  • quick overview, engine, mounts, camshafts, turbo, and more are in the mail or here, lets go over the plan for the engine and turbo and upgrade path and next video will more than likely be prepping engine and bolting in engine and trans after cam and engine prep to measure for driveshaft, crossmember, and start cutting up nose for turbo fab.

    Companies donating to Matt is like a double edged sword. While they gain publicity by him talking about what they send and him using it, he can also call them out on their bullshit when testing on the dyno lmfao. Absolutely love how honest Matt is about what he finds. Looking forward to this project!

      Snake oil is a good classic thing that has been arond forever, some things have a need on one part and now granfarthered in on every other build, palcebos are just that, if the person buys it and are happy no skin off there nose, it works but doesnt make it better either.

      Trying to drive a manual gasser that fast is absolutely insane. Whenever you take a 64 year old car and run 7 times the stock power through it with a suspension design that was antiquated in the 1970s, it's a miracle he's going faster than those guys back in the day.
      There is no excuse for f bomb though.

      I really appreciate Matt's realistic approach to modifying the LS based engine and getting proven results that dont break the bank. Super stoked for this car and I want all of the greasy morsels you have to throw out. Would be Awesome to see you guys in the same video

    • @munkysthrowpoop
      @munkysthrowpoop 5 лет назад +4

      GixxerDad 600 only thing is Cletus probably has more into his trans/rear than he will have in his whole car. Also a lot of the parts he is using, other than the block, aren’t cheap parts. They are just left overs from Leroy.

    • @SloppyMechanics
      @SloppyMechanics  5 лет назад +11

      Yes absolutely it would be fun, I talk to him about once a week and I like what he is doing. Specially just having fun and learning, cheap motors and lots of motivation, staying positive these are all things I try to get people to do and he has them all. I hope to learn some stuff from him hopefully throughout this build, I like that he isn’t scared of the gen3 4.8, maybe I would like to think I have something to do with that lol

    • @freedomfox8183
      @freedomfox8183 5 лет назад +4

      @@SloppyMechanics you definitely do and you could tell he didn't care about the difference I think he likes the challenge of going fast as possible with the smaller engine anyway.. plus you know he'd be down...

    • @freedomfox8183
      @freedomfox8183 5 лет назад +4

      @@munkysthrowpoop yes the trans and rear is a big help but Matt could pick up a powerglide for a lot cheaper and with a Ford 8.8- 9in be right there it just might not hold quite as much power as his trans but it will definitely be able to hold more than enough for what they are doing and Cleetus ran the trans that came with until it couldn't hold it anymore it was literally stopping them from getting the times they could have..everyone has parts lying around though and there are very few parts from Leroy on that car and the ones that are like injectors will be updated soon as they are maxxed ...can you really blame him for a going with that trans and rear it takes one less headache out of the equation, also trans and rear is more then Cleetus's whole rest of his build as well... and if somebody offered it to Matt I don't think he would turn it down either and Matt puts the same type of parts in his engine around the similar price, that's the general point of the build is to use leftover parts whenever possible and junkyard engines I'm sure Matt has things lying around that he will be using as well it's still gunna be fun and similar ET's I'm guessing from his plans .. Just let it be a fun opportunity... I've seen $5, 000-$10,000 budget turbo LS builds take down demons already just cuz something is 10-15 times more doesn't make it 10-15 times better ... Matt knows how to do the most with the least if anyone does...

    • @wobblysauce
      @wobblysauce 5 лет назад

      Also that he is learning tuning as well as building motors, having the ability to take out the trans/diff issues alows him to focus on what works and what does not.
      When things dont work, it is just a junk motor sell for scrap and recoop some of the cost and over time that will happen less and less.

    I had the 1841P in a LS1 4th Gen with like 11.0:1 compression, it was rowdy and fun but only made good power from 3500-7000. If I were to do it all again, I'd get the SS2 and tool around with a bunch more average torque. YMMV for a race car. I look forward to the pushrod comparison though, I've wanted to see what the horsepower cost of PR deflection is.

    On the parts upgrade plan, raffle off the part, keep enough money to buy the new part then donate the remainder to a charity. For the subscribers we either win a part from the build or we donate to a charity. It's a win win for everybody.

    Thick wall push rod will gain 5-10hp @higher rpms, they've aldi done that yes on the spintron, it's petty cool to watch how the valve twain reacts at rpm

    So no one takes you up on the dyno evaluation of the push-rods? Hmmm...A major company wanting to know what happens makes it more interesting.

      They’re scared something will happen and people will never buy pushrods again, Elgin isn’t scared

      surprised in a good way that elgin is reaching out, more of a parts supplier then a direct sales company. Be interesting to see what they send since I know they offer a .137 wall 3/8 pushrods but if your planning on swapping on the dyno I'm guessing your sticking to their .110 5/16" might want to test them on the SS3 cam first.
