As a fact, the watch 4's battery is no worse than the apple watch. Yeah it's worse than previous galaxy watches, but still not worse than apple.

i had awful battery life with the LTE version of the watch 4, and truly didn't understand what people were talking about like your comment. I switched to an iPhone and the apple watch series 7 LTE with much better life. Thing is, I happened across a lightly used watch 4 some time later without LTE for cheap and tried it out just for kicks. Battery life was great. There were other issues with the LTE version, where charging would cause it to overheat ridiculously quickly, even with the Samsung stock wireless charger. On LTE calls, the watch would overheat in under 8 minutes. None of these issues exist on the non-LTE version. Curious to see if people point out the differences in this generation. I've pre-ordered the watch 5 pro so we'll see!

Lol, I was so confused.. The title says 5 but they are talking about 4....i just got the 5, fully charged it yesterday late afternoon and it's already down to 43% 😞
I know nothing about sleep tracker.... There's sooo much to this watch lol, it's my first "smart watch", it was a bday gift from my son and his dad.... But being soooo close to Christmas, I just haven't had the time to learn everything about it.... I mostly wanted it for work, to listen to music and be able to text if needed without getting a hassle for "being on my phone" and I looove watches.
I was thinking I'd charge it while I hop in the shower (not sure if it's waterproof yet, I think it is when I was looking into what one was best for me), that'll give it an hour to charge from start to finish when I'm getting ready.
The only thing I was thinking was I find fast charge on my Galaxy S22 Ultra also means fast dying, so I changed it to slow charge and find I get more put of my battery that way. I wonder if I can turn off the fast charge. The pro for me was too big, I have small wrists and the 5 fits it perfectly, if not a tiny tiny big.... And I have to look into this sleep track thing lol

Just as a minor thing, RISC is not reduced in terms of "only core things" just like CISC isn't only "complex things". The idea is in RISC each instruction is simpler so you need different combinations of many combinations to do the same thing that CISC can do maybe one or two instructions. However RISC allows for more optimization because of how tightly any "work" can be packed by CPU vs CISC will always have longer and more CPU cycle instructions.

    • @melgross
      @melgross Год назад +5

Well, that’s not exactly correct. The difference is that in CISC the chip does a great deal of the complex work, and the compiler is fairly simple. With RISC, it’s the opposite. The compiler is complex and reduces the operations the chip needs to do, so the chip can be simple.

Actually the Watch 4 has an option to warn you to get up and walk a little after a while sitting or not moving. It is a good reminder to make a break on work, take a coffee.
If you can't go, you can select: "Not now" and will remember you a few minutes later or you can simply dismiss the message. If you stand up and walk a little, the watch 4 will pop up a beauty message like "Hey you did it! great" and it feels good. Even if you do a little late from the notification, it shows this message so you kinda always remember that you need to walk!

Yepp! sleep coaching is on the watch 4 too! So is the watch 5 pro’s key route import and tracking feature :3
Also, the Exynos in the watch 4/5 is more advanced than the new snapdragon w5 (and 5 plus even). Those use cortex a53 cores from 2012. Yep, 2012.
The exynos uses a55, much better. It also has the same coprocessor as the snapdragon + chip (the cortex m5 iirc).
Funnily enough, the pixel watch is rumoured to use an OLDER exynos :/
And the best part is you can use pretty much every ‘Samsung exclusive’ feature on a non Samsung device, it’s android after all. (ECG and bp, plus third party camera control app…)

Furthermore, will ask you to start moving because you have been sitting/none movement for a while. Pretty easy fix actually, just silence notifications on the watch or disable tracking/gps on watch

🤣 the standing discussion has me rolling. With my Galaxy watches I have gotten close to 2 days, but I also usually have all of my devices fairly dim. I've done this for so long that even on dim settings, the displays look bright to me. I only adjust the brightness when I'm outside or in harsh lighting conditions. This practice has helped the battery life of my watches, my Flip 4, and I now even do it with my laptop. This was a practice that I started due to a work computer giving me blinding headaches every day and I found out it was because the brightness was on 100% - I tested to see how low I could go on brightness without feeling like my eyes were straining to see.

Perhaps a niche use case, but I'd really, really like to see Andrew's take on the Watch5 pro, particularly from the hiking and climbing perspective. As a climber and hiker myself, and also with a Garmin Venu 2, the Watch5 Pro looks like a truly compelling option and for me, Andrew seems like the guy on the team who the watch would be most targeted for, as he uses a lot of the "Garmin-esque" features such as the GPS tracking. I also agree that Wear OS watches definitely feel so much better than the Garmins, but Garmin is simply in a league of its own when it comes to activity and GPS tracking, something that I'm super excited to see Samsung have a go at toppling.
Edit: On the Venu 2 battery life, I use my Venu 2 similarly to my previous Fossil Sport (with custom watch faces which draw more power, AOD, always on heart rate and pulse oximeter, sleep tracking, etc) and I got around 10 hours on the fossil sport. I can make it through about 2 days with the Venu 2, and if I turn off some features I can go much longer, as Andrew was saying.

I think the Watch5 Pro also has a golf edition, and the bug you're facing Adam, that's quite common, but I only had it happen when I cleared the cache and data of my Play services because my Google Pay was tripping on my phone, which caused the watch to permanently loose a BT connection and had to re-pair it all over and set it up again.

Great discussion. Especially about the battery life. The battery life of the Watch 4 was the thing that kept me from buying it. Favourite was the Fenix 7, but they are quite expensive and less of a Smartwatch (currently have the Fenix 3 HR). Then I saw the Huawei Watch GT3 Pro, it's more a Smartwatch with a brilliant display and also proper battery life but lacked some core functions I wanted (mainly Spotify and Whatsapp). So I think I will give the Watch 5 Pro a shot.

Remember that after the first Galaxy Watch in 2017 and the two Watch Actives in 2019, the Watch3 in 2020 was the first to feature a rotating bezel. Last year was the only year Samsung announced a GW model with a digital and physical bezel in the same year. I've heard of three to five days.
    Will it get better?

If I let it get to 100% it usually makes it all day, tracks sleep and through a 30-45 minute workout before work. Just got the Watch 5 and looking forward to seeing if it's any better but as long as I keep an eye on the battery periodicaly through the day I have yet to have it run out of power on me.

I have not had issues reaching a day and a half on watch 4, and I always use sleep tracking and continuously have HR and oxygenation on. Not everyone climbs rocks or has similar life patterns, that is what makes comparisons on battery life experiences like assuming weather conditions of tomorrow based on the weather today. Sure, it might be similar, but might be completely different. Our lifestyles are different, and so are our experiences with our devices.
