This man brought me back to humanity. I have literally felt that noose around my neck, I have literally been locked up in the nut house... and this bro put it all in perspective. I have looked up at Michaelangelo's works in the Vatican, I have looked upon Mona Lisa in The Louvre... and this is truly just as relevant in the world of true art. Life changing...thank you Ren. X
this is a poem this is a song this is art this is philosophy this is a therapy session this is a sermon this is powerful and honest and raw and touching and hopefully healing for a lot of people who hear it.
I love how the first thought so many people have.. oh he's schizophrenic, I understand this!!! And a minute later no, no he's not schizophrenic, he's me.
Ren has captivated my attention for the last 3 weeks and led me to so many great reactions of his work. His music catalog is an endless sea of profound and meaningful songs. - Jenny's tale (trilogy) is possibly the most heart wrenching work of art and story telling I have ever seen from a musician - His work with Chinchilla has some of the most beautiful harmonies I've ever heard - His rap game is legit, fun, and lyrically powerful - His live street performances with his old band The Big Push and Sam Thompkins are a true testament of his musical versatility. He's a transcendent figure of all music genres and masters them all.
Feel this exact way ... I show Ren to anyone willing to sit long enough to get that same captivation I have his message is beautiful. Unrivaled creatively unmatched in musical talent Ren hits literally all genres leaving little room or need for any other musicians
Ren and the reaction videos featuring him are my favorite coping mechanism. Maybe it's just mirror neurons doing their thing, but watching people go from listening to him to actually hearing him, going from head to heart, and then following him through his darkness and back into the light... it's just beautiful. Thank you for sharing your experience
I've watched a ton of people's reactions to HI Ren for week's now. It's amazing how so many different styles of music reactors have all been blown away by this masterpiece from Ren. Great reaction!! 👍
This song and the talk at the end were realy therapeutic for me. I went through therapy for depression and i am quite stable for years, but it helped me to get an additional perspective on my thoughts and helped me to be even more aware of my feelings. So the lows are not as low anymore. And if they are, i put on the song and kickstart hope again.
The fact that this is basically a live take (with at least one edit, maybe more) is crazy to me. I still have a hard time accepting that he's doing that back and forth in the first verse live for that microphone on his collar. Changing his voice, persona, and posture - as well as the guitar chords under each character's lines - is so impressive. I've spent a lot of time with tears on my cheeks taking this song in, but right now I'm just in awe of the performative skill on display. A true work of art, by a true artist, in every way possible.
A beautiful smile at Ren's ooo ooo oo's, and an immediate acknowledgement that you'll need multiple listens to pick up on everything Ren is doing here. I'll subscribe just for that. I usually wait until the end of the song to decide, but you got me in the first verse.
This one is strong... she gets it all - very smart. She can't stop dancing. She has that natural resting smiley face. I wonder if her friends know what a gem they have in her. :-)
I feel you may have missed some of the symbolism in how the song is structured overall. In the beginning, a calm, medicated, coping skills, art therapy Ren is working on a new bit of music that may be about to be doing something... the first 'clean' Diva Dance is a representation, but while he is working his alternative voices, more cynical, intellectual, "clever", critical and chaotic slip past his 'burial' coping mechanisms and can say "Hi Ren". As instructed by his therapist Ren rejects these other "negative" aspects, at first calmly and then as they resist - more forcefully, reaching to anger and frustration and a bright white hot fury, which 'casts the deeper shadow' and undermines the strength of the compliant nature, and the chaotic side gets to take over and play for a bit... which it does by drawing on imagery of myth and legend, and a seriously grungy guitar. The calm Ren come through on the other side, contemplative and tries a new approach, not suppressive and distancing, but hopeful and accommodating - it rises in exaltation and offers a hand of cooperation "A coin with two different sides", before completing his musical project with the finished "Diva Dance", which incorporates the chaotic guitar and lighting with the uplifting positive vocal and the standing, hopeful Ren, complete and made from all his parts acting together. This is how he describes his life journey in the epilogue and is perhaps more helpful as chaotic and compliant, rather than 'good and evil' because this more suitably describes the behaviour each shows and doesn't carry the labelling baggage and value judgement of the more common labels given to it. I contend that either or both of the 'separate' aspects are disordered thinking, and that he is only whole and fully allowed to be human when he embraces and gives space to each to dance as part of him, to bring their own strengths which can help with the weakness of the other parts, instead of trying to "win" some numinous fight which can't even really be defined, let alone completed. His final diagnosis and treatment for the Lyme disease that went improperly managed for the worst part of a decade would have come about because his intellectual, critical, cynical, chaotic aspect challenged the accepted view of his condition as a trauma response and purely mental illnesses, and forced the compliant self and the doctors to check and re-check. With a 'win' a compliant Ren would just have gone along with the treatments they proposed until the bacteria wore his body down completely. Some mental distress needs to be moderated, balanced, but not eliminated, or suppressed.
