    Son, I am a 60 year ole coal miner from West Virginia and I have never commented on your videos and I enjoy them very much, but after reading the comments and seeing that poor soul's one about losing his son and granddaughter and the out pouring of love and support from your viewers you should be very proud of the quality of people you attract to your show and it speaks volumes about your character. Thank you from West Virginia.

      My thoughts exactly you don’t find viewers of such like the VGG community! I’ve seen some comment about a loss on other channels and have the viewers comment saying the post was for attention etc and rip that person that posted their loss apart! It’s sad. It’s very pleasant to see such great heartfelt responses to that person who’s going thru what words can’t express! ❤❤❤❤

    We in the UK say: "keep going Derek" and work your magic on the interior. Being from the UK, I have never seen a Studebaker Champion before, but the car has the character of a bygone era and deserves to be reborn.

    For what it’s worth, I’d have to say keep going with the Studebaker. Since you aren’t going for a concourse restoration, it might be worth it to show how to do a budget friendly freshening up while using as much of the original pieces as possible. Something an “average Joe” might attempt.
    Also….don’t forget to pick up some furnace filters!!

      Ronmorris: My grandfather worked there from 1943 to 1956. For several years he hung doors. He drove his new '50 Champion until '73! He put on 43,000 miles. Unfortunately it became too rusty to drive as it was a rust belt car. Most 1950 cars,in South Bend,went to the junkyard by 1960.

    Derek, this is a piece of history and something that we won't see for much longer. It would be amazing if you keep it going with this project so people can see what it was like with the vehicles in the late 40s and early 40s

    • @moparman1962
      @moparman1962 5 месяцев назад +7

      Yes, we would very much like to see this old Studebaker Champion be mechanically restored to drive, handle and stop better than new, with a new interior and working radio, gauges, dash lights, new seals and then just drive her, to run errands, chase or go buy used parts, to go for a Sunday drive on camera and stop for ice cream, to some car shows, in some parades. She survived all these years and she was in better than average condition when you found her, she got you home. Stude's were such good cars, better than most in the 40's, people don't get to see them driving around these days and it's a real shame.

      It is actually very easy, not many people understand how it works. But practice does make perfect, and just like Derek did on this video, start out with lightest possible compound/pad combo to make sure you don't take too much off, but have the best result!

    • @saganworshipper6062
      @saganworshipper6062 5 месяцев назад +2

      You can get great deals on random doors, hoods, panels, etc from the junkyard to practice on. Who cares if they are a little banged up. That is what gave me the best practice. You can really learn a lot that way. Try different compounds and even see what it takes to completely burn through the paint to bare metal without a care in the world lol. Great for rattle can training as well.

Especially if the kids are getting into cars and have the same passion, its a great piece of history you can show them, and be proud of, I see a lot of your videos, talking about memories with your dad and grandfather working on particular vehicles.. let this Studebaker, and the work involved be in the fuzzy memories your children can keep after you're gone.

    My old man used to say the best car he ever had was a Studabaker Starlight Coupe. I appreciate a chance to see the inside and outside of this Studabaker, it reminds me of him. He was a B-29 crew chief during WWII and went on to become an Aeronautical Engineer. He would have been a fan of VGG as he had the confidence to fix anything and he wasn't one for frills but focused on practicality and minimizing expense. We didn't get a color TV until 1971..... Anyway, thanks for reminding me a bit about what the old man must have tinkered on as a younger guy.

    My folks had the exact Studebaker. Same color. I was born in 1947. Dad traded the 48 for a brand new 1953 Yellow Commander, 3 speed on the column, no heater no radio. But it had a pull out overdrive. No car 25:40 heater had it’s problem because we 3 kids in the back seat and mom holding a baby wrapped in blankets froze on the way to church. Dad would constantly scrape ice off the inside of the windshield. We lived in The mountains of Pennsylvania and the winters were brutal. I figured because dad survived Bastogne that PA winters were a walk in the park. Your Studda baker looks great!

    Having been born and raised in South Bend, Indiana, it makes the old ticker swell with sentimental pride to see that sweet ol' girl shining like a new dime! I would love to see you make her truly road ready with the aforementioned updates! After watching you go 10 rounds with the Caddie, which was full of bad ideas and broken dreams, it's always fun to take a swig of Vice Gripterine, swish it around, and then have that fresh all-day simplicity of a 1948 vehicle! Thank you for what you do, and Merry Christmas!!

    Derek you have an unbelievable knack for making old junk look great on a budget. That is real talent, not just throwing money and new things at the problem. Seeing old paint come around is very satisfying and keeps these old rigs around for the future and for everyone to actually enjoy (not just look at in a garage or museum!)

    First - Thank you for representing America and community so well. Your heart for others is priceless. You and your family are highly valued and greatly appreciated. Second - Please do make the Buick and Jessica's smile shine. That would be great to see! (And please let us, the VGG community, know what we can do to help the families in your area who are hurting and in need.)

    Derek, love you and your families videos! My 20 year old son tuned me in when I was using 1k and 2k clear. 2k don't spray without suit or fresh air mask. Causes lung issues including asthma. Can penetrate any exposed skin.

    Derek love the Studebaker and would love seeing this brought back to life and safe for a goin to town rig.
    And I agree 1,000,000% with your statement that “you do you and don’t worry about what anyone else thinks “.

    I really wouldn't mind a series on this or any car. Kinda like the small block series you did awhile back and now the Duster series. It's nice to have some continuity through a project every now and again. You're always very good about bringing different and fresh vehicles in but every once in awhile a series is nice too.

    Awesome as always, I watched this multiple times with my wife and she loved it, although she kept saying it needed Fozie & Kermit. We think there should be more work on the Studebaker just to show how much can be done on what some would call junk or a lost cause. Keep doing what you do and stay safe!

    My 51 was butter yellow with maroon rims. Not sure who was in charge of Studebaker's color schemes. I am glad you tried for a color close to factory stock. The white walls set it off. I did exactly what you did with my dog dish hubcaps. A fresh coat of silver every so often kept them looking good. I wish now I had kept the rims maroon. I painted mine black.
    The job you did and the dramatic improvement makes me think this old soldier deserves to be back on the road. You can make a lot of memories especially with your kids riding along. If your experience is like mine, you will get all sorts of looks and comments. It was a great experience!

    Your run of green vehicles over the last year gave me the push to finally get myself one, always wanted a green car. Found a 1962 Falcon June this year that had sat in a shed since 1984, she’s back on the road as of last week. Ever in Australia and the family needs a runabout, it’s yours for the taking. All the best

    I'm starting to get into older cars (late 40s to early 70s) now and since my dad actually owned a Studebaker back in his high school days (50s), I'm really enjoying this one you are working on here. It's becoming a real beauty and I really hope you continue the restoration - not too customized, but really beyond just a "going to town rig" level - and I look forward to seeing where you take us next. Thanks.
