Absolutely LOOOVVEEE your videos Mr. Skinner! Very VERY informational sir, I’ve learned so much more than I’ve already knew! I’m a avid fisherman and as a surfcaster and jetty fisherman myself I thought I knew a decent amount of knowledge until I’ve come across you Mr. Skinner!! Thanks for all the education, FOR FREE mind you, I have been so much more successful with my approach to surfcasting now a days rather than a couple months ago!! You sir are a LEGEND and i owe you almost all my 47 Striped bass this Fall Run of 2021! Lots of keepers and schoolies and a couple Grandmas and Grandpas in the mix!! 🤙🏼THANK YOU John Skinner!
@@JohnSkinnerFishing it would have been a lot longer but I just kept it somewhat short and to the point 😉! Basically THANKS FOR THE KNOWLEDGE you share not only has it helped me but I’m sure it’s helped ALOT of other fishermen as well 🤙🏼
John I love going virtual fishing with you. I'd say today's session was a success, even though we didn't see any cows. Can't wait to read your new book.
We use this lure very frequently in Portuggal, particularly in the North. It is a killer when together with a red eel like the one in the video or a 14 to 16cm plastic fish. I have caught my best european sea bass like this. And as you said, they work great at night!!! Keep on the good work and best wishes from Portugal.
Great stuff, as usual. Maybe you could do a video on different types of tins and ways to fish them? I like to use tins a lot (mostly a daytime angler) and it could be great video for guys who are just starting.
I was thinking of putting an otter tail on the hook of a hopkins, see how that works in Jersey beach. So far, not a lot of action near Tom's river area. We had one or two good days with bunker in the surf.
Hi Mr. Skinner, I am a beginner, just getting into striper fishing. I notice that most of your videos are done like an 1 hour or so before sunrise and sunset. And with overcast or cloudy days. Are these a part of the optimal conditions to fish?
Hello!! Congratulations on the channel !! One question please, should the lure go above the bottom or should it be dragging through the bottom ??? Thank you
The sad thing is I live in North Carolina and these jigs are my go to for bluefish and the company terminal tackle has closed its doors after 30+ years in business. My dad has used these for decades and I have since childhood. Wish there was a company that made them also.
John what color tube with any of thes lures I have ever color I can find but only green and black work for the bass for me do you have a color u seem to do better with?
John thanks again for posting a great video! Since this was the first video I have seen of yours when you actually kept one, I was curious if you bleed them first? Also in your book do you have any recipes? Thanks again.
You said you used "spoon jig," to catch those stripers on the video, but I can't seem to find a single place that sells them! What is the brand name of your "spoon jig?" I want to check it out and get a good look at it!
John, you write about using teasers in Season on the Edge, but you don't show them in your videos. Almost no NJ surf angler would fish metal without a teaser. Is there a particular reason why you are not using a teaser ahead of your tin? Thanks for posting this video.
Kev Z. Don't worry much about casting distance. It all depends on the area. It you're on an open sand beach, one of the best spots is often very close to shore.
John i was catching blue fish after blue fish with a sp minnow, would it made a diffrence switching to something like a jig and keeping it just off the bottom (to avoid bluefish), even though the structure was the same as in your video- about 6ft? Do you also catch blue fish during these outings and don't bother showing that part of the video?
I have a question on spoons. If I hook up on fish and it comes off. Do I need to trade out the hooks for bigger hooks and how can I not snag in the rocks? Do I reel faster in the hard current?
I take them straight out the package onto my line. Yes, they are sharp. I might be reeling to fast maybe or I’m fighting them to hard and I might be ripping there lips maybe?
John I see that the vast majority of your fishing is done off Long Island. I live in Rhode Island and I know that the distance between the shore of Rhode Island and L.I. isn't all that far as the crow flies. In your opinion do they inshore waters hold more bass than those of Rhode Island? The reason I ask is that you never, ever see anyone reel in bass of the shore. Thanks!
Great tips, with that lure do you keep contact with the floor (drag ) the lure ? I hope I can use your tips next time on the sand. Thank You John. Salt water lures are new to Me.
What are your thoughts about using tins with tube tails where eels aren't present or common? Do you feel they'd be just as productive in similar conditions and circumstances?
They always have potential to work because stripers are often scavenging, and something shiny swimming near the bottom is always a candidate to get eaten.

Thanks so much John, love your style of teaching.

