    What people fail to understand is this: People who buy this car aren't looking for sophistication and beauty. They're looking for brute strength, and the ability to go really, really fast. Fuck the M5, or any other overpriced European pretty-boy car. The Hellcat appeals to a certain audience, and this car does what it's designed to do. Very well in fact.

      Thanks for the kind words. We're getting the hang of 4K Ultra High Def camera but it has been a step learning curve. Now that GoPro has a 4K camera we can really take advantage of the latest video technology and give our viewers the best quality car vids we can afford.

    I gotta say, Dodge has alot of balls to bring this bad boy of a car out to the market. But in a way its a good thing, to show that they can still do wild things and show that they can make a powerful car.

    • @rippinonap1
      @rippinonap1 10 лет назад +7

      it would completely defeat the purpose of the car. Its called the hell cat because its supposed to spin tires, slide around, and rip your face off. Its about pushing the limits of your scrotum where as the gtr is about putting down numbers. Everybody wants every car to be awd so it can be faster on paper as if theyve never driven a car to the limit before, some cars are actually about pure fun unlike the clinically serious gtr. Also think about mopar trying to piece together an awd system. They have the front axles to handle the power for sure, but they lack the technology to make an advanced enough awd system worthy of the global market. Not to mention that would be like a 5000 lb car knowing dodge lmao

  • @zzanatos2001

    I'll probably never be able to afford a car like the Hellcat, but I think it's great that Dodge is building it. When car companies break rules and exceed boundaries, it keeps things interesting.
    My next car will most likely be a new Acura TLX or Infiniti Q50.

    You beat everyone ! Bravo! Thanks, I have dreamed about a machine like this...but when they come out, I see myself in the 392, I want to live and stay out of jail.. but I know I'm going to get annoyed at all the, "is that a hellcat?" Questions... I have a 2013 300 v6 and I used to get the , "does it have the Hemi" question.. but it didn't bother me when I was getting 30 mpg.

    Looks like a great car , but hard to trust dodge quality , what short cuts did they take , what quality materials is this car made of ??? , u would have to take the car up on a lift and have an unbiased engineer give his opinion. Also will this car last after 100k miles

    • @niemann999
      @niemann999 10 лет назад +13

      Dodge is not like they were in the 90's. Fiat has really help improve their cars. By giving Chrysler to put money in their cars instead of doing everything cheap like they had to do when they had limited money.

      Derek Worth i drove one of those the other day for a rental. had the v6...punching it onto the interstate was impressive. little thing moves out pretty dang good for sure. i love the 1st - 4th gear changes too. only about a 800 rpm drop between gears.

    • @DerekWorth02

      jtugwell I love my car, hard to find another "family" car at 20k that makes 300hp and can do 0-60 in just over 6seconds. Although it's really ruff on gas. I average about 22mpg.

    Beautiful Charger in my opinion. Dodge is definitely stepping up their game. Love the fact that they put a louder and more throaty exhaust in it from the factory too instead of keeping it restrictive and quiet. Badass car!

  • @slacadjuster237
    @slacadjuster237 10 лет назад +8

    Yeah and a BMW M5 costs like 3x as much as the Hellcat Charger, and still won't beat it. Foreign junk!
    The Charger is a little lighter than the Challenger, and the Hellcat Challenger is 3.5 sec to 60, and 1/4 mile trap speed (125 MPH) is faster than BMW or Porsche crap. One magazine that I read did the 0-60 time of 2.9 sec. Faster than ANY Vette or zr1 GM junk.
    Mopar or no car!!!

  • @thethrill04
    @thethrill04 10 лет назад

    I have had 3 chargers, 2 of them were SRT's. The attraction for me is 4 doors and all the power in one package. This car is a real bargain. Would love to see what the aftermarket companies like Hennessey can do with this.

    • @SillyPuddy2012
      @SillyPuddy2012 9 лет назад +3

      Truth be told, BMW isn't what it used to be. Even they've lost their way, with their cars becoming heavier and more automated to compete with current trends. Even going so far as to nickel and dime their clientele with optional power/performance packages for the M cars, which are supposed to be special high-performance vehicles to begin with.

