@PBR Streetgang Well I'm not the only one who saw him release every fish..At least two or three for the table..To each his own..But I love fishing for dinner too..You right..
You're very kind to those other anglers, John ... nice of you to share your tackle. I'd love to cast an olive over white deceiver (with short trace of single strand wire) to those fish that were following your fish almost to the sand. I've caught tons of albies on fly down in NC, but there is nothing like a robust bluefish. My favorite.
"Take whatever you want, plugs..jigs" Monster gentlemen you are sir! It's more fun with company, especially when the choppers sit in close. A good day is cut up bucktails, slashed plugs and rods nearly broken from the fight. A kind of fellowship that cant be purchased .
Maybe. Saturday night the tip of my rod dipped violently and remained dipped for 2-3 seconds. I picked it up to set the hook and NOTHING. No fishfinder rig, weight, nothing. 40lb mono leader.
Bcuz the blue fish hve teeth, there not like stripers. W/ stripers their teeth are like sand paper. Now the blues, they hve legitimate teeth. They can literally bite ur finger off! U need a steel leader wen u fish for them lol, cuz if u dnt U WILL LOSE UR GEAR!
Nice action! Nice sizes! Just another fun day fishing. I’m getting itchy. Heading out maybe catch some fish before the storm 😁👍. Your videos get me off the couch lol. Thanks again John for another fun video
Wow...last time I saw something like that was in the outer Banks in the early 80's...riding down the beach with my dad the blues were chasing speckled trout out of the water onto the beach...cool video..took me way back
Hey John, great video! Thanks for sharing! Unfortunately not a single blue made it up here to Maine this past summer. Good to know that they are around. I'm also impressed of your generosity....I try to do the same every chance I get. Happy Holidays!
if this video doesn't get you excited about hooking blues... 60lb 12" leader on 40lb braid with a stiffer rod would have been magic. have to really set them blues a little harder to keep them hooked. this was great though I really enjoyed and picked up on it. thanks John Skinner
Love these vids They keep me alive all winter in RI lol. To see those pogies be so close to you is awesome and watching the blue hunt them down, just awesome
Great job John I didn’t go out at all this year I been sick I even miss my hunting season also doing better now hope next year is a better season for fishing and hunting have a nice holiday
John Skinner Fishing Much appreciated bud! Its driving me nuts man, great videos! Crazy the size of Bluefish or Shad as we call them here in South Africa. Thanks man it is one hell of a view even if you turn up empty handed. Keep making those awesome videos bud! Regards Devin
John, Love your videos and always watch when notified. One thing, angle your camera slightly down to get less sky and more of what’s going on on the water and the beach. Again, not critical just something small. All the best and keep these great teaching tools coming.
As I explained in the narration, a larger profile plug would have worked great, but I wanted to use one single hook with a crushed barb to make it easier on the fish and me. The rod was already rigged with exactly that (a bucktail) when the fish rolled in.
John what is that white line that looks like surf but I know it's not...is that just a cloud line or what ? Dieing of curiosity...I don't know how I've never seen this video before...absolutely Sick!!!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing thank you for replying back to me. I went to jones beach to fish recently. I only catch few sea robin but i think longisland have many good beach to fish
By the time these guys start heading back from the Portsmouth NH/ Kittery ME area it is common to catch dozens of 15-17 lb blues every day. They are a great game fish and put up quite a fight. Just be sure to use a steel leader-they will bite right through mono-and watch the fingers when removing a hook or plug. The teeth are razor sharp!
I have a friend hates to share any tackle I mean not even a gulp....lol I share with strangers if a certain color gulp is hitting and I have help yourself .
Hey John. Love your books and videos. I bought a Penn Slammer 3 5500 in the spring and have caught a bunch of fish with it. I have no complaints. Just wondering if you feel the same as I see you're fishing with one here at one point. I've read some negative posts out there on them but I haven't experienced any issues. Thanks very much!
Also, What is that long horizontal line of whitish color in the far background? I just looked up in Google earth and long island sound shows that it is like a huge lake and not in the Oceanside would that be correct?
I was wondering if my Penn Spinfisher 8ft 17-30 pounds was enough for the long island surf for blues and stripers? By the way, I love your vids there always fun and very informative.
John - you ever use Berkeley fireline? I have heard you mention it before but I’ve never seen it in your videos. I was wondering what test you suggest. Trying to see if it improves casting distance as advertised.
Yes. It's heat-fused, not braided. A little thicker than braid, and very trouble free. It's what I had my kids use when they were 10 years old and no knots. It's great if you don't mind it being a little thicker.
It’s definitely north shore but John never tells. It’s not Sunken Meadow and it’s not Wildwood. Not sure what other north shore beaches have public access.
They are quite delicious. Most people who do t eat then say they don’t because that’s what they think they are supposed to say. Other than the bones they are quite delicious
Hey John. I am fairly new to saltwater and am learning a lot from you videos... god stuff! I am a NJ surf fisherman. Do you have a specific tide that you like when targeting blues or stripers?

