Same problem hit me when I started my trip from uk to lithuania (2000km/1200mi) with my car. You cannot imagine the noise I was supposed to listen while driving 90/130kmh for 22 hours. The solution that I found most helpful by far was turning the music volume to max.
I had a car that had that noise. I felt the front of the car drop down. The next day I drove the car those balls rolled from under the tire. I took the used cv parts to auto zone in 3 pieces the guy looked at me and said if you was driving that car like that your lucky to be alive.
I love that you cut the boot open and cleaned it up to show it to us, now I can pair the noise with a visual - now that sound makes perfect sense. Thanks.
Watch a million videos on it for your car ,get familiar with the process. Buy the tools and parts needed Grab some beer, invite a friend And DIY Save you a couple bills
My neighbor was like hey your cv joints are bad i was like wow thanks and he was right lmao. And i had no idea wtf that noise was lol. I tried googling it before but never found this. But this is it! 😂
Great vid! Showing the clicking noises helped me pinpoint my problem. Also, thanks for removing the boot and cleaning the grease away so that we could see exactly how this happens. Sub'd.
Thank you for verifying! I had replaced the front shocks and still heard the noise. I was thinking probably axle. And yep, because I hear the sound when I’m turning mainly at low velocities like going into a driveway or when I’m turning the wheels to park in reverse.
I was told my boot was torn but I didn’t think anything of it now after 5 months 😵💫 (I know) I’m hearing clicking for 2 days from passenger side . I’ve seen online that my car could stop driving or moving . I’ve ordered the part but now I’m nervous to drive anywhere . Should I be concerned after only two days of the sound?
I just have to say hallelujah praise GOD I have him and have all do you? Turn to the LORD and have all your work doesn’t go unnoticed amen hallelujah praise GOD!!!! GOD bless all!!!
That’s a real pop! I have a 2016 Scion tC and it’s more of a high pitched clink when I turn my wheel a solid rotation rather than a popping noise like in the video...
Hi there! I'm from Fiji, and I would like to simply say thank you for the very informative and educational explanation you've given, regarding CV joint problems. Now I get to understand my vehicular problems a little better than before. Thanks again, bro!
I remember hitting a bump/potholes with a focus and I left part of the ball joint at a intersection in San Antonio lol. It was slinging grease all over my rims. My rav4 is making a loud thunk popping and rattling on certain roads turns and accelerating.
Excellent vid best one for cv joints clicking by far. One of my passenger side cv boots had split, i ignores it and it lead to getting a new driveshaft. Not really dear though 61ukp for brand new driveshaft with 2 years guarantee for Z20LET engine. Its getting fitted in 1 day, Wednesday 17th February 2021 as the clicking is now terrible.
I was stuck in deep sand in my FWD 4 cylinder van last month. Trying to get out I heard a few loud pops. I drove it home and now when the van has been parked for a while, when I first try to back out or drive off it makes a single popping noise, like a knuckles dislodging. After it makes the noise it does not make it again while driving.. i drove 300 miles stopping at countless intersections and it never made the noise until the following morning backing out of a parking space. Anybody got any ideas?
Great video with details! My Subaru Forester was making similar noises when turning at slow speeds. My mechanic said the axle needs to be replaced. My car was lifted 2" so I'm wondering if that could have caused the damage like this too?
Is it more common for the front or rear to wear out on an all wheel drive Jeep? Im getting that clunking but its really hard to tell which ones its coming from.
I re-did my outer boots and added OEM Honda grease and after a few weeks click started, before it wasn’t there only torn boots, my guess is too much grease leaked out and joint got worn or I didn’t put enough grease but I used all that came with kit 😳
I always replace cv axles if the boots are busted, clicking or not. It was probably messed up before you put the boot on. Sometimes you can get lucky putting a boot on.
I have a slight click coming from the front end but my axels are on the rear. It only does it when i turn my wheel to the left and reversing. It drives me nuts
My 2012 Honda Odyssey also making the same noise like yours when I turn left and right. But only coming from the front passenger side, also, a small vibration when accelerates. Do you think this could be the axle or motor mounts? the front rotors shakes when braking from high speed like 60 above. Does a bad rotors will cause turning noise or acceleration vibration? Thanks
This really helped me understand what that noise is in my 2018 Ford Edge. Still under powertrain warrantee, I brought it into Ford dealership and they said my CV Boot is leaking, and they will replace it in 2 weeks after parts come in. They said that it is such a small leak, it will be ok for me to drive it to Key West Sunday, 500 miles each way. But I have been hearing this sound for a year or so. And how does he know how long it has been leaking? He didn't mention anything about the bearings, he said I just need my Boot replaced, but I do have that sound in my right drivers wheel when I turn. What do you or anyone else think? I believe it has been leaking for over a year. It has about 55,000 miles on it. Is it safe to drive? Update. I just went out and crawled under ant looked at the boots and axle. They all look clean and new and there is no grease splattered or leaking anywhere. The axle is not loose. The only thing is that when I make a sharp right turn, I hear 2 or 3 little pops
The sound on mine is only if im driving in second gear specially louder if i am making a great turn.. steering on first gear when just starting has no sound
I have an issue with 2007 tsx where when I'm braking and turning at low speeds I will get a clicking noise. Going through drive thrus is the worst with braking and accelerating multiple times plus going around the corners at slow speeds. Noise coming to a stop and letting off the brakes. This seems to be a problem from the front right wheel. Also when the front right wheel hits a good bump at speeds it feels like it rattles a bit, sometimes the car will shake for a sec depending on the bump. But if I ever hit bumps on the left side of the car its still solid and doesnt really make much noise. Could those issues be caused by this CV axle? Edit: Also want to add that very rarely the steering wheel will become very shakey on some roads. Not sure what causes it as it's happened multiple times on the same road but never really any where else and this one road doesnt even appear to be worse than much of the other roads i drive on
@@BarboursAutoHelp Yeah I'm bringing to family friend soon who's a mechanic, he's just busy atm. Just wanted to poke around and try and get some ideas of what it was Thanks for reply
Ok, I have a question. You said the noise is during acceleration. I have the opposite, same noise in this video but it's loud when there's not much or no load. When I'm downshifting / engine braking no noise and acceleration no noise. Note new bearings on driven wheels and new rotors and pads all the way around 90s acura cl
Hey folks! I've gotten some comments that the audio of the noise isn't all that great in the above video....So, I made another. It's a short one that only goes over the audio. Here is the link ruclips.net/video/sNuEUwOq4k0/видео.html
Yep that's what I got on my Dodge Dakota right now among the Humming from Wheel Bearrings and when I jack up I put my hand 9-3 and can wiggle the tire so outer tie rod is done. I have to do it all???
This started to happen right after the shop replaced this now I'm waiting for them to open on Monday to make them fix it.. idk if the part was defective or what. But now I can't work all weekend
You're the only person that takes the time to show and explain the noise. Others show how the cv axle works, but no explanation about the noise. Thanks!
I enjoyed watching. I did notice grinding noise when turning and the wheel looks slanted and has a little play I think it’s the bearing. But could also be a bad cv axle. I appreciate your time.
A lot of times its less hassle and not a lot more expensive to replace the whole thing. Just the outer joint however are available for a lot of vehicles out there.
What could it be if the noise is between 20 and 40 kmph? It started at the right back wheel and now is on the drivers front side...And usually happens on a slight turns..lets say 2nd exit in the roundabout..It is a hybrid automatic 2014
Hello my friend I have the same issue going on with my 2022 Ford transit connect that I just bought and it has five issues already. I was wondering if by any chance you would be kind enough I could send you some videos of my sound and you might be willing to take a look at them and concur. I want to personally thank you because I’ve been trying to find out what is wrong with my new van and it is making the exact same sound. Your video gave me hope LOL
Well, why don't you just take it to the dealership have have it diagnosed and repaired for free? Why bother with it? I'm assuming it's under warranty. Hard to believe your out of bumper to bumper. You can send a video if you like, but why go through all that head ache?
Yes, "typically" inner joints behave a little differently. Normally they don't cause noise when they fail. Usually a vibration is a symptom of a bad inner joint. It may cause a clunk type noise but I've not seen them make noises like an outer joint.
Here in seattle people freak out when they hear a clicking noise , something they have hardly ever heard before, but then they realize that they accidently turn there blinker on
Thank you for this video. My steering is starting to make noises like this and I was curious as to the anatomy of it all to see what's really going on.
Hey man. Will you take a look at the last video I uploaded? I'm trying to diagnose a clicking sound in my 2016 Mustang GTPP. I have ruled out axle nuts or anything obtrusive. It's a clicking sound coming from the rear. Does not affect drivability. Does not do it if the car is in neutral.
Cool tip i figured out. Just turn your music up really loud and the ticking stops! That easy
seems expensive i'll just ignore it
When I turn it sounds like I’m going up on a rollercoaster
Good, video finally someone show the noise.
Same problem hit me when I started my trip from uk to lithuania (2000km/1200mi) with my car. You cannot imagine the noise I was supposed to listen while driving 90/130kmh for 22 hours. The solution that I found most helpful by far was turning the music volume to max.
I just left my car with a mechanic for 6 hours who said my car is fine even though my car has been making this noise for months. I knew he was wrong.
I had a car that had that noise. I felt the front of the car drop down. The next day I drove the car those balls rolled from under the tire. I took the used cv parts to auto zone in 3 pieces the guy looked at me and said if you was driving that car like that your lucky to be alive.

