    I like popper fishing, it's very interesting to see how the predators dive after the popper.

    Double down on treble removal, also for non harvest crimp down barb on single rear hook. BETTER FOR YOU AND THE BLUE.

    SS popper excellent plug. I ditch treble on belly, use single hook on tail and luv when blue blasts the plug 3-4 times before the hookup.

    That is my hands down favorite top water plug. I prefer that one (2 3/8oz.
    ) over the 1-1/2 oz or the large 3 oz. I like the white one best. I like the classic wooden poppers, but like you said the S/S casts a mile.

    Yes please, more Montauk and striper videos before you move. Going to miss those once you move to the sunshine state.

      I hear ya. Unfortunately I don't have much time left here on LI since I'm moving next week but I'll be doing plenty of freshwater bass fishing down in Florida lol. When I come visit back up here to LI I'll try to make more freshwater bass videos👍

    What beach on the south shore is this?

    Great video man! Can’t wait for next season. Those SS Polaris are magnets. I use that and 3.2oz loaded cordells with only single tail siwash. Cape beaches it wrecks and is hands down the best “send it” plug around. Tight lines!

    not a ton we can do about blues getting fouled. tale as old as time, really. stripers really get over the thrashing phase once they're out of schoolie size. for whatever reason bluefish have a tendency to shake a treble then rehook themselves, get hooked again while you're unhooking them, etc. this may be because they have teeth and are biting and shaking prey to chop it into manageable sizes, a flight reaction, probably both. they also have softer, oilier skin and smaller scales, allowing hooks to penetrate. sometimes you feel like you have a giant on and he's just hooked in the back and is pulling your line like he's a sled dog on a harness. just try and get a tool on their lips as quickly as you can, use heavy tackle so the fight is short, keep them out of the sand, and keep them in the water as much as you can. i have every barb in my entire collection crushed. bunch of reasons for that and i'm sure there are vids out there that guys can check out. blues are hearty, pretty sure that first fish will hopefully be ok once he rests.

    Dude - if you are targeting blues, remove the belly treble. 4 of the 5 fish you caught were hooked by the rear hook but injured by the treble.

    How did you hear about the blues being in the surf? Was it luck? Is there any way to get on the blues without going every day and putting in your time?

    • @jamesschlickoutdoors

      Got lucky I guess lol. Went there the day before and was catching blues every cast. So came back the next day with the gopro 🤙

    Nice video. What do you consider the best tides to fish ?

    • @jamesschlickoutdoors
      @jamesschlickoutdoors  2 года назад +1

      It's hard to really pin point a best tide because a lot depends on location, time of year, weather, and so forth. But a general rule I like to take into consideration is during the warmer summer months when water is warmer I like the incoming tide that brings in the cooler water and during the colder months the outgoing tide which flushes out the warmer waters after it warms up a little from the sun all day.

      If I have 4 hours ill fish 2 hrs before and after high tide. A lot of spots by me are too dead at low tide to fish from the shore

    Hey man I'm really tryna get into fishing on long island, what are some good rod recommendations? I usually like buying something quality in instant of something cheap even as a beginner for anything, I was looking on getting a st croix surf seage, any recommendations??

    • @Misadoo
      @Misadoo 2 года назад

      Just looking for something good all around, mostly looking to fish fluke or flounder, porgy, and maybe some heavier fish from time to time

    • @jamesschlickoutdoors
      @jamesschlickoutdoors  2 года назад

      Yeah I hear ya. It's better to get something that'll last good right from the start. I love St Croix rods and that surf seage rod is really nice rod. I'd say get the 9' so you can use it for fluke, stripers, blues. There's two models to choose, there's a moderate action and a moderate fast action. The moderate action will have a little more flimsy feel to it, where as the moderate fast will feel slightly stiffer. I use a moderate fast on my odm surf rod and love it. It's light enough feeling still for fluking yet still has that backbone to toss heavier lures in the surf. If a tackle shop near you carries these seage surf rods I'd check them out in person so you can feel them personally what feels better to you.
      Good luck out there and hope that helps!

    Those hooks are really nasty. Im against these artificial lures. Be a real fisherman and use regular hook and cut bait. Stop injuring the poor fish.
