    • @fredjennings5312
      @fredjennings5312 3 года назад

      @@davidmurray2539 Yep. VERY different thoughts alright. Also different from what the guys said themselves. Neil said he looked forward to working with Stephen again and insisted that his name get equal billing, but you seem to know that he couldn’t care less. Crosby‘s “prominence” was far greater with his various collaborations with these guys than he EVER had with the Byrds.

    • @davidmurray2539
      @davidmurray2539 3 года назад

      @@fredjennings5312 Neil considered Stephen a brother. His disinterest in this project, aside from guaranteeing big paydays to finance his own career, are evident in word and
      film, throughout the excruciating long tenure of the band. As for Crosby, CSNY was his much deserved karma for being a "bad, incorrigible" Byrd. Those unmatched harmonies he provided in The Byrds were never to be heard again in the Nash dominated harmony mixes of the group's recording. Stills emerged from those first two albums as the star and had he been as prolific a songwriter as Neil he should've grabbed Crosby and made those two records by themselves. Conjecture here of course. I've heard Neil and David sing together and it was phenomenal. And Stills has so much talent as lyricist, player and singer. All in all, their music has not aged well. To hear Our House playing on the sound system at your local grocery store while you're picking your way through produce, and in the age of Covid, is a truly nausea inducing experience. As another comment pointed out to you, it is a bit disturbing to some when people play one word association games with famous musicians named.

    • @GordBall
      @GordBall 3 года назад +2

      @@davidmurray2539 To the contrary regarding your first point above, I would argue that David's vocal harmonies are integral to the CSN/Y sound. The fact that it is often difficult to hear his parts on the recordings is evidence of his brilliance in that arena, because it is most often his voice sitting between Stills (below) and Nash (above) that allows that famous blend to happen. Performed less precisely and you end up sounding like the Beach Boys, Byrds, America or the Eagles, which is by no means a bad thing, but to my mind doesn't come close to CSN/Y at their best. Point being they were all essential to the success of the band; That some members' contributions carry more weight than others is difficult to argue. But I still enjoy hearing songs like "Our House" and "Suite: Judy Blue Eyes" when they come around. It reminds me of a time when the popular music of the day was recorded by real musicians playing real musical instruments onto magnetic tape that has not been quantized by ProTools to conform to the grid and auto-tuned to remove any sense of humanity. Such music is of course still being made but you have no know where to look for it, and it's not on the radio or being played on the sound system at your local grocery store.

    They’re right about Stills. A few years ago I saw him on tour with Judy Collins. Judy played an acoustic twelve, they had a drummer, bass player, keyboard player, and I figured they’d do like most solo artists and bring a sessions lead guitar player. Nope. Didn’t need one. Stills handled it himself. His voice wasn’t great in that he had trouble with his tuning, but I had no idea he was that good a guitarist. That was the surprise of the night. And I got to watch him.