    I didn't like the new Charger when it was first unveiled but that design has really grown on me.. I think it looks good now.
    I especially love the new rear end.. that's one feature I'm glad they copied from the Dart. The Dart at night looks sooo much sexier than the Charger because the Chargers racetrack lights have individual LEDs and the light itself is flat.. The new Charger has the same curved racetrack lights which don't show individual LEDs like the 2014+ Dart, looks so much better.

      +jay syed No, you don't get the sound, you don't get the ass end kicking out, you don't get to do burnouts, with a GTR you get a tool, a weapon. With the Hellcat you get something fun, something that requires talent to drive. Who gives a fuck about a fraction of a second 0-60 over way more fun.

Dodge is popular here in Australia but you'll rarely see a Charger or Challenger, so I can only that their build quality is fine for their other vehicles. Practicality, you can get the 2-door challenger, but some people have families and don't want to deal with a stick in traffic

    • @Chris10rx
      @Chris10rx 10 лет назад

      KOG1235 I hear what you saying but its supposed to be a high performance car. You don't put a family in a car with all that power and then never ever use any of it. Just pointless.
      The people with families should get a van if that's the case. Way more seats and provides much more comfort.
      That's my thoughts on that deal there.

      "Don't buy this high performance 4 door car with 700hp and an auto tranny because it has 2 more doors and it deviates from sporty 2 doorness. No muscle car should have 4 doors. Muscle and convenience? No never gonna happen. Instead buy a much gayer minivan because for whatever reason I could think of you can't have 4 doors an auto tranny and use all your power." that's what your comment sounds like right now.

      Oh my the BMW M5 specs suggest only 552 HP and 502 ft-lbs compared to the Hellcat's 707 HP and 650 ft-lbs with a base price of $92K starting $30K above the Dodge. Romans says this sounds like the making of a classic TFL Mashup review.

      I'm a BMW guy. I daily an 1998 E36 328is. I weekend an 1987 E30 325is. And I think to a point you're right, but also skewed.
      Yes the M5 is a much more composed, well rounded car. It's extremely refined, massively powerful, blazing fast in all areas. Personally, I LOVE the M5. It's an incredible piece of engineering and performance, and is basically unsurpassed. It's what every other full-sized luxury sport sedan wants to be, and is a unicorn chased by other manufacturers.
      The problem is that you're assuming that this car is targeting the M5. It's not. It's not trying to seem refined or trying to pretend to be anything its not. It was built from day one to be a monster. Untamed, unhampered, and angry. It's a super saloon, just like the M5 is. But I think this car is meant more as a statement than an M5 is. It isn't really tame or restrained at all, is it? It's focused on being raw and in your face. When the Viper came out in the 90's, there were many cars in its segment that were more refined, proven platforms. They had way more glimmer on their belt. But guess what car in the segment had everyone terrified? The Viper. It was a raw and rugged punch to the throat, basically making the statement "I dont give a s**t, sit down in my seat and hang the f**k on, because if you mess up, I'll kill you." Given this car does have several more assists and such, and many more electronics to make it a viable street vehicle, I think this is kinda the same idea. It's just that big guy that walks up, punches the heck out of another guys face, and says "I have 707 freaking horsepower, and I really dont care what you other punks think. Don't screw with me."
      I also add that they built this car with the idea that it has no segment. The said this at the reveal. It doesn't fit in with a GTR, but it's not really in the M5's class, but then it's definitely putting down supercar figures... They just decided to literally say "F**k it, we're gonna build it because we can. Lets redefine what a street car, 4 door, grocery getter can be." Many would say that this is what the M5 does, but I would disagree there too. The original M5 broke the mold, and said that a 4 door can be a supercar too. It challenged all the conventions of what one could, and what one should do. The Hellcat, while it's not trying to be so, honestly stands more in these ideals than the modern day M5 does. Todays M5 says "Look at what is possible, look how well we can do this. Look at how well it performs and how incredibly balanced it is, and look what years of engineering have created." The Charger Hellcat just says "I dont care that you say a 4 door shouldnt have 700hp and run 11s. I do. And I don't care what you think, because deep down, you know that at least for a moment, youd love to drive me. Like that deep dark fantasy that you've always had at easy access but never taken advantage of because you feel its below your standards."
      On the issue of value, I want to agree with you. I REALLY want to agree with you. But I'm not sure... Have you looked at the depreciation lately? While the most desirable cars, like the E30, E30 M3, the original M5, M6, etc. Are skyrocketing, many more modern cars are on the low, M cars included. Not that I see this as a bad thing per say, but its true. You can now buy an E36 M3 with decent miles in great shape for under 8 grand. You can have a same generation M5 for less than 12 grand, at least around here you can. Non-Ms are even lower. I saw a 120K 540i on craigslist the other day for like 4 grand dude. And while there are always little things wrong, it was a well maintained, very well recorded car with some little paint problems. The problem you run into is that technology advances extremely fast these days. Todays M5 will be far outdated in 4 years. All the technology it utilizes will be obsolete and second hand. After 5 years time, an new M5 will lose a huge chunk of value. The Hellcat will suffer from this as well. But, performance wise, its technology is set to persevere longer and depreciate less. The 8 speed auto will always be able to be driven by anyone, and is a piece of technology already on the forward curve. The M5 utilizes turbos to make power. Turbo technology, while it will stay the same in principle, is currently evolving rapidly, and so those turbos will be soon outdated. The Hellcat uses a twin-scroll supercharger. The technology has been around for years, and the blowers are still pretty much the same as they always have been, with slight tweaks here and there. There's not much about the Hellcat powerplant to become obsolete. Theres not a lot on the car at all to become obsolete. The infotainment? Yeah true, but Chysler's infotainment is pretty high up in the industry and will take its time depreciating since its the same system Ferrari and Maserati use in their cars. Plus, you don't have a huge sum of money to depreciate from. A Hellcat 5 years from now will still be worth 40 grand, maybe more. An M5 will only be worth slightly more, which says a lot considering an M5 starts in the 90 grand range and the charger starts 30 grand less in the 60 grand range.
      Point is, I wouldn't count my chickens before they hatch. While the M5 is a superior package, and I'd like to believe it to be superior overall, I'm not so sure it has superiority over what the Hellcat is aimed for. I could be totally wrong and the modern M5 could maintain a huge resale, but then, maybe I'm not wrong at all. We'll jsut have to wait and see.

