THIS is a writer who understood Superman. What a storyline. I wish movie and TV writers would understand that Superman is defined by his humanity, not the epic fights he has with his powers.
It’s why he works so well with Batman! The contrast between them, Superman the light of hope that believes we can be better if we just try, Batman who’s seen what animals humans can become and how deep into the darkness we can fall
@@jamesvivian2855 Fuck yeah, dude. Do you have a favorite Batman story and favorite Superman story? If so I'd LOVE to hear your recommendations man. You obviously have read some good shit. If I could recommend two myself, I'd recommend Paul Dini's work for both characters.
Batman: War On Crime
Superman: Peace On Earth
Both aspects are good.
What makes this story more powerful is how Superman restraints himself from beating up the abusive man. He knows well he could kill him with a back hand slap, but he chooses to send him to the police instead
I love how absolutely furious superman is drawn to be but restrained himself for the kids sake
So sweet. I love this Superman story, but I think it's pretty hilarious that Superman just decided to casually walk along the street.
Superman’s just like that bro, he’d probably read the newspaper and have a cup of coffee at a random cafe
Not the first time he did it in costume, look up Superman: Grounded I think this comic is the title called.
@@nexusprime2487 Nah, the one in the video is Superman: All-Star
Yo I was about to say so sweet lol
It was a hole year long storyline he walked a cross the US helping people when he came into town
Superman is so pure. He saved a girl from ending her life and he saved a boy from his abusive father. Superman may be an alien but he’s more human than any other human.
That kind of has always been the point of him since they started out with the whole being raised by his earth parents. It's not some new or obscure fact right?

I’d love to see Hollywood give us moments like this in Superman movies. This. Him taking to a suicidal woman. These moments are what make Superman.
this doesn't sell with retarded movie goers
and incompetent morons are given the task of writing the story
batman comforting a child? - forget it, enjoy that shitty warehouse fight from snyder.
superman talking to suicidal woman? - not a chance, here's a superman who has no impulse control and even kents tell him to screw humans and don't help them.
Hollywood can't do that. They've gotta tear down all the great heroes because their stories make us aspire to be better and help us see how fake and hypocritical all of them tend to be.
Agreed, but Hollywood, the cess pool of cynicism and selfishness that it is, are too afraid to write characters who are both powerful and genuinely good. It's too "unrealistic" to them.
@@Foxmagik That's not it, it's purely practical.
A movie has a set runtime and it needs to take advantage of all of it to develop its plot. It rarely can stop and have small unrelated moments like that
Homelander did the suicidal woman one, he did talk her out of it too
This is definitely a nice little Superman story. While abuse is definitely bad, it's nice that Superman cares enough about this little boy being abused to get involved without resorting to violence. Superman even gives the boy his phone number to call him if he needs to talk to someone. Superman showing that he cares is the true definition of his character.
But Superman doesnt even carry a phone with him so...
@@youtubestudiosucks978 Superman has a phone, super hearing, and can fly fast. There's literally no problem.
This is the exact type of story I love seeing with Superman. It's not impressive that he has immense strength, durability, speed, and overall powers. It's impressive that despite *having* all that unfathomable strength, he still does the morally correct thing, steps in to situations that others would see as beneath them, and goes the extra mile to make sure everybody is okay. When Superman lifts a mountain, I yawn. When he sleeps in a sun for ten thousand years and emerges as a literal golden god, I roll my eyes. But when he has all the strength in the universe, and finds a suicidal girl about to jump off a building, he *sits down to talk to her and listens sincerely to her problems,* that, THAT to me, is what defines Superman. It's not the surface level demigod that is Kal'El that people care about, but rather the beacon of humanity beneath those muscles that is Clark Kent.
Despite Superman not having exactly the same morals as Batman, he had enough humanity and common sense to not just outright go Homlander on the father, and instead just grabbed him and took him to jail
Agree
Stop comparing superman with Homelander already. You bozos
@@hellatze I never said it was MY type of humanity. If I was superman, I would have painted the whole house red with his insides. But unfortunately that's not how the world nor the justice system works.
You do realize Superman is defined by his morality, right?
He has been dealing with this kind of stuff for way Longer than batman.
@@greyson2344 and you're not a superhero you're just another murderer bro yeah sure you had a reason to attack the man for attacking his family but if you're going to literally go homelander on him you don't know the meaning of being Superman in the first place and you shouldn't deserve to be
Look at Superman's expression when he confronts the abusive father. Few supervillains could make him that angry, and it just shows that Superman sees domestic violence an injustice as big, or bigger than mass destruction.
I noticed that too. He's made gentler faces to Armed robbers holding people hostage at gun point. Than the look he gave the dad.
I see this as a personal thing, all his life Superman was loved by his parents who made him the man he is today, caring and a hero. And the evil guy was beating who was supposed to be his family, he was beating his wife and his kid and did not care about it, Superman saw a little kid who was punched by a much bigger adult man, a coward
This story made me smile it show how Superman family love him and how brave a kid stand up to a father coward at beat up his family in anger. But Superman have the willpower not to beat the coward into the ground and show a other way of dealing with a bully.
I think this is a really nice depiction of Superman, sadly mosu comic writers ignore. Notice how Superman, although a big funny, is walking casually amongst the people--being on their level; it's nice to see him not always fighting crime and seeing what he does when he's not Clark Kent or being a crime fighter. And, how he isn't always fighting against some space alien or large monster: it could be someone from the real everyday world. I think what I like most about this comic is how he hands the kid his number, and even offers to answer a call once a day from the kid. It's a risk of finding out his true identity, sure, but he takes it because he shows genuine concern of how the kid will grow up. He understands trauma and criminals aren't born from hell or no where; they start from broken homes. That's how you write Superman: someone who wants to do the right thing.
The reason Most modern superman comics focus on alien threats and gods is because of people who don’t even read superman comics called him lame and weak. The writers out way too much stock into the opinion of basement dwellers and anime watchers.
@@Chiefteeth1 I get that. You have to appeal to a wider audience, and in the process, you sacrifice key character traits--which took years to develop. That's the unique thing about the comic medium: we've had these characters for decades, and in that time, their personalities and philosophies are molded to something real. In most modern iterations of Superman, he seems so out of touch with humanity, or is easy to turn corrupt without a second thought. I totally get why evil Superman is a popular sub genre (even I'm into Injustice the game), but it does defeat the purpose of his character a bit
@@Chiefteeth1 As an "anime watcher" I say you are 10 levels of wrong. I would like to see Superman as well as the other Justice League do things like this, It reminds me those episodes where this little boy and his friends saved Batman from the from The Penguin and after that started their own deceive agency another one had Batman save a teen from the life of crime by not beating him up and sending him to his therapist the episode end with Batman finding the same young man again but this time he found himself a legit job, and last but not least, Batman like Superman fought a man who's an abusive father who stolen a stealth suit to abduct his own daughter.
So yeah as an "anime watcher" I don't need every second for characters like Goku to fight some god and find a new form, I rather like seeing the characters on their down times it helps build up for what the next action arc.
My favorite episodes in Pokemon are when they show what Team Rocket does when they aren't bothering Ash and wind up running into him anyway. lol