Glad to help
Great video. I'm hunting down a noise at the moment, and video and explanation helped me rule it out. Your expertise is greatly appreciated!
What does it mean when it constantly makes that noise without turning
I'm just glad I saw this before I ordered both cv axles and hubs when all I need is the axles... Thanks for the info!
So in other words, its expensive
Watch a million videos on it for your car ,get familiar with the process.
Buy the tools and parts needed
Grab some beer, invite a friend
And DIY
Save you a couple bills
Mine sounds like that when turning leftt or right. ALSO the car vibrates whenever I turn my ac on
Best video explaining the dynamics of why you’re experiencing the symptoms
My neighbor was like hey your cv joints are bad i was like wow thanks and he was right lmao. And i had no idea wtf that noise was lol. I tried googling it before but never found this. But this is it! 😂
Good explanation. I just heard this noise while pulling out quickly with traffic. With the wheel turned left and hard accelerating I hear it..
Great video and good information. But if you keep driving on bad cv joints what's the ultimate outcome?
i did some research and it says your car will eventually stop moving.
I usually hear popping sounds on my car when it is raining or when I pass through water.
I suspect a cv axle is bad in my car but it does it while going straight in addition to all the other symptoms you named
me too
My fusion does this as I’m typing this, I’m about to replace both axles and the control arms ect