@@vacayooper4728 I doubt that. In psychology/therapy you use whatever works for the patient. Religious beliefs are a powerful motivator and tool in recovery.
The genius and beauty of Ren's performance is that it is IMPOSSIBLE to know what to expect. It's a visceral, mind-boggling punch right in the head, heart, and soul 🤯 💔 ending with a powerful, resonating, and enduring message of inspiration and hope ❤️🔥 🙏 ❤️🩹 Mad respect!
This is a great depiction of my bipolar experience. I remember telling people there was another voice and I was terrified it was getting so loud and my voice was getting overpowered it was taking over. That's when I would engage in self harm behaviors to try to get silence. After years of work, I no longer have the thoughts. It's reduced to physiological symptoms only which is SO much better, but can still be debilitating. That was the gift of therapy. I am forever grateful to the therapists that worked with me, even though it SUCKED in the moment. It was worth it. I cry every time I listen to this song. I don't think people understand how traumatic the experience itself is.
Relatable to almost everyone 😞 This is art of transcendent beauty and an *important* song. Artists often struggle with imposter syndrome. There’s a movie starring Olivia Munn called “Violet” that rings of this and was a transformative experience for me… just as this song also resonates. As a person who’s never been able to escape imposter syndrome and negative self-talk, *realizing* that I can exert the strength that destructive voice questions-strength that I *know* I have-was sooo important. It takes time to push past the negativity-to make your own voice stronger, but if anyone out there is struggling with this, please please please *know* that you can do it. *Know* that I believe in you… but you don’t need me to-just like you don’t need the shroud of doubt that feels first of protection and then as a prison. You are *stronger* than that voice. You are stronger than you can *possibly* know… until you push back with softness or aggression-your choice.
Loved this reaction and to hear your perspective, I am subscribing and hope you do more of Ren's newer stuff. He needs our support and all of his art is amazing 🙏
A lot of things has been done before, but every new iteration or version of something has value because we all interpret things differently and relate differently. To me this is the Perfect amalgamation and manifestation of the primordial struggle between our dark and bright sides of the human psyche. The fact that he ends the musical part of this piece unresolved is so perfect because there is no winners or loosers as he says at the end.
His use of minor chords/notes and dissonance is awesome. Perfectly puts the listener in an anxious place, which makes them more attentive and receptive to the message.
Basically, he was bitten by a tick and contracted Lyme disease which was wrongly diagnosed as a psychological condition. Which meant that he was wrongly prescribed psychotropic drugs which caused psychosis and it took somewhere like 7 years before his actual disease was properly diagnosed and started being treated properly.
Hi Gursaiv so nice to see you reacting to Ren. I am a poet, this guy though. I was also in drama club yrs ago, this guy though. WOW. Hope you are well. More Ren please. "Chalk outline" is a must, you have to react to that one. Amazing.
I also believe that his suffering from an illness allows him to also make his poetry and lyricism to give that much more of a punch then say a singer who has never spent say many years with their body crashing and you have no idea what in the world is happening. That kind of experience lends some real credibility to his music not only because you believe him but he has lived it. His pain is our happiness which is kind of messed up in a way. I have 4 immune disorders and every day I wonder how the hell am I going to do this and as he said its an eternal dance but honestly most of the time I can't even find my shoes.