Man id love to fish along side you for a day and just pick your brain. Hell id even leave my rod at home your a professor of the art.
Great job I love metal the 2 oz. Kastmaster always a go to lure first the Bucktail tho.

Thank You So Much For Sharing

Charlie graves all day painted white or black at night
Nicely done!! What would you say is the most important factor is selecting a spot on the beach to fish?
Hey John,
Just wanna say great videos and catches. Keep it up I'm enjoying these videos!
Awesome clip😊. Do you ever use tin lures in shallow water reefs and boulder environments depending on conditions and bait type ?
What side reel are you using , line also
I was thinking of putting an otter tail on the hook of a hopkins, see how that works in Jersey beach. So far, not a lot of action near Tom's river area. We had one or two good days with bunker in the surf.
Any rhythm or reason for color choice?
I always see red, yellow, green, and darker green.
Thanks!
What month was this?
John, what weight are you using in this video? Is that the 1.5 oz?
How do u keep ur line from birds nesting, casting after u just caught a fish. Braid tend to create an indent on the spoil after high tension
How far do you cast when surf casting from the beach?!
how do you select a lre to use for that day .(if you cold give some examples)
Is there a certain tide the fish coming to the surf? Or do u have a favorite tide to fish? I would love to know. Thanks

Hey John, What would entice you to throw a tin or a diamond jig for bass? When sandeels are present?
The diamond jig is definitely a good choice with sandeels around.
John do you fish during a specific tide? or are they always around in the morning and night?
Hello!! Congratulations on the channel !! One question please, should the lure go above the bottom or should it be dragging through the bottom ??? Thank you
Great video on tins! You are using red, your thoughts on green or white tails?

John there was great. Really knew his stuff.
@@JohnSkinnerFishing Do you if there is any company that's making something like them?
Can u give me any tips on what to use I'm going to a Long Island south shore beach for stripes thanks.
what beach?
Are you making any videos soon if so when
John what color tube with any of thes lures I have ever color I can find but only green and black work for the bass for me do you have a color u seem to do better with?
They all work. I like to carry green, red, and white.
John thanks again for posting a great video! Since this was the first video I have seen of yours when you actually kept one, I was curious if you bleed them first? Also in your book do you have any recipes? Thanks again.
No recipes in the book. In the rare instances when I keep a bass, I like to gut and ice them right away.
I notice your at an angle as you were retrieving is this because of the current?
Yes, the waves channeling through that structure created some sweep.
You said you used "spoon jig," to catch those stripers on the video, but I can't seem to find a single place that sells them! What is the brand name of your "spoon jig?" I want to check it out and get a good look at it!
Search on "Terminal Tackle Spoon Jig" and you'll find it.
Thanks John!

Hi, John,
Is a 6ft medium action rod and 20lbs stren line with a 3 - 3 1/2 ounce metal lure with a white bucktail at the end good for stripers. Thanks
Kev Z. 6 feet is short for a surf rod, and that is a mighty heavy lure.
What reel is that? Looks nice
van staal
@@vm859 thanks but figured out months ago lol
Love your videos! Thumbs up!
Hi John,
I have just started surf fishing but how far should you cast? Also, how do you cast far. Thanks
Kev Z. Don't worry much about casting distance. It all depends on the area. It you're on an open sand beach, one of the best spots is often very close to shore.
easy hook release. are you crushing barbs on these hooks?
Yep, crushed.

I would still get blues if they were there. I'd try a bucktail to have a better shot at bass.
I have a question on spoons. If I hook up on fish and it comes off. Do I need to trade out the hooks for bigger hooks and how can I not snag in the rocks? Do I reel faster in the hard current?
I'm not being a dick, but are your hooks sharp? Even small hooks catch big fish. You're getting hits, so you're accomplishing the hard part.
I take them straight out the package onto my line. Yes, they are sharp. I might be reeling to fast maybe or I’m fighting them to hard and I might be ripping there lips maybe?
I manage to catch a couple 15 lbers on a 7 ft rod
Sounds like you're doing fine!
Thanks for replying back to me 👍

Rhode Island beaches have good striper fishing for sure. I've heard 2014 was a tough year though.
Can you use lures at night?
yes!!

I'm trying to swim it just off the bottom.
what length rod is that?
9 feet
he says right in video
What is a tin lure?
fedacheese0 did you not watch the video
Nice - good job!
John Skinnet can catch a fish in a bath tub....he's that good!!! :)

Anybody can catch rats..
You would have doubled your catch with a stormbait...
Keep up the good work..