      Roman that is a splendid idea sir. In the spirit of good sportsmanship I think a lot of viewers would like to see a Mashup between the Chrysler Challenger Hellcat and the BMW M5. Regarding the price differences in the case of the BMW in the end it is about best return of investment, and the best resale value holder in a five year strech. You have been reviewing cars long enough to honestly know Roman the BMW will always come out on top it is a matter of black and white facts and figures.
      I would like to see a show of hands, How many viewers would like to see a TFL car mashup between the Chrysler Charger Hellcat and the BMW M5 Please make your polite comments to Roman directly. Chrysler, BMW have you got your ears and eyes open?

    To me this car is amazing. Its somewhat of a sleeper car with its 'modern' appearance but it's fully capable of winning a couple red-light drag races against other cars. Personally, I prefer this rendition of the charger over the previous versions because of its more sleek design (everyone is entitled to their opinion) but since I live up north I see a good amount of snow which means I have to settle for the V6 AWD model, not that there's anything wrong with that model. Not to mention it reminds me a bit of my dream car, the 2012 Transformers Edition Camaro.

    Killer car. Edelbrock makes a supercharger system you can put on a 5.7L Hemi Charger or Challenger that produces over 530 horsepower once installed. Comes with an intake manifold, programmer, etc... A whole kit. It's like $7k-$8k. I sell Pursuit Package Dodge Chargers with the 5.7L Hemi @ my dealership. I've got a 2011 right now. One of these days I'm gonna have to get that Edelbrock Supercharger System & have 540 horses for less than $20k. I just sold a 2008 5.7L Charger with just over 100k miles for only $8600!

    Completely blown away. When I first heard about this car I was sure that 707HP would be useless because this car wouldn't be able to handle all that power, but I was wrong. Not a fan of American cars but this thing in insane and with that much power I wouldn't care about the fact that this car's quality is no where near my LS460 which costs even more that this. But it all goes back to how common chargers are on the road. The only people you can impress with this car are petrol heads. As for LS and other full size luxury cars, you're going to stare at them no matter who you are. I wish a luxury car offered this much power for under 100k. But no, You pay like 150k and still get under 600hp in almost all full size luxury car's performance models.

    BMW i8 sound is not fake. It has 3-cylinder engine and those engines make absurdly beefy sound (compared to hp). Even the weakest 3-cylinder, they just sound weirdly good.
