Wow Daryl.. You're everywhere in RUclips. Good on you introducing people Malaysian food. Love yong tau foo. Its light and quick. I prefer to hv more veg in my Yong tau foo. The one in Ampang is good...always full during lunch time. This is making me hungry 😋
If you are accompanied by a local host (not guide) then you find best food and visit best places. This is another example of a good local host, who knew the secret corners of the area.
There other too that popular like Ampang Yong Taufu at Ampang Point. There also not so bad. I also like the lady finger, bringal stuff beside the taufu stuff.
wow when you are old and your sons have families of their own, you will reflect on this time in history and say "remember when that big pandemic hit the world? we were in malaysia having a blast of a time eating marvelous good food without a care in the world."
Yong tau foo, cheong fun, dim sum r a wonderful Malaysian Chinese comfort food. Unfortunately, there r limited 'halal' certified food operators. D fruit rojak is my fav too. A simple sumptuous meal.
Oh dear .. the Hakka people are a dialect group and were originally from Northern China but due to civil wars and stuff, they became somewhat like internal refugees and settled across the various provinces in Southern China. The name Hakka literally means guest people (hak = guest , ka = family). Hakka cuisine uses a lot of processed, dried and preserved vegetables and meat, as a result from the initial nomadic phase of migrating from North to South to stretch out and keep what little food they could get. Yong tau foo is an evolution of that, where you'd take a relatively available but low quality type of freshwater fish like carp and process it with starch and flavouring, and stuff it into vegetables for an economical and filling meal. Contrast that with the coastal Cantonese cuisine which emphasises fresh, best, expensive ingredients (because it was more abundant there) and the cooking style is more towards steaming and sauteing to showcase the ingredient. Just saying that there are many variations to Chinese food due to historical and geographical reasons. The fruit rojak is a truly Malaysian fusion dish - using local Malay fruits especially the sour kedongdong, guava, pineapple and green mango, the style of dressing raw fruit with a thick sauce is a Southern Indian influence and the prawn paste is a Chinese central coastal (Fujien) ingredient. In the upcoming Disney Mulan movie, the round building where she lives is a tanka, a uniquely Hakka architectural style which is almost like a fortress.
One thing I realised most westerners hate tofu and obviously the rojak due to the prawn paste smell.Glad you all enjoyed it tho, well at least the yong tau foo.
The simple taste (but i can understand if some think it's bland) of Yong tau Foo dish is like taking a break from all those overpowering dishes. I'm a non-chinese local and sometimes i can get tired of curries.
I love stuffed chillies than the lady fingers because its more spicy and crunchy! But i dont like yong tau fu because fish ball and fish cake everywhere to be found! 😂 next video try Indian food 😋 i love curry and poori a good match ❤
i never seen stuffed red chillies before, usually green chillies.... in malay cuisine especially kelantanese there's also stuffed chillies called solok lada, its chilli is a special kind of green chilli, and the fish paste are mixed with grated coconut
Nice video Jones family...glad you enjoyed the food there and Ive been there once.... btw Im not a youtuber but kinda little active in meeting up with foreign traveller youtubers before....I met up with BEER FOR BREAKFAST at least 4 times and featured in one of their video...Met up CYCLING CANADIAN Mr Douglas once and hopefully again when he back here...and finally REMOTE DARREN once at street and might arrange a meal coming soon.....