Batman: (5 straight minutes of punching.)
Moonknight: I have good news and bad news. The good news is that your dad will never hit you again. The bad news is that you no longer have a dad.
Omni-man: (speaking to the dad) No no no, your form is all wrong. Hit him like this.

Homelander: don’t be a wuss kid
Well my guess is Omni does an actual demonstration and....kaboom
I'll stick with Spider-Man one cause I will do the same when I see someone hurting a child especially an abuser.
In the comic
Moon Knight beat up a abusive dad of a boy.
The dad goes to report moon Knight
And a police officer shows him photos of criminals scarred and marked by moon knight with the symbol of the moon
It's one of those stories that makes Superman, Superman. He saves everyone he can no matter how small .
I REMEMBER this comic. It was some issue where Superman was taking a cross country road trip through America on foot. And this story always stood out to me as it was heartbreaking to see this kid suffer, but cathartic to see his dumb ass biological father arrested.

Did he have a nonbiological father...
@@DSan-kl2yc P is probably indicating that the kid's dad wasn't much of an actual father (as fathers are meant to care for their children & not be abusive) so only counts as a father in the biological sense.
@@DSan-kl2yc Many people do
@D. San
Usually, stories like this have abusive step parents instead because no one likes to think biological parents could be horrible to their own children. The evil stepmother trope exists for a reason. They may have been praising the comic for acknowledging that there are fathers out there who violently beat their own sons without trying to soften the blow by going “Oh, he wasn’t really his father.” The guy in the comic is the kid’s father, but he’s not his daddy for sure.

