant, but I kept searching, on a mission tonight, to find one reaction that seemed to really get it. I hope you've cried over the song many times because it is just that powerful and poetically written. I wish more people could see what (if I'm not far wrong) it really means. This is true advocation for the conflicts in the brain, since the 'dawn of existence'.
Over a month later and here I've listened to it again 10 times tonight via reaction videos. Thanks for yours!

He does everything perfectly from singing heartbreaking ballads like "How to be me" and "Chalk outlines" to fun, upbeat rap (eg "what you want," "the hunger," "Losing it," "Illest of our time" , "Humble etc) to shining a spotlight on personal, heavy subjects (eg "Dominoes," "Insomnia," "depression etc"). Lovely reaction! Hope you continue to explore the wonderful rabbit hole that is the music of Ren. Don't expect him to fit any genre of music because he does not. He is his own genre and all of them 🙂

A great, honest and soulful reaction to this masterpiece performance - Ren has many more in his back catalogue and in the pipeline ... and every tune is authentic, different and a banger (!) ... Enjoy the Renegade Renaissance as you explore the creativity of this extraordinary Welsh Bard; (also check out Ren's band The Big Push). 😀

Thank you for that! Your honest and genuine reaction was utterly beautiful. The first time I heard this I was just blown away- I just sat there all wet with tears and laughing and trying not to sob and mostly just torn with so many feelings -I was dumbfounded. I have to admit that watching your eyes as you experienced it had me falling in love with you a bit. Quite a bit. Thank you!

Ren left Brighton for Canada to get specialized treatment to address the damage done by the misdiagnosis/untreated Lyme disease and prevent further damage from his autoimmune disease. He was initially planning on a 3 month stay in Canada and started a GoFundMe to help cover the costs but it's been extended to at least a 6 month stay after they found more damage than expected. Even though the initial GoFundMe goal was met, I would still suggest donating (and buying his music). He's an independent artist.
He has three live-recorded videos that form what I would call a Shakespearian tragedy (you might cry) and Ren's a modern minstrel/bard. For a reaction, I suggest you do the video with all three combined (including Violet's Tale) "The Tale of Jenny and Screech (Full)" rather than one at a time. You haven't seen anything like it. "Hi Ren" was also recorded live in case you didn't notice the microphone on his collar and all the wires strapped to his back.
He has some great rap/hip-hop songs if that's more your cup of tea. He was/is in a band called "The Big Push" and also did a lot of busking in Brighton with that band and with friends if you want to hear more of his singing and guitar.

I don't think he believes he is possessed by a demon. I think he is reflecting that the higher one raises to get control of one's life, the higher the antics of that internal negative voice. When he says he will transcend wit his music, the internal voice tries to make him believe it's even more than that, Lucifer manipulating his thought. That's why I like when he stands up to that voice, he doesn't say he is an angel, or the second coming, he says he has faced him before and he is hope, reducing that internal voice to just despair.
Among the amazing things I have noticed when he changes roles in the middle of the song, when each voice curses sounds very different. When Ren1 say "f**king dumb boy" sounds angry, but when Ren2 responds "F**k you!" sounds hurt, like that internal voice is really getting to his nerves and making him feel pain. He is above amazing.

LOVE this reaction. You get it. Is it terrible? Is it shallow? Is it strange that when people don’t GET this beautiful, vulnerable, amazing piece of art that I kinda shut down on them? I’ve told friends of mine to watch this and NONE of them were BLOWN AWAY IMPRESSED. My heart doesn’t want to forgive them 😆 But my brain does. I feel more connected, in the 9 minutes of this video, to the reactors that GET IT thanks to others in my life. Weird
