My husband told me to watch how close his fingers were to the bit. I knew what to expect but I still SCREAMED when I saw. That was really scary and will fuel my intrusive thoughts for the foreseeable future.
And this is how not to use a shaper. Please check out some other videos to learn about fence placement and guards. This is an example of a guy that's done it a million times and has gotten away with it. That one time will severely alter your life.
Thank you for posting this. I have recently upgraded from a router table to shaper so I can use all the information I can get. But isn’t that a whole lot of cutter sitting out there with no protection around it?
I always thought a "Raised Panel" was called such because the panel is actually higher than the rail and stile when assembled. I understand the use of the back cutter but then the panel is no longer raised above the frame as opposed to machining only one side of the panel thereby allowing it to sit higher than the frame when assembled...
adding to my query; it looks ike you do have a rub collar set under that panel cutter, may I ask what diameter the rub collar is? That makes a lot of sense especially when cutting the rounded cathedral arch. Thanks.
Dwayne video on cutting panels. How many CFM's are you running for your vac system it seems to really keep up very well. Great! demonstration on shaping panels.. Your work is inspiring... Thank you...
Mr. Eller, do you mind telling me what you use on your work surfaces to to keep them so nice?........... I have been using an auto wax but I want to see what other people are using as well. Thank you
You made a beautiful door, Now I was a shaper. And By the way I get that same back lash about my fingers being so close to the saw all the time, I guess people are just to worried about our digits lol
I don't understand how you control the depth of the back cut when you make cut the curved side of the panel. It looks like you are freehanding it, but when you show the inside of the door it looks like the cut was guided. Is it just the hand of the master? Thanks!
Band saw or jig saw after tracing the pattern onto the panel cutting freehand. Or using pattern template jig with band saw. Or using a router table or shaper with bearing /guide with template/pattern jig.
Can you show me or tell me where I can find a template to make those doors. Specifically where I can find a pattern to make the rounded top. All of my raised panel doors are made with all square panels. Using just straight cut rails and styles.
Voyeuristic comments are always in the best interest of public saftey. Would love to your work ... lol. Obviously woodwork is safe and never is a cut made that is unsafe. Thanks for pointing it out.
Raj, the two are similar, but there are significant differences. The main one is that a shaper is designed to spin much larger diameter and heavier cutters which results in higher quality work. It can also do the shaping in one pass on most pieces, which saves a lot of time. The shaper's bearings are also designed to handle significant loads, which a router's lightweight bearings cannot handle. And that's why router panel raising bits have such smaller diameters. Finally, a router is a very forgiving machine because of the much smaller sized bits. If you decide to get a shaper, read up on their operaton and pay attention to safe operating rules. The gentleman here has more experience operating these heavy machines than you or I will ever have, and he appears to be comfortable operating without guards. That's his choice, but something that is not shared with everyone.
This is all wrong. The rub collar goes on top of the cutter not beneath it. Look in the manual, that's what it says. Secondly they give you a guard to put over the cutter and he did not use it. Lastly you should not be wearing a ring or watch while working around machinery. My complaint is not against his workmanship its about a lack of safety.
I know I'm late to the party but I agree with you completely. This was more a video on how not to use a shaper. Some of these Old-Timers that I've been doing it for so long throw safety out the window.
WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!.....YOU MUST BE CRAZY HAVING YOUR HANDS SO CLOSE TO THAT CUTTER. ITS SHOCKING THAT YOU STILL HAVE ALL OF YOUR DIGITS........YOU SHOULDN'T BE MAKING VIDEOS LIKE THIS. YOUR TEACHING YOUNGER PEOPLE THAT DON'T KNOW BETTER THAT THIS PROCEDURE IS OKAY.......ITS NOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
A shaper like either model he has run in the thousands of dollars. I believe most of the people that have them have a little experience and realize the dangers of any blade. Have you considered that there are many tools far more dangerous than this shaper, such as a chainsaw, ladder or automobile?
His shop, his fingers, his rules. Don't blame his video for anyone elses ignorance. If your old enough to own a shaper, your old enough to decide what feels safe to you.
My husband told me to watch how close his fingers were to the bit. I knew what to expect but I still SCREAMED when I saw. That was really scary and will fuel my intrusive thoughts for the foreseeable future.
Great and efficient way to make the inside of cabinet doors more elegant. I don’t use my backcutters after watching this. Great video, sir!
I always ran my doors with the power feed, but pops did the french doors.

Beautiful work sir I am learn something new for your vedios
This method is called styling and reeling
1, 2, 3, 4 and done: Less effort than with a table router.
I just acquired a Delta, so I’m watching videos on how to use it. Thank you.
What size cutter do you use for your raised panels

Good works I need such cutters, where can I get them

Thanks for the video. I'm just getting started in making Raised Panel doors. Keep on makin' these videos my good man!
There are better videos. Bottom line
Mr Dwayne please tell me where you bey that cutter bit and what is the name of it thank you sir
Hello Dwayne. I'm ready to buy my first shaper! Thanks for your video. You explain it very well.
for the starter, find a combination 5in1 machine, to save space and cost
quick question, arent you afraid of kickback from the cutter when pushing through on the arch edge of that panel? just looks too easy :)
Great video. Is that a Grizzly shaper. if so is that the 1 1/2 or 3 HP unit.
good question. Im about to order the g1035 1 1/2 hp the 3 hp too powerful for my elec. setup unfortunately,,
You can tell at cabinets he is a master
What is the models of your shapers ?
Mr. Eller, do you mind telling me what you use on your work surfaces to to keep them so nice?........... I have been using an auto wax but I want to see what other people are using as well. Thank you
No need any wax just need good design blade with 6500 RPM spindle that will make good finish and you only need to put 200 paper.
@@harizummer3233 you didn't answer the question. He was asking about the top of the shaper not the finish on the panel.
Hi and nice video etc, are you using a bearing under the cutter head?
Cheers
Curt

There is a roller bearing on the base{underside}of the profile block
Do you make panel door tosell
with a mould of same shape like the curved?
how do get to shape the board like that before you cut the raise panel?
Band saw or jig saw after tracing the pattern onto the panel cutting freehand. Or using pattern template jig with band saw. Or using a router table or shaper with bearing /guide with template/pattern jig.

How can one of those to Jamaica
Jesus! You still have your fingers. What happened to safety fences.
Great tip! Thx for sharing!
What name of the machine?
Kaha sai milaga yeh machine
Your hands sure are close to the bit, scary. Please put a guard on the machines.
Yup, my grandfather lost a couple digits on a shaper
Crazy way to use a shaper like this. Dangerous!
how do u feel about the central machinery shapers they sell at harbor freight?
You have obviously made your choice between safety and disposable fingers. Scary.
Voyeuristic comments are always in the best interest of public saftey. Would love to your work ... lol. Obviously woodwork is safe and never is a cut made that is unsafe. Thanks for pointing it out.
How thick is the door?
Is that a 1 1/2 hp shaper
buth the shaper is just like a router ..whats the difference?

Thanks for another informative video Dwayne.

Most shops run a raised panel head above the panel. So if you are running a bearing its below the cutter.
We only used bearing on the top arch but used aluminium strip under cutter when doing straights
this is cool. big man. thanx
You should be encouraging proper safe use of this machine. You have inexperienced viewers watching.
You said everything twice bout two times.
I want to two prices plz order me
I like it
