Thanks so much Nick for doing my request. One of my all time favourite singers ever. This is Linda in her prime. Such an amazing vocalist and great live performer. She could sing any genre and yes very popular. Sadly, that beautiful voice has been silenced due to illness but there is a backlog of great music from Linda to still enjoy ❤
Always had the best talent with her. Famous people in their own right. So many awards, grammy's, etc. This is n elongated version. She was THE female talent in the 70's. Love her.
Linda Ronstadt is an American singer who has won 11 Grammy Awards, an ALMA Award, a Latin Grammy for Lifetime Achievement, and an Emmy Award123. She has also been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, and earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe Award134. She has sold millions of records in various genres, including pop, country, rock and roll, big band, jazz, opera, Broadway standards, and Mexican and Afro-Cuban influences15. She has received several honors in recent years, such as the Kennedy Center Honors, the National Medal of the Arts, and a Recording Academy Lifetime Achievement Award35.
Linda is one of my lady singers. I fell in love with her voice and songs. I have all of vinyl record albums in my record collection. You need listen to her other songs! ❤❤❤❤ ❤❤❤❤❤❤
You have no idea how BIG a star she was. She was the first woman selling out arenas. The scale was different, but she’d be like Beyoncé is today. Linda was the top selling female singer in the world in the 1970s. The first female artist in pop history with four consecutive platinum albums. Six times on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine. Billboard magazine’s Pop Female Singles Artist , Pop Female Album Artist, and Female Artist of the Year (overall). She had such a strong voice. And recorded different styles, including mariachi. Nominated for a Tony award for the light opera Pirates of Penzance on Broadway. 11 Grammies. Lifetime Achievement. Latin Lifetime Achievement. Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Kennedy Center Honoree. Such an impact at the time. Such an incredible artist.
OMG!! Did she do anything else that was really popular? Probably the greatest vocalist of her era. Blue Bayou, When Will I Be Loved, Different Drum, Deperado, Silver Threads and Golden Needles, It's So Easy, and, maybe the saddest song ever sung, Long Long Time. These are just a few of her career highlights. Sadly, her career was cut short due to health problems.
Tell em girl! She won Emmys, something like 11 Grammys, and many other awards, CMA's and I know I'm forgetting many more than I mentioned! Plus she was partially responsible for one of the other biggest selling rock acts of the 70s The Eagles! The first incarnation of The Eagles were Linda's back up band The Stone Ponys! My dad absolutely LOVED Linda's voice..
Linda Ronstadt was most likely the leading female voice of her times. Country, Country Rock, Rock, Pop, and Opera. She is a living legend who can no longer sing due to Parkinson Disease. Great reaction.
Here’s an interesting article on billboard.com he might like on that subject… there are many out there. www.billboard.com/music/music-news/linda-ronstadt-glenn-frey-don-henley-eagles-6844113/
One of the greatest female vocalists of all time…. She could sing anything….pop, rock, even opera, and in a native tongue…. Truly a great ( so sad she can’t sing anymore due to Parkinson’s Disease)…. More Linda please.
Linda Ronstadt is one of the best female singers & can sing any genre from ballads to country to rock & even opera. She has had so many hits such as "Different Drum", "Blue Bayou", "Long, Long Time", "Don't Know Much", "Poor Poor Pitiful Me", "Desperado" etc. Ronstadt also did two great duets, "Somewhere Out There" (with James Ingram) & "Don't Know Much" (with Aaron Neville). The Eagles were her backing band till they went out on their own & she has covered a lot of their songs. You might also enjoy her collaborations with "Dolly Parton" & "Emmylou Harris". They did a few albums together called "Trio" in 1987 & 1999.
Not her song originally, but Linda Ronstadt is the Queen of covers. All her songs are covers and they are amazing!! One of the greatest legendary voices of her era
And Linda was the one who put the band together, she originally had Don Henley and Glann Frey. They had talked to her about forming their own group. Linda got them to meet Randy Meisner, and Bernie Leadon, she thought they would be a great fit. Enough said! If you listen to Don And Glenn at Linda's induction to the R&R Hall of Fame, they say they owed their Eagles career to Linda,
So many hits, broke so many sales records and one of the more powerful singers of all times! You just have to go down the rabbit hole. Most all the commenters have named her big hits and you owe yourself a listen!