Late to the party ? makes no difference when you bring one of the best reactions. Good luck down the rabbit hole. Ya have a few thousand new friends coming for support
Cumbrian here. Love hearing the various northern accents especially when they appreciate intelligent, thoughtful epic music. Try Chalk Outlines next. I think you will love it
I daresay most men don’t learn to relax and soften until well into their 40s and 50s. He’s gone through the fire and learned his lessons so young, but he has earned the wisdom of people his parents’ age.
I just discovered Ren, and I'm obsessed. I've watched scores of reaction videos now, and you're the first I've seen to really get into the music of this work. You definitely have some great insights into the words, the meaning, the lesson, but what really stood out to me was your sheer joy in the music, and I loved watching it. :)
You are one of few saying that this is very much dealing with actual psychosis. Not about burying the voices, but coming to know them, finding ways to escape domination. For sure it has a meaning for all of us dealing with internal 'voices' that undemine us. But this touches on a situation where someone is being driven to suicide. It's opened up a lot of dialogue, this performance. Interesting to know what voice hearers will say.
Every single 10th grade class should take one day's lesson to play this video and then discuss. Not many things they could study would have the impact on these kids future lives than this. The sooner they learn to relax and soften, the better.
He has Lyme disease. He’s made videos of his day and what it takes medically for him to survive. I don’t think I have what it would take to survive if I had what he has. It’s insane. Like twenty pills a day and going in the hospital daily for treatment
Great reaction!! The tale of Jenny and Screetch is a captivating story, divided in the following of 3 diffrent charecters, in 3 songs, all connected, i highly suggest you do that one next, a work of art from Ren .. and you have to do all 3 in one, as its all connected..
I must've seen this song 100 times by now, factoring in all the reaction videos I've seen. Just realised that the setting could be a representation of Ren's mind, or his brain (he has some brain damage as a result of misdiagnosed Lymes Disease). Also wanted to point out that artists who have no capacity for self-criticism or self-doubt find it difficult to grow creatively because they can't imagine being better as they are already a genius in their own eyes. Ren grows from what Bad Ren tells him, and in turn Bad Ren would have nothing to talk about if Ren actually gave up, so it's like he says, "You've gotta kill you if you wanna kill me' and also right at the end 'We're a coin with two different sides', so both personalities are aware they need each other. They're like an old married couple that fight all the time but can't get divorced because it's only the fighting that keeps them alive.
Turns out, you don’t win a fight against yourself because you are yourself, the self doubt and the hope is all you. Soften, loosen up and flow with the ups and downs of life because we don’t have much control over them.
Fantastic reaction. You nailed it all the way through. It’s also great to have another reaction from the UK. I was going to wish you luck with your course, but I think you’ll breeze it. Subbed.
Interesting reaction. We can all relate in different levels to this amazing song. There is a depth that portrays Psychosis which is difficult to understand for anyone who’s not experienced it, but liberating for someone who has. If you’re a Psych student then I think it’s a great study piece as is some of RENs other work. What you got there was a patients perspective. The dark and the light. The good and the evil.
Looking at this from a Carl Jung point of view I see this as his ego having a conversation with his shadow and at the end he combines the best qualities of both to be a better human being?🌿💔
I loved your energy and thoughtful reaction. you're insightful beyond your years. Ren is a very special talent and needs our support at this time in his fight to regain some quality of life as regards his health issues. Nice one.
