I think the best buy would be the watch 4 as of now. The prices have dropped significantly and the pixel watch seems to be not as promising and the battery would also last a single day. Great Review!!!
also to mention here, that the inaccuracy of the watch 4 in for example hearth rate monitoring could be improved with software updates. Because technically these two watches are the same
I never owned a Samsung watch before so the watch 5 is worth it to me and for my needs. However it makes sense that most people find this disappointing considering the fact that the watch 4 and 5 are pretty much identical.
This was one of the best galaxy watch review videos I've seen, short and sweet. Got the watch 4 for 180 usd with tax, really enjoying it. I will definitely be checking out your other videos, well presented and didn't waste my time with a bunch of nonsense that doesn't really matter. Great video 👍

I'm new to Galaxy watches, and quite like the new navigation method on the 5 Pro, guess you can't miss what you never had. I'm fortunate to be a newbie with the Watch 5 series. I bought my 5 Pro in mid-October 2022 and been using it for a couple of weeks now and I'm thouroughly satisfied with my choice. In hindsight, I'm so pleased that I tried out a couple of the other smartwatches (Ticwatch & Garmin) prior to making my final purchase.
I find the Watch 5 to have longer battery life, USB C charging and more accurate heart rate and sleep tracking. I did a trade in for my 4 which only costs $179.00 which also came with a bundled Samsung duo charger. My Watch 5 gets 2 days between charging. So happy with the trade in.
Sorry but my theory is opposite for the glass, little scratches are okay but you cannot neglect if it's cracked. Also my reason for going for Watch5 is battery life, you did not get much difference as you tested 40mm, there's a good difference in the 44mm watches.

I just bought myself a brand new Samsung Watch 5 for my birthday next week. I paid $170 for a brand new Watch 5 directly from Samsung because of various options and discounts that I couldn't get anywhere else. It was actually quite a bit cheaper for me than buying a Watch 4, and the Watch 5 Pro was still more than I wanted to pay even with my discounts, so I opted for the regular Watch 5. I'm not a fan of how bulky the 5 Pro is and I don't plan on doing any extreme activities or trekking into the wilderness so the regular Watch 5 should be fine for me.
I love my 4. Would I be happier if the HR monitor was more accurate? yes. But that is not enough for me to change. Will I look at newer watches, when they come out? maybe.
Great content. I just got my watch4 44mm, and I love it. Now I was coming from the active 2 watch. And now we just got the watch5 faces for the watch 4. So no need to trade up
It makes sense for Samsung to release an iterative update rather than something very different. The Watch 5 is just a refined Watch 4 with the Watch 5 Pro being more of a real upgrade. Sort of. They are still making the best Android smartwatches. And right now they have the Watch 4 for value oriented customers who don't want to spend over 200 bucks, the Watch 5 for those who don't care and just get the latest model and the Watch 5 Pro for those who want the best of the best. That seems like a very effective business model to me that covers all grounds for them.
I have to admit I was expecting to get blown away going from my Active2 to the Watch5 but it wasn't an order of magnitude better than I expected. I think I'm going to keep it, though. Traded in my original Galaxy Watch and will keep the Active2 with its golf yardage software. I like the clean look of the 5, was able to transfer my favorite watch bands from the Active2, the quick charging is pretty amazing, and the sapphire glass is a nice uptick. Downloading watch faces was a pain for some reason - it would state it was installed but it wouldn't appear as my updated watch face for some time.
Traded in my Galaxy Watch 3 for the 5 (44MM). My experience with the watch is much better and smoother. I only did it because Samsung offered 50% off for trade in. When those Snapdragon variants come out I will trade in if the differences are that dramatic. But so far I'm happy and impressed with it.
I dont think samsung indended for this watch to be enticing for people that have the watch 4/ 4 pro, its just better battery, better (AMOLED) screen, newer bluetooth standards, and a sapphire glass face. Its not an upgrade for people that have one, its just a good watch to buy if you dont have one or wanna switch from another one. You can get the watch 5 large for $20 more than the watch 4 large, literally worth it if you dont have a smartwatch or want to switch/upgrade
I have a watch 4 classic LTE. I won't be upgrading as I love the bezzle (I use it as a figit toy) battery lasts me 2 days but I charge every night. I don't use sleep tracking.

Get a $8 dollar cover for galaxy watch 4 and the screen will be protected from scratches.. so even though the 5 has sapphire screen a cover can help the 4 with good protection

I have the Galaxy Watch 5 Pro and, after having owned the version 3 and 4 (Classic) of the Galaxy watch, all LTE versions, the Pro's increased battery life is a huge improvement and the reason I upgraded. But, if battery life behind 22 or 24 hours is fine with you, there's no need to get the 5, Pro or otherwise. Edited to add: Frankly, the Pixel watch - since it was mentioned here - is absolute garbage. Battery-life on that watch is horrible (because it's battery is tiny). Also, if you drop it, it will shatter. It is a nice-looking design but totally ignores that it will get dropped at some point. Having a raised bezel (Galaxy Watch 4 Classic and 5 Pro) is a very good idea. I expected better from Google considering that they have had years of observation of what their competitors have been doing.