Linda Ronstadt she can sing anything. Country, rock , opera, jazz, mariachi. So beautiful and versatile. There will never be another singer like her ever.
Yup, Linda Ronstadt did something. She has earned 11 Grammy Awards, three American Music Awards, two Academy of Country Music awards, an Emmy Award, and an ALMA Award. Many of her albums have been certified gold, platinum or multiplatinum in the United States and internationally. She has also earned nominations for a Tony Award and a Golden Globe award. She was awarded the Latin Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Latin Recording Academy in 2011 and also awarded the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award by the Recording Academy in 2016. She was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April 2014. On July 28, 2014, she was awarded the National Medal of Arts and Humanities. In 2019, she received a star jointly with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for their work as the group Trio. Linda Ronstadt was among five honorees who received the 2019 Kennedy Center Honors for lifetime artistic achievements.
Mate Linda is right up there with the greats. She is the reason the Eagle came to be. she also still has the biggest selling Spanish album of all time. Her range is phenomenal. Do not sell this lady short she is brilliant and like Farnsie she is going through some tough times at the moment.
She's has over 100 million in sales, so yes, she's done plenty in multiple genres, country, r&b, rock, pop, opera, broadway, latin. Oh you saw where she was actually helping the guitar player replace his guitar strap while he kept playing, that was why the solo went that long.
There was literally no genre of music that she couldn't sing at an excellent level. She was simply a marvel and one of the greatest voices of her generation.
Linda poached four great musicians/singers from four different bands to work with her. Those guys later formed the band called the Eagles. If you don’t know their music, you need to check them out for sure.
You have just discovered the most beautiful voice on the planet. Linda could sing anything and make it better than anyone else who did the same song. She has a forty year catalogue to explore. Linda always surrounded herself with first class band members. Well worth a closer look. She sang barefooted for many years. 🌺✌️
“She sounds very good live, I’ll say that”. Oh honey, have some respect for one of the WORLD’S finest singers: Rock, country, R&B, 40’s ballads, Blues, Mexican mariachi, Light opera, etc. This woman KNOWS music and is an ARTIST of the highest order. Go , find out what you’ve been missing.
Her last album always seem to be overlooked. Adieu False Heart, released 2006, was a foray into Cajun music, in collab with Ann Savoy. Great singing, even tho she thought otherwise, already feeling the effects of her illness.
Hey Nick! So glad u loved Linda. I saw her back in the day and she always surrounded herself with the best musicians. Linda had Glenn Frey/Don Henley (created The Eagles) in her band at one time. Linda's catalogue is as mixed as any artist ever but her years singing rock n roll were her most memorable. She had success singing in every genre. Sadly Linda has Parkinson's disease and her voice has been silenced. Keep digging into this generational singers music...you will find JOY!
Gorgeous important pipes especially Live. Powerful and tender. Solid. Clear. Flexible and she never bathed in her own reflection. Linda celebrated the songwriters and players. Deep musical chops and a big generous heart. Indeed a rare and remarkable songbird. Thanks for your appreciation of the beloved Ronstadt.
In addition to what others have said, don't miss her work in "The Trio" with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris. They put out two phenomenal albums. Their version of "High Sierra" is not to missed.
The original recording was done by Dee Dee Warwick (Dionne's sister) in 1963. It has been covered by Betty Everett and others most notably by Linda Ronstadt in 1974
One of the Greatest female artists! PERIOD! You should hear her Mariachi music....other worldly! She even does classic big band music! Ain’t nothin she can’t do! The EAGELS use to be her back up band! ❤️🔥❤️❤️🔥❤️🔥😊
It's hard to pick a best song for me. :) She actually has progressive supranuclear palsy; it's similar to PD, which they first diagnosed her with in 2012. About a year later the diagnosis changed. Such a shame.