Good on you for doing this reaction. There’s a good reason he is blowing up on RUclips! Thank you for being a Ren supporter. You might try Chalk Outlines with chinchilla Or sick boi. His recent surgery was successful in Canada Let’s hope that continues! 🙏🌺🦋
I watched 1 reaction ,with a pastor. He was floored. The biblical references at the last 2 versus ,that speak of Faust and the internal struggle of dealing the Lyme disease. It questions his faith and his will to live. Powerful lyrics
Hi Gursaiv, I have lost count of the number of times I have listened to Hi Ren and the reactions too and it never gets worn. Out of them all, your one stood out your aura and your pure enthusiasm was on another level. You have a very bright future in whatever you chose to do after Uni. Seven years ago I lost my son he was around your age and the wheels of my life fell off. A close friend bought me an Album by a Band called M83 - "Hurry up we are dreaming". There were 2 songs that stood out like a sore thumb, Wait and Intro. Intro I played about 4 or 5 times a day for almost a year and it rewired my mindset to embrace what had happened and keep going for my son's sake at least. Now I am almost back to my old self and when I heard Hi Ren I instantly related to it because there was never a day that went past I would have those two voices too. One was forever beating me up as a failed parent, and the other was telling me there was nothing I could have done to prevent it. Could you please make my day by reacting to M83 - intro (live) or M83 - Wait. Better still both because like "Hi Ren", they both tell a story. One of hope and one that tells you to submit to your grief and embrace it.
Playing M83 Intro right now, yes, sounds great. I did not have such a terrible thing happen to me, but when I was down cos of a not so funny issue, Haken's songs Crystallised and Puzzle Box helped me a lot. It is great that music can be helpful that much!
Brilliant reaction video. You totally understand this piece of genius art from Ren. Please watch THE TALE OF JENNY AND SCREECH ( FULL VERSION ) It is equally as strong as HI REN and THE best trilogy anyone could ever create. Ren is, in my opinion, THE greatest songwriter in the world right now ( possibly ever ) His creativity knows no bounds. I am 62 years old and have been a songwriter since my early teens. I have never been so inspired by any creative artist. With Ren, we are witnessing something / someone very very special 🙏
Great reaction - Great personality and intelligence! Will be looking for more of reactions to Ren he has such a great catalog and he’s so so talented just as musical poet artist performer!
71 yr old thinks: what a fine review! i appreciate your input with knowledgeable info. i subbed and i'll be back. and, please pray for ren's healing. God's will be done.
👍🏻You’re very good, hon.👏🏻You’ll make a wonderful therapist. Btw, more than poetry or a song, this is really a work of art; a riveting one act play written by a talented creative genius. All the best to you, dear. 3/15/23
Glad to some one young to react to this. Sorry to disappoint you but life struggles does not get easier when you get older it is another struggle sadly.
Been a therapist for 20 years. I have clumped all diagnoses. You say schizophrenia vibes. I say natural human existence. If we don't label, then we can truly attune to each person as their own full expression of their existence. Only then can we help move them toward a full expression of themselves.
Thank you!! That is what it’s about. The human condition. It’s not about schizophrenia. We all have internal dialogues. We all struggle with self doubt. We all beat ourselves up.
The DSM operates on labels and other generalizations. In an ideal world that wouldn't be necessary. But how does one even teach, without first having names for concepts, and related mental conditions? Since you've had the training and experience, yes, YOU can do good work, perhaps without referring back to the extensive training and classical terms. E.g., should people not use the term "autistic spectrum"? Just the recognition that there is a spectrum to it was an awesome step forward in understanding it. Terms and labels are not bad in themselves; the problem is how they can become abused or misunderstood. "Natural human existence" comprises many and varied types of experiences, which deserve names to be understood, just as there are many emotions that have universally understood meanings, with names, while also belonging to natural human existence.
eminems song hes referring to is guilty conscience where hes the devil on dudes shoulder and dr dre is the angel opposite and they argue back and forth as the peoples inner thoughts
👍 Good to hear a northern accent. Not sure I can add much to what's been said already, except it's possibly the best art I've seen and heard in a very long time. Dylan would be impressed I'm sure.
This was even the old discussion between Freud and Jung. And Freud's advice to Jung: Don't think so much about your dreams. They finally parted ways. And the melody of the movie Good, Bad, Ugly by Ennio Morricone.

Subbed.
Thank you!
you're so cute! that accent, the moments you wanted to pause, but just couldn't haha. I subbed, i want to see more of your reactions :)
Very perceptive reaction. One of the most impressive reactions I've heard to this incredible piece of art!
'Chalk outlines': an examination of medication side-effects.
Haunting duet with Chinchilla.