Me too. I find it sad some kids get abused like that when they don’t deserve it.
I always get teary eyed whenever stuff like this happens, in real life and in comics/books 😔❤
The greatest thing about Superman is that he's a personification of what we has human beings have the potential to be with good morals, compassion, and the knowledge of when to take action. I feel like those that dislike Superman or feel his character is unrealistic, outside of very common fictional things, are folks that don't believe in themselves or others to be this kind of person. We need people to believe again that being this kind of person, is and will be possible. It just starts with you
Heroes are traditionally aspirational, and extraordinary thereby. But it seems sometimes that people do not wish to aspire to greatness in their lives any longer, and resent those who do.
This right here, is the best Superman. One that is truly kind and caring. Understands he's a godlike being, but isn't egotistical like the one you'll find in Justice League: War.
Man, don’t remind me. He gatekeeps Wonder Woman to the point of threatening to kill Cyborg when he accidentally throws her into a car when his body is still slightly out of control.
God loves (superman)
Man kills (lex luthor)
Bro, imagine if Batman was there instead of Clark.
He would've gotten a new robin, and wife.
Dad would be a vegetable
Batman: As long as i don't kill him I'm fine.
Stories like this really showcase that before being Superman, the last man from Krypton Is Clark Kent first.
No problem Is too small for him, be it Brainiac attacking Earth for them 67th time, be a little boy needing help with his abusive father.
It also showcases how people are garbage for not calling the police. Superman brings this up later in the issue.
@@SuperboyLilly Exactly, he goes out of his way to point out that they didn't need him to solve this.
This is why I love Superman. He cares about everyone at all times. He has taken so much responsibility on and wants to help all those around him. Superman's greatest power isn't his strength, durability, flight, heat vision or anything the yellow sun grants him, it was what he was taught by his parents; to be a good man.
Superman could've finished him in 1 blow but took the highroad and got him arrested and you can even see the anger and rage in his eyes. That takes a lot of emotional control and a strong mentality to do that and that's respectable
If anything Batman would sure give him a deserved beating, Superman wasn't taking a high road it's just he knows he can't accidentally kill someone.

Honestly big blue is just the shining light in the dark. People call him over powered or overrated and whatever but there’s a reason he’s the great hope of DC
He can easily do whatever he wants, he’s pretty much a god, but he chooses to do what’s best. No matter what
Not only he’s the man of steel, but the man with the heart of gold. And that’s a fact ladies and gentlemen.
It’s stories like these that remind me that Superman doesn’t exist just to save people. He exists to inspire hope
The Forest Grump walk across the states was weird, but it's a nice Superman story nevertheless. I like when they dive into tough topics, like the suicide one. A story like that is helpful during the pandemic, and even now with the mental health epidemic surging.
It shows despite his super powers he can be human too

