It is indeed sad they are not with us anymore physically, but the magic of Hollywood has preserved their talents for all time! We can see Jonathan's work from the 1950s on, and watch him just get better and better as he went along. To the moment he passed away his irascible wit and comic agility were wickedly sharp and always relished. Rest in peace Mr. Winters, we miss you!
Unparalleled talent, tears running down my cheeks, with laughter and sadness for this kind of talent is what this world needs and will not get again ..... after watching this and R Williams doing stand up, I cannot watch anyone else, it just doesn't compare
Had the pleasure to be introduced to him many years ago by Gary Owens (from Laugh-In fame) at a recording studio. He was very gracious and I actually made him laugh. Great memory.
Winters and Rickles are two of the top 5. And Carlin makes 3. The other two slots are up for argument. For me it's Groucho and Jack. Or maybe Pryor and Gleason.
Johnny Carson was such a classy dresser. He always looked fantastic. And of course, Jonathan Winters was a phenomenal talent. What he did you can't learn. You can either do it or you can't.
This night..... Jonathan was on ! What an incredible talent..... totally off the wall and so unbelievably inventive. A complete commitment to every fascinating character he portrays....... sorely missed !
Jonathan Winters was one of a kind and his influence can be seen in many other comedians/comic actors, and hats off to Carson for not interrupting the flow.
They broke the mold with these two....There will never be 2 gifted and talented performers as Johnny and Jonathan...No one today comes close. I have not watched any late night shows for quite some time..
BT Design Robin Williams said in his book that Jonathan Winters was responsible for his career and comedic styling....they were lifelong best friends until the end. Jonathan's passing played heavy in Robin's depression and suicide (in my opinion) R.I.P. to all of these guys shown here....all great talents
He was wonderful on airplanes where I worked. I had no idea that he was this good as he just followed me around and appeared here and there with that come hither hand motioning me to follow him and I couldn't because I was working and busy. He just entertained the whole flight and was brilliant. I wish now I had had a comeback. He was brilliant. This sure cheered me up because I am now 74 and have lost everyone I loved and am not well myself. I can now picture him waiting for me with Robin to lead me in. I am worried about dying alone.
He is such a treasure!!! The most funniest man on earth!!!! He was hilarious!!! Johnny was the best late show host EVER!!!!! Those were the best of days!!!! Miss them all terribly.. I still watch Johnny every night!!! 😂😂😂..❤❤❤❤....
He was in one of my favorites movies It's a Mad Mad Mad World. In particular the gas station scene were he went crazy and totally demolished the station, at least for me , may have been the best part of the whole movie, not to take anything away from the many other great actors. When the stars went on the road to promote the film, Jonathan Winters was made the un official answer man, just because of his fast wit! He kept everyone laughing.... because you never knew what he was goin to say next. Some comedians are naturally funny, while others just pretend. Mr. Winters was one of the funniest comedians of our time. May you R.I.P. Thank you for bringing joy and laughter to our hearts.
Now that Jonathan Winters has passed on from our presence. Looking back at his work as a comedian you really get a reality close-up of just how brilliant this comedic genius was. Just a naturally spontaneous funny man. ❤
I remember as a child I loved whenever Jonathan Winters would be on TV I would laugh so hard the characters he did in the faces he made. And as I got older I recognized that he is truly just a funny guy to the Core. Such a genius he can take any situation and make it funny. Sadly he is missed there will never be another like him. I thank the Lord that I was born when I was the 60s to the early 80s were a great time to be alive the world to me today seems to be overtaken by Satan.
I was born in the 50s and I agree with you. The greatest music and the FUNNIEST comic ever came out of that time. I loved Jonathan, too, and our whole family laughed at him until we cried. I don’t live in the past, but seems like the best of everything came out of those times.
I always loved when Johnathan Winters was on the Carson show. I loved how Carson would laugh and carry on with Mr. Winters. I Will always remember. The only other guy as funny as him? Tim Conway....Miss you Johnny and Johnathan!!!!
Mike Ballard when Peter Sellers got older he got a little weird but if you ever want to see a really funny movie with Peter Sellers watch "being there" he plays a guy who's never left his house he spends his whole life watching TV and working in a garden and the owner pays for his food I don't even think he was taught in school he was just going to become the gardener and the old man dies and he's pretty much left out on his own. Then Shirley McLain's car runs into him and she picks him up and takes him home and then the story really starts, excellent movie. He's sort of like a Donald Trump without the mean streak. Just an ignorant man but one who doesn't curse or yell at people because he's not stressed out he's a very relaxed nice totally ignorant to all modern things like politics, sex, and racism.
The fun part about Johathan is that what you see is exactly what is was like all the time. He lived in my City and everybody saw him a lot (especially at a little restaurant called "The Pharmacy"). He was open and friendly and always ready to joke around. I would "hiss" at him (like a cat) and he would "hiss back," and that's about the extent of our conversation. Johathan "held court" many mornings with his buddy Ron Ely (Tarzan), and everybody appreciated him. They were quite a pair ... the "odd couple?"
This man is great .........You don't have to talk dirty to be funny ........Comedians today could take a lesson from Johnathon Winters. A lot of things seem to have been better in the days gone past.
No kidding - It's an art form to make someone laugh without being profane. Jonathan reminds me of my dad, because my dad thought Jonathan was funny, and seemed to share the same kind of humor. Wish I could go back.
I cannot agree more with you. But, it's the same thing with Politics on this show. Carson made fun of politics, but he never showed his hand and commented on it making him a newscaster. Kimmel, Maher, Fallon, Letterman (in his later years), Stewart and Colbert all FAIL as hosts. But, those who do not watch the news, get there news from these clowns!
Funny man. I miss him. My dad used to have several of his albums. Even as a kid I was hooked. I'd go to school and do some of his bits. He was always hilarious.
You could never tell which direction Jonathan Winters would go in his comedy but he always could get you to laugh. His comedy style was similiar to Robin Williams and Jim Carrey. Winters and Johnny Carson must've been good friends because Carson has invited Winters to be a guest in 4 decades worth of the Tonight Show.
This man was one of the best. This is my opinion, Robin Williams tried to be like Winters, but he couldn't hold a light to him. This was humour without the use of four letter word's. This was funny. Thanks
Jonathan Winters could just walk out and look at the audience and they would bust out laughing because the face he would make let them know they were about to hear a very funny routine, and you can see absolutely know where Robin Williams got his inspiration from.
Nothing like Jonathan Winters or Robin Williams. The talent of ad Lib on the spot can never be matched ever. Not their way. If they ever were ever in the same room. Oh gosh. Legacy.

Very sad that we don’t have these great actors and comedians anymore in Hollywood. Back when Hollywood was truly special.
Genius. None of the great comedians even mentioned politics. Now they are all political, and they are all stupid.
It is indeed sad they are not with us anymore physically, but the magic of Hollywood has preserved their talents for all time! In John's first 30 seconds he's funnier than most stand ups throughout their entire career!
Doh!
Jonathan was a master. Pure comedy magic. He oozed comedy.

They broke the mold with these two....There will never be 2 gifted and talented performers as Johnny and Jonathan...No one today comes close. I have not watched any late night shows for quite some time..
Winters was a master of suggestion and innuendo that hasn't been repeated since. He didnt need to cuss or be crass.
You are so right about the "innuendo" part . his character renditions would always "suggest" but never actually say
Definitely one of the greats. I needed some good laughs right now. Imagine a trio of J. Winters, R.Williams, and Jackie Gleason.
Take out Robin. He was not funny.

There's an absurdist, almost morose bent to Winters' humor that belies how I might typically regard comedians of his generation. I love it.