You might try Chalk Outlines with chinchilla
Or sick boi.
His recent surgery was successful in Canada Let’s hope that continues! 🙏🌺🦋
Awesome reaction! Loved it ive watched so many ppl react to this yours is up there great job girl!
Mosey Is INNOCENTT🎉 He Released 'Flu Game' Please react to it and More Lil Mosey songs in the Future
Wow young lady, loved your reaction. You are one very smart cookie.
Beautiful reaction! You really picked up the essentials and your reactions are so vivacious. Thank you!
beautiful reaction.
Dope song, and dope reaction! Thanks for doing what you do!
Watched loads of Ren reactions but this is the first with a northern accent. So that's a subscribe 😀
🤪
Alright pal, quality song art at it's finest. is that a Bradford accent there ? Much love from Glasgow...
Tom Macdonald did it, I'm a huge Tom fan but this is a step above the way he did this. ❤️
One of the most genuine reactions. Thank you !!!
Great insights, I loved your appreciation of it.
Love your reactions. Love listening to your accent too. 😊
Great reaction. I hope you show up in my suggestions. If so, I will check out more.
With Ren, we are witnessing something / someone very very special 🙏
wow you got it so fast.
Great reaction - Great personality and intelligence! Will be looking for more of reactions to Ren he has such a great catalog and he’s so so talented just as musical poet artist performer!
Great reaction. Definitely do more Ren! I’ll be here for it. :)
Eminem's song that is referenced is Guilty Conscience. But in that song the two voices are portrayed by Eminem and Dr Dre.
71 yr old thinks: what a fine review! i appreciate your input with knowledgeable info. i subbed and i'll be back. and, please pray for ren's healing. God's will be done.
Nice reaction and smile.
This modern masterpiece needs to be part of every high school curriculum.
Love your accent. ..reaction was wonderful
👍🏻You’re very good, hon.👏🏻You’ll make a wonderful therapist. Btw, more than poetry or a song, this is really a work of art; a riveting one act play written by a talented creative genius. All the best to you, dear. 3/15/23
Great reaction. Draft question, are you from Bradford ( I am) your accent pricked up my West Yorkshire ears.🕊️😉
Please support this beast.... mental health is the last Taboo......but he just doesn't talk about that....the best bard
Here for a Ren reaction. Please please look at Chalk Outlines and How to be me. Oh and Dominos! I'm a psychology graduate and they are so revealing.
Glad to some one young to react to this. Sorry to disappoint you but life struggles does not get easier when you get older it is another struggle sadly.
I love your accent,I can guess where you're from ,but one of four football teams!? Great reaction and eyebrows!🏴❤️
I thought ID, EGO, Super Ego. I agree, to me this portrays an internal dialogue that we all experience.
Hi Ren is a masterpiece. Ren is channeling.
Loved the insight. Thank you!
eminems song hes referring to is guilty conscience where hes the devil on dudes shoulder and dr dre is the angel opposite and they argue back and forth as the peoples inner thoughts
👍 Good to hear a northern accent.
Not sure I can add much to what's been said already, except it's possibly the best art I've seen and heard in a very long time. Dylan would be impressed I'm sure.
So how many times have you listened to this? Myself, as many reactions as I can find. ❤
I like your positivity…thank you.
Must listen to Jenny's, Screech's Violets tale (full) modern day Minstrel/bard.
This was even the old discussion between Freud and Jung. And Freud's advice to Jung: Don't think so much about your dreams. They finally parted ways. And the melody of the movie Good, Bad, Ugly by Ennio Morricone.
after watching 100 reactions finally someone mentions Ennio. I had the same thought during the second "oh"-part.
Brilliant breakdown of this absolute classic.
Wonderful reaction. Ren is a genius and a masterclass in storytelling. 💙
WOW, one of the best react to videos i’ve seen…
As a psyche patient, its absolutely perfect
I am obsessed with watching reaction videos to Ren.
Hey Yorkshire gal..Yorkshire guy here..I predict a fine future for you. Impressive.
The Eminem Song is 'Guilty Conscience'. It's on YT with the music video.