LR won 12 Grammy awards, sold 100 million records with at least 31 albums being gold or platinum . Her vocal skills are legendary in many genres. I’m always surprised when people who are interested in music haven’t heard of her. Please react to more!
Linda can sing anything and make it special. She belts this one out; but she can also deliver soft and sweet. Just check out her rendition of "Blue Bayou" Oh; and she also sings in Spanish. A beautiful woman with a beautiful voice; and a beautiful soul as well. Linda Ronstadt is the full package. So tragic that her illness prevents her from singing.
It is so nice for you to have played Linda Ronstadt. and your reaction was fantastic. The live performance you used is a lot longer than the released version, and it is just as good. In her popular music career she had over 100 million albums sold, when there were no rock videos or other special gimmicks. She essentially left rock in the late 80's and sang 'standards' - songs that have been around for many, many decades. She also did operetta and even opera as well. Then she went and created a few CDs in Spanish, which is NOT her native language, which I do not think she even speaks. She did not write any of her music, and just sang songs of others, and ended up owning them in the most part. You need to listen to her Blue Bayou, a Roy Orbison song from 1963, and Roy's is also quite good. But everyone remembers Linda's rendition (1977), and not his. Some of your commentators here say that she was the best female vocalist of her era, but I contend that was the best female vocalist of all time. She could sing like an angle, like Karen Carpenter or Olivia Newton-John, she had a vocal range double almost anyone else, and she could belt out volume all of a sudden that would shock you. She had it all. She was known as the Queen of Rock. I own just about all her albums on CD, and I have a near state of the art home theater/sound system, and does she ever sound so great!
100 million records sold, more awards for her talent than there is room to write here, recorded music in multi-genres, responsible for helping form the Eagles band, From rock to country to opera to Mexican heritage and more. She is LEGEND. She lost her beautiful voice due an insidious disease. To say her talent was amazing is an understatement.
She traveled with Jackson Browne as the opener for a concert tour of his. They ended up taking turns as the opener of shows. When asked about him, as the headliner, opening some nights, his response was, who wants to follow Linda Ronstadt every evening/show. Jackson Browne was a big deal during the 1970’s. I saw an interview, I think with David Letterman, when Linda was part of “The Trio” with Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris where Dolly and Emmylou were a bit perturbed because Linda wouldn’t take the lead, Linda said, “I like singing harmonies”. Linda is a rabbit hole you don’t go down unless your going to give it some real attention. Pop, country, Rock n roll, Standards from the mid 20th century with the Belson riddle orchestra, light opera(the pirates of Penzance on Broadway, with kevin Kline), two Spanish language albums with a mariachi band. No Linda didn’t speak Spanish at the time. Linda was told not to do her albums with The Nelson Riddle because it would hurt her career, instead she won another Grammy. Linda was told not to do a Spanish language album, so she won another Grammy, that was in 1987 I think, it is still the number one selling Spanish language album of all time. I definitely recommend her live Grammy performance of “La Charreada”. Watch for Bonnie Raitte’s reaction at the end of the performance, it says all that needs to be said about Linda;)
I was so incredibly fortunate to have grown up in the 70’s when music actually consisted of real musical instruments and talented vocalists that could be understood. Real, raw and soul moving. When they sound just as good live if not better than in studio, you know they’ve got real talent. Sad to say, those days are gone and it makes me sad that today’s generation will never experience that. Nothing but crap played on the radio today in my opinion.
Along with all the great songs already listed, she did 2 Spanish albums dedicated to her father. La Charreada is a good song to consider if you have an interest. This is a fast speaking song.
Linda Ronstadt sang Tumbling Dice and Mick Jagger said she owned the song. It was hers now. You’re No Good was written in in 1962, but Linda makes every song her own.
One of my favorite things about Linda Ronstadt is that even though she might have been the biggest female singer of the 70's, there always came a time in her songs where she stepped off to the side and let the boys in the band do their thing.
