I've run my BougeRV battery powered fridge for over 2 years without turning it off. Still kickin'. A 400 WHr battery powers it for over a day. Unit costs approx $300 holds 2 gallons of milk and more.

You guys just "Marques Brownlee'd" these coolers. Wonder if they fit in a Fisker?

    FRUNK ?
Design one for the "less used" Frunk area. Or put this in the Frunk.
Sadly, once you've designed and tooled up for production - changes are usually cost prohibitive.
    Thanks for the FACTUAL review.

I bought a Coleman electric cooler at a garage sale for $10. It doesn’t fit in the subtrunk, and the cooling is similar to your unit, but it does come with wheels and a handle and a 110 connector.

I have the exact same fridge and I have a correction for your con about "space". You've assembled the plastic-cover wrong, (which I also happened to do when I assembled mine). If you flip the "wings" around, it will be the right way around and access is eas(y/ier).

I wonder if Tesla could add this as and option and use the entire subtrunk and use the heat pump to vent the heat.

Good product. Yes it is pricey. I have a Tesla Y. In the summer months it reaches an average of 120 to 130 degrees inside vehicle. With in cabin protection mode set to 100 degrees you wouldn’t or shouldn’t have any problems. In a 24hr period you would only loose 10-15 percent of battery, even with sentry mode turned on. Also is a good idea to cool the fridge with AC cord adapter(ordered from Amazon) before putting it in the subtrunk.

Good idea poorly executed? There is a 12v outlet in the driver side pocket of the trunk.

    • @GregHassler
      @GregHassler 3 месяца назад +1

In the Y, not the 3. Plus the 12v outlets shut off when the car is parked/locked.

I love my ACO cooler in the MY I have. Did have to hardwire the power cord to the 12-volt system, however. The plug was unreliable. Mine didn't come with a vent screen - just some tabs to elevate the cover up a bit. I don't think it's nearly enough. I'm considering adding a 12-volt fan to aid in air movement. Use ours constantly here in Texas so it gets put through the wringer.
We use ours to primarily keep a brick of water bottles cold. So there's always cold water in unit if I add any fruits or some other items for a one-off transport occasion it helps to pull down the temp of amient items freshly placed in unit. If I wish to transport ice-cream or frozen items then i will remove most of the water and pre-cool unit down to 26° It doesn't have lots of cooling "horsepower" but with a bit of thought it works very well. I would definitely buy again.
For M3 application, I would hardwire the unit and stash wire under the carpets/seats and not use the 12-volt plug. Waste of time and wire gets damaged long term. Plus, it takes up the one outlet available in the car.

We just use an inexpensive Coleman plug-in cooler. It's a simple dielectric cooler. Wait for the fall. You could probably get one for $60.

I just bought this yesterday. I did not get it on Amazon because I got it from ACOPOWER and it was on sale for $399. I then I found a RUclips code which brought it down to $360 and 2 day delivery from ACO. 10:38 grating is on backwards, and lifts in the other direction. I will be using my portable battery because of the way you have route the power cable.

2017 we paid $999 for an Engle cooler. Runs every day in our Toyota Sienna on an auxiliary battery. Using DC 12v it sips energy. Convenience of a portable refrigerator with no ice is fantastic.

Good idea, but it needs some iteration. When the product works as advertized, usability and reliability improves, and price drops to below $200, then it will be a good option.

As for actual used cases, maybe a long road trip where you just needed to transport some thing at a very cold temperature and didn’t need to access it that much during the trip? You’d have to have the car maintain normal temperatures throughout and not leave the car unattended for more than a few minutes during that whole road trip in case the alarm goes off.

Thanks guys! I was super excited about this fridge for my new Model 3 until I realized I would need to pull off a bunch of trim to route the power to the outlet in the front. That had me waffling. But you brought up so many other good points that it's now a definite "no" for me... at least for now. I'll just continue to use my small cooler if I go on a road trip.

I’m not sure if anybody said this or not but what if you froze your ice packs put your ice packs in the cooler and then rotated them back out and stuck them back into that cooler and refrozen .so you would have this and another cord .

Go out and look at your model 3. In the front of the center console where the 12 volt plug is, there is room for the cable to come out. It does not get pinched.

On a summer day this unit is using far more energy than you've pointed out. The "hot air" from the freezer is circulating throughout the cabin that needs to be cooled by the cars air conditioner. Double energy wammy.

It could be good to make ice for a normal esky. You keep cycling the ice packs. I do have a 35l car fridge/freezer that straps in on the back seat. We love it when you open a can and you have a layer of ice on top on a 40c day.

When I sold eggs at the farmers’ market, I bought some blue cold packs that froze at a temperature lower than 32F. That way, moisture condensed on them as frost instead of getting the cartons wet.