Superman walking across all states... That's an award-winning graphic novel waiting to be sold out
The fact that he showed restraint and didn’t kill the man shows just how much of a good person he really is
Actually it doesn't take alot of restraint to stop yourself from killing a abusive father, when you consider the fact that there's far worse scum in the world.
The father getting caught by Supe instead of Batman is mercy by itself
Oh please a abusive father is the least of the kind of scumbag Batman fights.
@@robertkenny1201 that's because Bruce rarely comes across one, but if he did, we all know what would happen
@@user-xr3ul2xc1l Oh please Batman has had to face rapists, murders and child killers, I doubt he'd lose his temper over a abusive father and husband too much. The most I could see Batman doing to him is punching him a few times and possibly fracturing his arm before sending him to Jail. Batman wouldn't lose his cool over this jerk.
@@robertkenny1201 The point of the original comment is that batman would be far worse of a thing to come by than superman if you were am abusive or are an abusive parent etc.
Superman: does the right thing and gets the farther arrested and give the kid his number.
Batman: beats the farther within an inch of death and drops him of at the local precinct. Then ask the kid if he wants to be the next robin.
A hero doesn’t have to save the world sometimes it’s enough to help one person
Another great story of superman
I remember a story where Superman was playing with some guys basketball, and there was one of those guys is skinny and nobody get him in until Superman came and was deliberately defeated to get attention to the kid
..... What?
I think you wrote that wrong. I think you meant to say superman deliberately lost in a game of basketball against the kid.
@@HKtraidon yeah,Typing error
I love it when there's personal story like this for Superman, he's strong but not every story' need to have him punching the enemy harder.
This is why all live-action superman adaptations got him wrong, superman is not good because of a sense of responsibility(that's Spiderman's memo), but because he wants to.
It's stories like this that shows why superman was written to begin with not all these "evil" variations, I may be more of a batman fan but that doesn't mean I can't admire the hope that superman brings
His very first story has him beating up a wife beater.
This is an older more mature but ya he does deal with this stuff.
Yep. There's room for dark storytelling - but if you are going to tell a story about Superman, exploring his 'dark side' is entirely missing the point of the character. But people now imagine that going dark with a traditionally sunny property is 'edgy' and 'daring' (notwithstanding the fact that everyone does this). A dark version of the Land of Oz? Of Archie Andrews's Riverdale with desaturated colors? What are they thinking?
And that’s why he’s the greatest comic book superhero
Superman is a really good person. So much power, even more heart to go with it.
To overcome you're flaws and not to give in to them in spite of the harsh realities of this cruel world is what makes superman not only an iconic hero, but a true hero as well.
God lord!
The absolute balls this guys has to engage superman like that...
Imagine Superman breaks into your home, and still yell at him after he sees you beat your son.
This is one of those moments when Superman isn’t smiling and is genuinely pissed off, yet it’s a moment Superman fans ignore and act like he has one emotion.
*“Maybe he’s just a guy trying to do the right thing”* -Vikram Gandhi
*“There he is, an alien among us. We're not alone”* -Neil deGrasse Tyson
When your superhero has finished all the main quest and has nothing to do
I feel like kids who are going through this are probably watching this. Whoever made this deserves some kudos.
This story not only shows me the pain of others but also shows me what hope can become of one person Superman is a beacon of Hope in the comic book universe and I'm impressed that he would go out of his way to save a little boy I mean who wouldn't and I know for damn well sure I would do the same thing if I was a Kryptonian
I think the fact that he didn’t crush the abuser makes us all know Superman is truly human; Kryptonian or not. He has humanity and will let the trusted law forces, etc deal with the situation instead of him dealing with it on his own.
He didn't even do that to a child killer he once uprheanded.
Imagine Clark and Bruce having a conversation about this and a mysterious bat creature is reported to have snuck into a jail and broken almost every bone in a single man’s body
When people say good heroes are not interesting characters, remember the little child that jumped to protect his mother from being hit
This is what superman is all about. He doesn't think of himself as a God among animals he's just another guy who happens to have the power to help others and chooses to do so.
If Batman was there: *brutally breaks every bone in the dads body*
Actually no, Batman has shown mercy to way worse scum then a abusive father, he once turned over a rapist to the police without even punching him once despite the victim committed sucide, and there are times when just arrested the Joker without punching him once.
This, to me anyway, is one of the most defining characteristics of Clark. Many superheroes needed sparks to start their careers. Bruce Wayne lost his parents at the age of 8 due to a thug, causing him to travel around the world to train himself to become the Batman; Peter Parker let a criminal get away and that guy killed his uncle, forcing him to use his powers to become Spider-Man; Oliver Queen got lost on a deserted island, and eventually escaped the island, becoming Green Arrow; etc.
Clark Kent didn’t need any of that. He was already a pretty decent guy before he learned of his powers. Had he been born a normal person, he probably would’ve still done what he could to help that kid. Just because he had powers doesn’t mean he’s a good person, that was put in place by the Kents. The DCAU and Smallville versions of Superman do really well with this.
As someone who suffered from abuse this hits home. Way too easy for the abused to think it's their fault, and the abusers always project their pitiful lack of self-restraint upon the people they abuse. If only more children could be saved from it.
Superman: "Go ahead. Tell me how I should've broken something."
Batman: "Okay. You don't need to be too dramatic. Apply pressure to these three little bones of their dominant hand. They can still work and won't be crippled, but they'll never make a fist again without thinking of you. The best part, nobody will believe them when they try accused you."
Superman: "...These three bones, right?"
Imagine all the abuse victims who wished they had a Superman.
I wish I had a Batman, or Punisher. Abusers should die, not get a slap in the wrist.

Damn, it’s rare seeing Superman that freaking angry. Good on him for restraining himself.
Not really he showed only slight less restraint when uprehending a child killer.
It could've been a lot worse. We all know Superman could've easily folded that man like a lawn chair. If you ask me getting arrested was the easy way out for him. Still though, this only shows how great Superman is. Sure he has his flaws, but who doesn't? He's called Superman not Perfectman.
It’s not just that he saves them; he gave the boy his number so he could call him. That’s true heroism.
I really like the more small-scale Superman rescues. Saving a plane full of people is cool, but talking someone out of suicide, or confronting an abuser, or helping a misguided criminal find his way - those kinds of stories better illustrate Clark’s humanity and kindness imo. It makes him more human, and shows his genuine, kind nature, without making him seem like a boy scout :)

It shows even when things get big he always does small things that make a real hero
Alternate ending: superman sends the abusive dad to go get milk