Clint Ballard Jr., a Texas-born songwriter whose songs, heard on 10 million records, included the 1965 hit “The Game of Love” and Linda Ronstadt's No. 1 single “You're No Good” from 1975
Linda was a fantastic singer, especially live. One of the all-time greats as far as I'm concerned. And pretty much every straight guy of a certain generation had a crush on her back in the '70s.
She was one of those singers that I grew up with and has stayed with me all these years - I'm 72 now. I also love her Latin songs, part of her heritage. Blue Bayou, When Will I Be Loved, Silver Threads and Golden Needles, Somewhere Out There, It's So Easy, Long Long Time, Lo Siento Mi Vida, Hay Los Ojos. Just for starters.
When I saw her back in the day it was the first concert that gave me shivers up my spine the entire show and I saw plenty. Everyone from Hendrix to Led Zeppelin. Her band at the time went on to become The Eagles. It's criminal that this guy knows so little about her.
I became interested in your channel because of your great reactions to Jessie J., who by far is my favorite working vocalist. I say working because Linda no longer sings, but had been my favorite working vocalist since 1969. I know how much you appreciate vocals. Linda is an absolute must. Dig into all of the genres she successfully recorded over the years. You'll become a fan - guaranteed. You'll probably be surprised to realize how many of her hits you know.
I know you think Celine is the most versatile vocalist ever, but most music critics will tell you that it is Linda Ronstadt hands-down. She did Patsy Cline country songs she did rock ‘n’ roll by the Rolling Stones. She did traditional Mexican mariachi. She actually sang in the Pirates of Penzance opera not to mention some other genres. If you want to see the true measure of this woman, who, by the way is unparalleled life, then you should review her doing “La Charreda” from her Mexican album - you will not believe it.
Dude I been watching your videos for a while now and I was wondering if you know how talented you are! Almost every time an artist hits a note you can match it. Maybe you can get your own career jumping! Nice work!
Linda was the first live rock concert I ever went to as a 12 year old 1979. Sold out the famous MCG stadium in Melbourne to around 100,000 people. Amazing live sounded better than the recording. And the eagles as her backing band weren’t too slouchy either…
“Did she do anything else good.?” Aren’t you funny… Linda had no limits. Rock, country, Spanish language, operetta. She is probably the most versatile woman’s voice of the last 60 years. Her list of accomplishments, awards, and honors is staggering. Do a quick scan of just the first paragraph of her Wikipedia page as a starting point then pick most anything in her catalog and enjoy
And she was a genuine person, she helped a lot of poeple over her career. Creating the Eagles, then her next band included Andrew Gold, who would go solo with her help and he had two big hit's, Thank You For Being My Friend( yes that one from the Golden Girls), and Lonely Boy, She also proved to women getting in or wanting to get into music that you can make it, don't give up.
Hello. There are a few different live versions of Linda Ronstadt singing "You're No Good" available on RUclips. However this is the most extended version I have heard. In addition, yes, Linda Ronstadt was very popular. She has had many hits and has sold approximately 100 million albums worldwide.
Nick, you mean to tell us you've never heard of Linda Ronstadt??? What? I'm shocked! Linda is only one of the most successful female singers of all time! Surely you've heard her duet with Aaron Neville, I don't know much? Or the duet with James Ingram, Somewhere out there? Actually... Don,Glen and Bernie from The Eagles began as her musicians before they formed The Eagles! She's been around for about 55 years!!! LoL Linda has performed just about every genre of music. Very seldom can a singer able to sing every genre of music
Aanndd ... her backing band was _The Eagles_ , for crying out loud. As for the _other_ songs she did? The list is so long that I can't possibly put it in this comment. Just know that she is now a member of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame ... and rightly so. If you want to listen to something else of hers, try "Blue Bayou". That'll put you in a mood. Guaranteed.
"Blue Bayou" Not sure of the spelling but put her name in it should come up. Sadly today she has a dibilitating disease and can no longer sing, but in her day she was incredible!
