I just replaced mine. Getting the axle nut off took hours. I went and got a 2ft long 1/2" breaker bar and it finally worked. This is after torching it for 5 minutes straight too. That was the only hard thing to figure out, the rest was pretty easy.
Also nowadays it's best just to replace the whole axle, no good reason not to.

I agree on replacing the whole axle. And never hit the axle with a hammer can damage the axle itself and the wheel bearing.

Hard to know without hearing what you're talking about, sure it isn't coming from the left side? Could be s brake shield? Or the worse would be the output shaft on the transmission. But if it happens over bumps it's probably something hitting in the suspension somewhere.

Currently having a similar issue with my 2019 equinox with 71k miles. I just had the sway links replaced since they were pretty shot and the drive feels a bit better. I tested my car at around 20-25 miles an hour and I can hear this weird knocking/clicking noise when I'm doing little "evasive maneuvers." In other words turning the wheel sharply left and right while going down the road. The noise happens when turning both left and right as well. I'm hoping its an inner tie rod out of wack, since the tie rods don't look great either. Any advice?

    • @Motorcarnut

Can very well be the tie rods. If you can get a crowbar in the joints while the truck is on the ground see if you can see excessive movement from any parts of the steering, if so tht would be the culprit.

Job is now 1150 😡🤬😡🤬😡. I showed them the receipt from a couple of years ago. Labor prices, etc have changed. I usually fix once and never have issues again. Twice I've had to get same part replace.
