    A lot of other videos on the low short ball focus on the wrist/arm action instead of the body which I found difficult to take to the courts. Your explanation about getting low, keeping the torso upright, and not leaning too much into the shot will help a ton. Thanks Will!

    Great video as always. One question though. In ATP men move back or forth on short balls and in WTA woman prefer to stay foot and lower their body. Why is that? Has to do with the ball recognition or something else? Thanks

    Thank you for the great info on the shortened swing. Is there a tennis wall video coming? I was mainly played in flat shots on the forehand and found it very difficult to keep the rally since the ball come back very low. If I tried to do the full big swing, I always miss the timing.

      @@ironwilltennis If possible, please do a volley wall video. I try to keep a simple forehand volley against the wall going. Other guys can hit 50 but I can't do much more than 5. Ball comes back too fast. I do have a habit of taking a swing on the volley (which is why I am doing the wall drill) but even with a compact swing, it is difficult to keep a volley rally going. 🤔... And on a normal volley on the court, you are supposed to be body-dominant and not arm-dominant. But on the wall ralley,, it is practically impossible to turn the body (even slightly) and the rally quickly becomes arm-dominant. Even the advanced players become arm-dominant on the wall and barely turn the body. I suspect the wall volley drill might build bad habits. 🤔

    Hi Coach, how do you handle balls hit close to your feet but when you're at the baseline, specifically to the backhand. I have a one hander and sometimes opponents, when I hit a short ball, own't necessarily hit crazy pace, but they'll place it in the backhand corner such that it bounces close to my feet in the BH corner. I think one of the problems was that I didn't back up as soon as I realized I hit a short shot but two, I try to hit it with a regular eastern backhand grip with a normal swing and it tends to lift up for an easy clean up by my opponent who's by that time at the net. How do you pick these balls up? Continental grip? A push like you mentioned in this video? But that's difficult because opponent is crashing the net. Thank you!

    Can you give some tips on how to return a low & deep ball by a one-handed backhand?

    What about sliced shots? I usually return it slice on the BH and top spin if on the FH cause I dont have a good slice on the FH.

    • @ironwilltennis
      @ironwilltennis  11 месяцев назад

      Everything I did will work on a slice as well, you just have to adjust you spacing a little differently because slices take longer to come up. But slice to slice is definitely an option 😁

    When I think of low balls that get me in trouble I think of times when my opponent hits short or mishits off a good serve, or deep groundstroke. If I don't read the short ball in time I have to pick up the ball well inside the baseline and that can give me some trouble sometime. Any tips for how to deal with short balls you have to scramble for (ie not taking it on the rise)?

      @@ironwilltennis I agree that the short shot that you don't expect is a real problem. Often, all you can do is reach for the shot in front of you with a weak reply and being stuck in no-man's land... Ideally, you want to see the shot early enough so that doesn't happen, but in real life, it's hard to avoid...

      To chime in on the forehand-I still can't get heavy spin on the ball although having watched your and every video out there. I still don't understand why my shots have almost no spin on the ball (and often more of a side spin). I am confused. 😢
