Exactly. Many, many years ago a GM owed me a favor and I didn't have my rifle ribbon so took me to the range on the same day he took some EOD and SEALs. We shot M-16's. I had never shot one before and didn't like it much and I hadn't shot a rifle in at least 10 years.......... but growing up I did shoot a lot. I expected to get schooled by those guys but a funny thing happened, out of that group only me and the Chief got Expert, one got Sharpshooter, the others didn't even get Marksman. I'll wager though they could clear a building a lot better than I could.

I must saying being from Canada and not having guns as a day to day topic its refreshing to hear that there are much better ways to handle a situation.
Its kind of scary how in the states people will pull out a pistol and kill before even thinking about spending 250 bucks on a few months of self defense classes that in the end wont scar you for life or put you behind bars.
Not too many people kill someone in a road rage incident and take it to the grave that to SOB deserved it.

I enjoy it how the general perception is that Navy SEALs are the masters of all trades. They will be talking on a news program about nuclear war and bring on a former Navy SEAL as an expert contributor on the matter. He's a special operator, not a political or military strategist, nor is he a nuclear scientist. He's probably just an author or podcaster. Haha.
SEALs are awesome. They are very, very good at tactical operations, but they aren't the best at everything under the sun (except Naval Special Warfare), and not all of them are the same skill level even amongst one another. Yes, they shoot very, very proficiently. They are extremely well trained and they get a lot of range time and resources, but there are plenty of guys and even some girls out there who could give them a run for their money at shooting who have never served at all. Navy SEALs get very good hand to hand fight training, but there are plenty of MMAs that can beat most SEALs in a ring, mat, or octagon. That's not taking anything from the frogmen because they are as good as they come in the military special ops realm, but they're still human.
I went to a precion rifle course once where the best instructor there never served in the military. He was not sniper trained like the other instructors, but he has won dozens upon dozens of shooting competitions beating out a whole lot of former military snipers with ease. This dude was legit. Sure, he probably can't land nav, or sketch a rendition of a target house or piece of key terrain, or call in air support or indirect fire, but he can shoot a man at a mile out pretty consistently with not much effort at all.

I was at the range today and I really don't understand the replies to this. The target was 100% obscured using iron sights and 100% visible using my EPS Carry. This was at 80 yards, see vids attached, because there was nowhere for me to shoot steel with a pistol at 100 yards at my local range. I was technically breaking the rules doing what I did but luckily, they're not exactly range Natsees there. So please explain to me how you train or what you train with or how my eyesight alters this effect? I didn't say I couldn't make a 100 yard shot with irons. I said it was harder because the target was obscured. I didn't say I couldn't hit a 100 yard target because my eyes are getting weaker, only that I prefer dots now because they are. Let me say this about that though. If you can't make either shot, consistently, then you need to stay out of the discussion. I fully get that one is backfire and two is gunplay but again, I was breaking the rules just doing one shot each and didn't want to push my luck. I'll be happy to post another video in the future of me making consistent hits at this distance and beyond.

My Ruger MkIII Hunter 6 7/8" fluted barrel will, but it is 22lr. I shoot out to 110 yards with my Smith 460 xvr revolver on a regular basis, but that is 8 3/8". My competition xd40 4" is good at 40-50 yards but not so hot at 100 yards, but I run light loads so I can shoot a little faster. It is a stock barrel with 50,000+ rounds through it. The 9mm conversion barrel is supposed to be more accurate, but I don't use it often. Jerry miculeck did something like a 300 yard shot with a snub nose 357 revolver to prove it could be done, but he doesn't count. He isn't human, but rather a shooting God.

I'm a regular guy but would want my tricked out limited 10 xd-40 and my own handloads with the bullets from the automated bullet casting machine I built. A spring failed in my xd after 10's of thousands of rounds and a guy let me borrow his glock 19 backup carry gun. I ran the 9mm ammo for my AR 9. After a stage or two, the stock glock was shooting all double alphas. It would have been so fun to shoot this match with these guys, although I have never tried the pinky shot, and yes, I used to shoot prone, kneeling, from a teeter totter, 10 roof top, after soaking my strong hand in ice water, from the hip with a tommy gun, donuts instead of solid plates on the texas star. Our match director was nick named Mr. Twisted....May he RIP.

CAN and DOES….are two different words sir….
As someone who worked with SPECWAR UNITS for a good half of my 22 years? I’d take strong exception with your comment.
The level of sheer rounds that they put down range in an average year? Well? My backstory is supply…the numbers a team devours in a fiscal year is insane by anyones measuring stick.
I’d agree on one point you made?
They’ll shellac just about anyone, when it comes to tactics and movements.
I’ve seen them work….and go thru kill houses before deployments, etc.
I’ve seen SWAT do similar good work…
But the overall level of finish level gloss they place on overall fluid and safe move to, solidly goes to the SEALS.
Only entity I could say really challenges both areas?
      Overall marksmanship and finesse?
      CAC, in the airforce.
Combat are controllers are serious business.
And I might throw a couple retired SAS men I saw train with DELTA FORCE MEMBERS years and years ago at Fort Lewis in Washington state.
      Fun thing?
The SAS bet the SF Army guys a BBQ for the turkey shoot they held.
Thing is? The SAS didn’t know anything about what they’d need for a proper BBQ, or ask about where to buy the food!
Didn’t matter. I sat with two of their spouses and they said, that don’t lose competitions.
      She wasn’t kidding.
The result was rather embarrassing for the Green Berets! The SAS guys razzed the Delta guys HARD!
      They asked….
“Perhaps this is the provisional berets”? Or maybe some army national guard gentlemen stole uniforms and ruined your teams scores?
      Lemme tell you?
That was a summer of 1998 as a new Lieutenant, I’ll always remember fondly!
      And p.s.
I rated marksman on rifle and sharpshooter on pistol. I think the range master was a wee bit liberal with how he scored my hits and misses.
I’m what’s called a MUSTANG….former enlisted of fourteen years…like the range master, I was a former gunners mate and we had served on the Nimitz together!
      Cheers and God bless you!

@84CORVETTEBILL exactly. I said CAN. For example, competition shooters CAN shoot better than some Seals. Now I'm not saying they would win in a fight cuz I'd bet on the Seal every time. That's why I said tactics and skill are 2 different things.

Good for you guys for including the misses. Nobody’s perfect. Even the best miss sometimes. Makes me cringe when I see guntubers have a bunch of jump cuts and 100% accuracy in their vids.

@@Swamp-Fox that’s okay. Years ago, I had a guy whose CB handle was “Swamp Fox”, give me a lift from Louisville, KY to Indianapolis, after I had spent 1-1/2 days walking from Mt. Juliet, TN to Louisville, KY. I thought you were him, because I was going to thank you for the lift. Sorry for the confusion.
