It's a shame what they've done with this show. This right here was pure genius. I miss Season 1.
Agreed. While the action , effects, actors performances and chemistry all remain strong, the story telling itself has regressed dramatically lacking the emotional weight from scenes such as this.
There are two primary reasons. One, they've simply overdosed on the time travel aspect to the point where things are so convoluted things feel repetitive and unfulfilling. The whole Savitar arc is a prime example of this.
Second is the huge underultilizing of the villians. I know enough that Flash has a strong enough Rogues gallery and Captain Cold aside, they've all been one note and unmemorable. A whole season of Flash against the Rogues had so much potential and it's been wasted.
Season 2 was still good and they brought it back in season 4
I feel the same way. Season 1 was excellent.
@@nicholasjohnson6919 Season 4 is campy, goofy trash. Yeah, all Arrowverse shows have this at some level, but at least in the good seasons (Arrow S1,2,5 - Flash S1,3 etc.) this is toned down enough so that you can take it seriously. But not in the bad seasons (Flash S4 - Arrow S3,4,6 etc.)
Though to be fair the campiness and goofiness shouldn't be there at all.
@@narbacularblu6779 I think that the goofiness in the show is good to a certain extent. It has to be self-aware, otherwise it gets overdramatic like in Season 3. Season 3 was boring because of how seriously it took itself, like with Savitar. The end of season 2 does this too I think. Season 4 was bad because they ruined a lot of characters and had such a one-note villain.

Not really, yes when you are in your time they are dead, but if you are face to face with them as a person it is different. Say I went back in time and met a woman and decided to kill her, I don't think I could, since whilst there was no record of her and from my point of view then she was dead for centuries, if I am standing face to face with her, then how is she any different to someone from my own time whom I try to kill? There is no difference if you are standing with the person, regardless of time period.

I can believe it when he says Cisco in many ways is like a son to him. He is both proud of him but also not only introduces himself but looks beyond happy to show Cisco his powers. If anything it looks like he really wanted to tell him and put his mind at ease before killing him. He of course had to do it Cisco is 1 of the best minds in the show and can probably be of massive use to stop him.
You can kinda feel the regret he has just before he kills Cisco... them feels man.

Agreed, Flash Season 1 was the best Flash Season. Why? Because it had character development, excellent writing and story telling, emotional scenes like this one, very good music and science fiction.
Well the story is honestly overrated but damn, the way it just hooks you in with how it’s presented...
Things were fine after Season 1 and before Season 7. It went to Hell in 7
Season 1 may have been inconsistent but it was still a good introduction to the flash mythos, despite season 3 not being a good season i would say its better than most current seasons.

something I like about the writers of the arrowverse is that that do their own take on the comic characters. Eobard Thawne in the comics is a petty, shallow, and pathetic man. the things he is known for in the comic world are, well, comical. This version seems far more serious and intimidating...and also far more human.
He's the biggest fucking Dick in the comics.

I've got to say, I love Carlos's acting and his portrayal of Cisco's expression at 3:17. You can see the many different emotions the character is experiencing here. You can see the disbelief and betrayal in his eyes, but in the way he purses his lips and swallows, you can see the simmering anger and that is quite incredible!
Imagine how great CW shows would be if deaths actually mattered.

Superman13195 The blood samples belong to Barry and Eobard Thawne. There probable was a "real" Dr. Wells, who got killed by Eobard so he could take his place. The database entry of Wells must have been old, so it was the real Wells' DNA in the database.

he will live, barry just went back in time, so the entire second half the episode will change next episode. However the events around Eobard Thawne revealing himself will also never happen since time line will change, so cisco will not know about him for the time being.

Karlee Craziness That seems like a convenient plot point that writers are throwing in. I have never seen people remember an alternate timeline.
If time travel results in two alternate timelines, the two Cisco's will be different people and cannot experience or know what the other has seen or been through. Alternatively if the previous timeline is erased and replaced with a new one takes it place. What Cisco is having visions of did not happen.
Tom's performance that season deserved so much more recognition. His role as the villain in season - is up their with all on-screen villains.

man i miss the reverse flash's old voice, they made him sound more like a human with a voice changer in later seasons, here he just sounds like a complete monster, which fit him so much more and just gave me goosebumps