I have had the original Galaxy Active watch since 2019. It still stays charged for 1 day & 4-5 hours. I would like to use the additional features offered by the Galaxy Watch 4 or 5 but it really wouldn't change how I use my current smartwatch. Waiting for the next Samsung Galaxy watch seems like the prudent option since I have kept my first one nice for so long.
What about GW5 pro. Is it worth it regarding the battery improvement. I mean the improvment is really obvious? I hate charging any device everyday aside from my phone.

Oh, about battery life: With the 5 coming in, people in Switzerland are selling off their 4's! It's GREAT! I just scored a pristine 4 classic for about 140 USD and a slightly scratched 4 for about 60 USD. I use the lighter Watch 4 for workouts (I'm a crossfitter) and sleep, the handsome classic for everything else. Works like a charm, cost 200 USD all in all, and I'm never anywhere close to running out of power.

(The one typical aliexpress moment: I had to replace the quick release pins they sent it with - but that only took 5 minutes and 6 USD at a local department store.) BTW, I also got one of those magnetized silicon straps for the non-classic. It ALSO looks terrific, holds perfectly and is even lighter than the original.

But after listening to this clip, I feel that if so, then I don't have to buy the 5th generation. The 4th generation is good. If so, then wait to buy the 6th or 7th generation at once.

One question... If you have a mobile phone with you are the steps counted through the phone or the watch? Did you have your phone with you when you counted your steps?
I tried the 4 and I was really disappointed. My Garmin Venu 2S doesn't have some of the capabilities on the 4 or 5, but the battery life is nearly 600%. Not using the fitness apps on the Venu, I can get a full week of wear time. With a tracking 100 mile long bike ride, a marathon and a short-ish swim, I still get 4 days of wear. I think I'll stay with Garmin until Samsung improves their watch battery life. Unfortunately, I'm going to have to pay a $40 restock fee, but it's better than having a dud watch. I mean, I love all the stuff on this watch, but if it doesn't even have enough battery power to track even a 5K run, then it's useless to me.
I recently bought a Galaxy Watch 4 and surprisingly, it was faulty...the screen kept turning off while i was using it and the rise to wake just did not work whatsoever
Samsung watches are regressing and are being beaten out by Apple watches. People should not be upgrading to the GW5 or PRO unless they are new adapters or coming from 2+ generations behind. The idea that it took Samsung a whole year to do almost nothing while Apple watches actually delivered is really upsetting and not acceptable. Samsung deserves to slip down in smart watch market share after what they pulled this year.
What they should have improve: - Better bia sensor - Better cooling design - More indepth data (like hrv) or better heart rate sensor if needed for that - Way more energy efficient 4G cellular, or drop it (overheats within minutes on the watch 4) - Way more energy efficient cpu, even if they lowered overall performance it would be better that the watch constantly overheating when working 100% - more stable glass / display protection Overall the watch 4 (and sadly 5) cannot even compete with an years old apple watch series 2 I owned before

GW5 Pro is also a downgrade in terms of design. Rotating bezel is a much better option.

One question... If you have a mobile phone with you are the steps counted through the phone or the watch? Did you have your phone with you when you counted your steps?
The walking workout is started on the watch. So the count is from the watch.

I tried the 4 and I was really disappointed. My Garmin Venu 2S doesn't have some of the capabilities on the 4 or 5, but the battery life is nearly 600%. Not using the fitness apps on the Venu, I can get a full week of wear time. With a tracking 100 mile long bike ride, a marathon and a short-ish swim, I still get 4 days of wear. I think I'll stay with Garmin until Samsung improves their watch battery life.
Unfortunately, I'm going to have to pay a $40 restock fee, but it's better than having a dud watch. I mean, I love all the stuff on this watch, but if it doesn't even have enough battery power to track even a 5K run, then it's useless to me.

I recently bought a Galaxy Watch 4 and surprisingly, it was faulty...the screen kept turning off while i was using it and the rise to wake just did not work whatsoever
Battery life was awful to barely last me 12 hours half the time
When Indian variant get gpay or Samsung pay support in India.
Samsung watches are regressing and are being beaten out by Apple watches. People should not be upgrading to the GW5 or PRO unless they are new adapters or coming from 2+ generations behind. The idea that it took Samsung a whole year to do almost nothing while Apple watches actually delivered is really upsetting and not acceptable. Samsung deserves to slip down in smart watch market share after what they pulled this year.
What they should have improve:
- Better bia sensor
- Better cooling design
- More indepth data (like hrv) or better heart rate sensor if needed for that
- Way more energy efficient 4G cellular, or drop it (overheats within minutes on the watch 4)
- Way more energy efficient cpu, even if they lowered overall performance it would be better that the watch constantly overheating when working 100%
- more stable glass / display protection
Overall the watch 4 (and sadly 5) cannot even compete with an years old apple watch series 2 I owned before