It's that the driveshafts problem?
Out Freaking Standing and is just what's going on with my 05 Scion XA ! Thanks
TRAMENDUS!
Have the same exactly noise in My mercedes c250 2012 and I bring it to machine the told me it's differential I don't know what should I do 😔
Nothing wrong with getting a second opinion.
Great video with details! My Subaru Forester was making similar noises when turning at slow speeds. My mechanic said the axle needs to be replaced. My car was lifted 2" so I'm wondering if that could have caused the damage like this too?
It's possible. But I'm not a 100% on that. I see a lot of vehicles with 2" lifts and it doesn't hurt the vehicle a bit.
My issue is I replaced both sides and still heat knocking. I’m sure I pushed the axle in all the way.
Thanks, I think this is the problem that my Ford Fiesta is having
Great video. Very thorough explanation without too much technical jargon, easy to understand. Thanks.
My vehicle will make a noise if I just start accelerating some times it does it some times it doesn’t. also does the same as yours tho

Can this noise happen going straight going over 70mph? Truck just started to make loud banging sound only over 70-75.
Yup, that's the sound! Thanks man
Mine only happens when I’m backing out of the drive way, it’s a loud click click from the driver side front. Then doesn’t click any other time.
My orthopedist is a car guy. When I told him my knee popped like a bad CV joint he knew exactly what I was talking about.

Just send it 🤷🏿♂️
Why wouldn't you just do this with the car raise or sitting still so you can clearly hear the noise because I can only hear wind and the engine
Hey so my boot broke and it makes that noise not that much do you think I can just put a new boot or should I re place the whole cv axle
What if you've replaced it and it's still making the exact same noise but a little quieter

I replaced my axels and I still hear it when I turn left!

Would have been good if you'd tested on a sealed road, heard more of the grave. But good explanation.