I'd tell her she diesn't need to sing anymore, as long as there is places like youtube, and digital format, she will be singing forever. She will never stop having fans or getting new ones! Just sit back an realize she used her god given talent as long as she could and left a legacy most singers only wish they could have had.
Thanks so much Nick for doing my request. One of my all time favourite singers ever. This is Linda in her prime. Such an amazing vocalist and great live performer.
Best female vocalist of her time.
Linda Ronstadt sang Tumbling Dice and Mick Jagger said she owned the song. It was hers now.
You’re No Good was written in in 1962, but Linda makes every song her own.
That was absolutely awesome 👏 ❤
One of my favorite things about Linda Ronstadt is that even though she might have been the biggest female singer of the 70's, there always came a time in her songs where she stepped off to the side and let the boys in the band do their thing.
She was a big part of The Eagles forming. Love Linda ❤️
I’ve seen her in concert several times. An amazing singer with a beautiful rich textured voice.
This video is why watching a live performance is best…it’s when the magic happens.
Clint Ballard Jr., a Texas-born songwriter whose songs, heard on 10 million records, included the 1965 hit “The Game of Love” and Linda Ronstadt's No. 1 single “You're No Good” from 1975
One of the greatest pure singers of her generation- and she sang everything
Linda was a fantastic singer, especially live. One of the all-time greats as far as I'm concerned. And pretty much every straight guy of a certain generation had a crush on her back in the '70s.
She’s a great singer and was huge in 70s
She was one of those singers that I grew up with and has stayed with me all these years - I'm 72 now. I also love her Latin songs, part of her heritage. Blue Bayou, When Will I Be Loved, Silver Threads and Golden Needles, Somewhere Out There, It's So Easy, Long Long Time, Lo Siento Mi Vida, Hay Los Ojos. Just for starters.
Loved her Latin songs too. "Lo siento mi vida" my favourite from her album Hasten Down the Wind.
@@meni8015 Me too. I have a playlist on Spotify and her Latin songs on definitely on that thing.
Blue Bayou an enormous hit
Wow Nick you have to down this rabbit hole!
I was at that memorable MCG concert. Linda was amazing live.
Cheers Nick, yes Linda has a lot of other really good material. Would recommend Blue Bayou next.
New subscriber, love your channel mate. Nice one 👍🇦🇺👍🇺🇸👍 have a top week brother. 🤟
Linda would often showcase her band, even though she was the attraction.
That's why listening live gets one into the groove......Linda sounds great live and the band really lets loose.....
Great singer… 💯👍
She also sings achingly sad love songs like Long Long Time and Heart Like a Wheel.
7:05 What that was about was Waddy Wachtel's guitar strap coming off mid-solo and Linda doing it up for him.
"Did she make anything else that's really popular ?" hmmmmmm ... she is just one of the top female singers EVER.
she created country rock
Her band wanted to form their own band and she encouraged them to do it. " The EAGLES"
She was huge!!!!!!
Linda was the heart throb of the '70s. Does she have more? Heh.
Check out her Spanish album (Mexican heritage) and Opera.
LoL
Linda has performed just about every genre of music. Very seldom can a singer able to sing every genre of music
On guitar Waddy Waddell he is fabulous
Aanndd ... her backing band was _The Eagles_ , for crying out loud. As for the _other_ songs she did? The list is so long that I can't possibly put it in this comment. Just know that she is now a member of the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame ... and rightly so. If you want to listen to something else of hers, try "Blue Bayou". That'll put you in a mood. Guaranteed.
Make you reflect on yourself 100%
"Blue Bayou" Not sure of the spelling but put her name in it should come up. Sadly today she has a dibilitating disease and can no longer sing, but in her day she was incredible!
I'd tell her she diesn't need to sing anymore, as long as there is places like youtube, and digital format, she will be singing forever. She will never stop having fans or getting new ones! Just sit back an realize she used her god given talent as long as she could and left a legacy most singers only wish they could have had.