Whatever the reel holds. The exception would be for spools that hold a lot of line. For example I back my Van Staal 200 with mono, and put on 300 yards of braid.
John Skinner Fishing Well okay then,,,. For me a Penn reel and 200 yards. Van Staal reel is outta my zone John plus you always fish with Penn reels anyway. LOL. Thanks
Ok, tackle question. You're throwing a white bucktail. Do white bucktails imitate bunker? Why not a swimming SP minnow or something in the grey, blue, green color? I love your videos and I'm starting to learn the power of bucktails. TBH, I'm tired of buying expensive plugs and losing them to bad knots or bad casting technique (working on that). Why the white? is white just an all around awesome color?
I think the bucktail looks like a lot of things, but a nice bulky one does have a bunker profile. For that Northeast fishery, white never seems to be a bad color.
Saltwater Angler Amen. Here in northern CT hook sharpening and watching John fish blitzes in Feb. is almost agony. Can't wait to grab the bag, belt n waders and hit the surf.
Hey John I love your videos!!. What size reel would you consider when fishing from the surf or the canal? Is 6000 too small? I don’t want it to fail if I do get a 30 pounder ha ha. Keep up the great work!

Nice of you to offer your tackle. I don’t want to know where this is but what makes that area so good? Don’t notice any structure or anything.
Depth and current.

Hi John do you have any videos or can you do one on how you rig your rods and what knots you use to tie them ?
A bare weighted treble hook cast into that frenzy snag a bunker let it swim and hold on.. Reminds me of my days fishing the sound
John, Nice video... as always
They may not be the best tasting, but nothing fights like a bluefish !
How do you make ur chances for a blitz more possible?
Got to love big Blues nice going John no bass in the mix
Thanks John for another great video Just jealous of your BlueFish there size compared to our Taylor her in Australia .
Net fishermen and estuary degradation stuffed them in Australia. You should see how big pilchards and tailor grow in Oman.
John where is this exactly?
Hi John
I wanna know where is that beach?
Wat were these guys using that didnt catch?
They were probably casting for false albacore with small tins.
I would like to know why you chose the bucktail instead of a larger profile plug with all those bunker around......
As I explained in the narration, a larger profile plug would have worked great, but I wanted to use one single hook with a crushed barb to make it easier on the fish and me. The rod was already rigged with exactly that (a bucktail) when the fish rolled in.

water looks pretty clean. can you swim there ? asking as i am not sure where this is..
My favourite video 4 ever!
is 15lb mono strong enough to catch blues
Yes, but I would use at least 20# braid instead.
Wow this looks so awesome next season I’m gonna have to gas up my truck and hit the beach

Nossa, nunca tinha visto tanto peixe numa praia.
what weight bucktail was used for calm water like this? Once weight is good for rough water.
3/4-ounce.

50# fluorocarbon. I lose an occasional lure. I don't want to use wire.

a good video friend, and in what place of long island was that wonder
He says LI Sound north shore but it looks to me like Robert Moses Park Beach in the South Shore.