Season 1 and 2 were amazing season 3 was really good season 4 was alright season 5 was passable (besides cicada terrible villain) the blood work stuff in season 6 was ok but rushed after that the show went to hell now we’ve got reverse flash wearing that terrible new suit (my opinion)

I like this version of evil Wells/ Reverse Flash more than his recent performances.
In the 1st season he was cold, methodical and very composed (even though he still hated Barry for most of the season). But it also felt like he had a complete arc. In the end he gave Barry a recorded confession of "his" crimes so the authorities had enough proofs to release Henry Allen from jail. He planned that to redeem himself and compensate Barry for all the suffering he made him endure.
Don't get me wrong, he was still a killer and a criminal, but that act alone showed the audience that he had a little change of heart about Barry. He wasn't the same man of the first episode.
But then you see him returning again from season 4 to 7 scheming Barry's demise again and again like a complete psycho with blood lust. More unhinged than ever and acting like a cartoonish villain, improvising and completely deranged. Is not Tom's fault as an actor, more like the writers changed a lot his behaviour and he had to follow the awful scripts of later seasons. They threw away his evolution as a villain and mentor.
I love Tom's acting skills. He was awesome as Reverse Flash and most of the alternate versions of Harrison Wells from the multiverse. The sad truth is, they keep bringing back his Eobard Thawne a lot... Even when the season is not about him, the showrunners finds forced reasons to do it, just because he's charismatic and a fan favorite.
Yes, he is the most famous and dangerous nemesis of Flash, just like Joker is to Batman, but they made a big mistake when they gave him a closure in season 1 just to ignore it later for the sake of ratings.
He released his dad so he could get killed by zoom
Even though it gets retconned out of existence, I still can’t stop feeling the pure emotion and talent in this scene
Back when Thawne wasn't one dimensional 'I hate everything but me' emo. Here, in first season, he felt like an actual human being, later he was reduced to being like a prop. 'I hate you, that's it'.

CW should do a series on the reverse flash: how he got his speed, how he created the negative speed force, fighting Barry etc. I think it’ll be cool to see the futuristic time he comes from in a tv perspective with some storyline behind it.
In this line he says “you’ve shown me what it’s like to have a son” and then kills him. In season 5, when he sacrifices Nora he says “in many ways you have shown me what it is like to have a daughter”
Such a great scene and acting! I am sure Barry will end up unknowingly saving Cisco.
Man the music was so stellar. The scenes had so much gravity. Characters didn't feel stupid or invincible, they felt like real people. The plot felt natural, not like an obvious scripted chain of events. The acting has always been phenomenal but past S1 lacks the depth that allowed these great actors to SHINE like they did in S1. So much soul.
Hope one day they can see past their casting quotas and crossovers and start telling a soulful story again. S6 ain't the worst season but it has that same generic funk to it that all the S2+ seasons have had. Typical hasty wrap-up at the end. No thoughtful theme or message to the viewer.
That was utterly BADASS!, Shocking!! and in a way beautiful... WOW!!!

This is one of the greatest scenes of all time. He really played on ciscos empathy to physiologically destroy Him. Eobard is truly a geniuses of hate. Also I wonder what his explanation would be for ciscos disappearance

Honestly. It might just be because I liked the show "Ed" so much, but Tom Cavanaugh going full psycho was a bit of a gut punch.

On an unrelated note, I'm hoping that season 4 of The Flash can recapture some of what made Season 1 (in particular) so much fun to watch.

Season 1 was so good that I cried at this scene. Not too many shows can get me invested in a character enough to get me to care about their "death" in the first season.
Okay this was awesome, but Well's speed mirage excuse doesn't make perfect sense exactly. We see Barry tackle the reverse Flash and fight him outside with Wells lying on the ground after getting beat up. How could he make a speed mirage when he's outside of the building and fighting the Flash. Like unless Reverse Flash was like thousands of times faster than even the Flash this would be impossible.
Jon Dunn It's possible he can consciously manipulate the Speed Mirages.
+Jon Dunn they just solved that in the most recent episode, Flash was able to create multiple Speed Mirages and he made them move so that officially solved it
Or his mirage was Wells and the real Thawn (Sorry if misspell) was in the suit so all his mirage had to do was lie down
After the reveal I've rewatched season 1 several times just to observe Thawne's reactions and attitude, knowing what he's been up to. Pure satisfaction, exquisite performance by Tom Cavanagh
