You can then imagine my suprise when my brother got into keyboard making and bought these exact keys and switches. I asked him why he wanted these specific ones and he redirected me to this video. Super well edited as always. Hope you do well!
I used them heavily stock for like 4 months and yes, they do indeed clean up quite a bit over time. Just be patient before lubing and you will be rewarded.
Well done on this video. I myself with creams thought they are amazing after a break-in. they take time to get perfect. The only thing is a lot of newer people are going to be getting these without understanding spring weights, scratchiness and sound.
Wow, this is probably the best tech review bro style video that actually goes in depth and isn't surface level. Il be keeping my eye open for more like this.
In my opinion, POM switches get way smoother after at least two months’ use. I have been running Creams on my think65 for 6 months now and I have zero complaints about them at all.
Alpacas are slightly overrated. The stems don't latch on the keycaps very well and I've had instances where caps fell off of the stem during transportation. The Self lubrication is why Creams need to be broken in.
Great explanation for those who are new the the keyboard scene. But I would argue even before Taeha video on TFUE keyboard Novel cream was already pretty popular among the keyboard community. Everyone know's its flaws of being a scratchy AF switch without lubing and yet after lube it is actually one of the better sound/feel linear switches with its lower tone thocc sound.
@@hamajineo Calling kb youtunebers tech channels is like calling instagram strippers "models" like are you really?? think what you wish. Still like the vids tho
They sound and feel a million times better if you break them in first!! The sound is almost night and day, after two weeks of use compared to brand new switches!
i have some creams here since i collect switches for switch testers and stuff and my honest oppinion: they are not worth it. Can they be good? yeah probably. But they simply cant compete. This pom on pom is driving me insane. They are scratchy as hell stock. If you lube them, they feel like leather...sticky because you need to break them in FIRST before lubing... so you probably need another hotswap keyboard just to break them in and all of this hussle to go through... like why? Black inks are way smoother, work out of the box, no break in, you just lube them and you re done. And the Price difference is really small too. Or you could go with something like the Durock L7 Linears wich are even cheaper than creams and on par with smoothness with the inks and have ZERO wobble because of tighter housings compared to gateron. Only downside is that durocks are prelubed so you have to clean them first. but IF you want creams none the less: do yourself a favour and buy marketplace used creams so you dont need to break them in
Yeh, but what switch sounds like the creams plus the creams are unique to many other switches out there. Durock l7s aren't similar go creams and durock pom linear switches aren't like creams I own creams and poms I'm looking for alternatives to creams. Also, inks are way too heavy for some people including me. Creams and inks aren't alike at all so why compare.
Amazing, I spent COUNTLESS HOURS on all kinds of keeb shops, sites, discords whatever... And it took to this video for ANYONE to mention what the differences between the materials are... That's after 3 orders of different switches (Gateron Pro Silver V2, Choc Sunsets, Chocs key Tester), a split keyboard set and and and for my build. Thanks!
After having my creams since before this video came out, never lubing them, they got significantly smoother over time, to the point i almost prefer them to Razer's optoelectric switches.
@@xchclow Well lube also wears down over time and could leach into certain plastics. I don't think POM has this problem, but I did put switch films on mine and that tightened up the key travel enough to be bearable, and not wobbly, constantly scratching the sides.
@@LoverKittey 7 months later but im still considering buying novelkeys creams have you changed your opinion on them? Also do you think I need to lube them looks complicated and I don't want to screw anything up.
I’ve been using my creams for about a month and a half. I actually thought I wasted my money on the first day. Although after a month of using it, it’s comparable to my turquoise tealios but it sounds way better than the tealios
They get quite a lot better. I dstill like something about the feel of the less used keys on my board, but it wasn't a welcome feeling for regular typing.
I think this switch gets better with age. I’ve lived them, however when I have used them for months they are super smooth now. This switch requires some mileage but it’s great when you get there.
@@bottlefox They'll get better either way but TBH there's literally no way I'd break in a switch, pull it out, lube it and reinstall it. I didn't lube mine and what I'm regretting is just the spring sound. Smoothness and sound otherwise is good 4 months in. Just lube them from the start TBH.
Optical switches are the worst thing created by humanity. Their wobble can't be fixed by putting a switch film between parts of the housing bevause their wobble is caused by the lack of pins, thus lack of any stability in the plate.
Only thing I disagree about here is the sound. But I guess that’s a personal preference thing. I think creams are 10/10 sound. Smoothness leaves something to be desired though. Built my keeb about a month ago, so hopefully with age they break in and get smoother
Have they broken in? Curious. I got some in an NK mystery switch bag, I typically run Zeal switches in my boards but figured I'd give these a try. They feel much "bouncier" than what I'm used to, maybe that's because I'm typically a tactile guy? They DO feel scratchy as well, did they "self lubricate"?
that tfue taeha build is why everything is impossible to find in stock including all budget build options. i remember when novel keys had stock for weeks in budget build options now you're lucky if you can even get on a list.
I always intended to get them since they were new. Didn't end up bothering until 2020, and TBH I don't appreciate how much longer I had to wait after putting it off for so long due to stock/shipping etc. I could have just as easily settled for the Gateron Yellows and been perfectly happy. I wouldn't consider them scratchy at all though. You really have to be pressing them a certain way to have that effect. Once in a plate, pressed at speed they're smooth like buttah, sound great and have an ideal actuation force for my tastes.
I got an outemu blue keyboard a bit ago, these vids were really useful when looking for a keyboard that were decent for everything. These are really fun.
1:30 while I think this gets the idea, this isn't right. For Zeal/Gateron, neither of their housings are made out of Polycarb, rather a mixture of plastics that are kept a secret. I'm actually not quite sure what cherry housings are made out of as those seem to be a secret too. Generally though, nylon is used for bottoms, and polycarb for tops.
after seeing so many negative things about NK creams I was hesitant - But I went ahead anyway and got myself some - I've been using Tealios for about 2 years - after some Lube - the Creams are easily my new FAVE switches - leagues and bounds above Tealios in sound and feel - I LOVE the spring in the Creams and the sound is second to none - they are not as smooth as the Tealios but sound and feel and typing satisfaction are on another level - Creams ROCK !!!
Novelkeys creams are not worth it, but they are worth it if you are willing to use them for 1 - 3 months. They get better over time but I still think peeps should just buy gat yellows. Or frankensteining creamy yellows
It’s really hard to notice the scratching on the creams, if you sit a reasonable like 40cm away from your keyboard. However, once they’re lived and broken into, oh boy those switches are BUT-ERY. They feel so good, especially after 2 to 3 weeks of using. The sound amazing too, as you could tell by taeha’a videos. Tbh, I really would recommend this switch, it just has to be used for some time before it actually feels really good.
@@justinedzard yep, you should lube them first, and it doesnt affect if it will or will not be broken in. Also if u do buy it just lube it first. They are incredibly scratchy when not lubed
I think a lot of people, mainly those who are fairly new to custom keyboards, are after that thocc sound, and are forgetting about the experience and feel when pressing the keys. It's like cars. You can buy the fastest car in the world, but you may feel disconnected from the feel of the road and the full driving experience. Whereas if you were to buy a cheap Miata, you'll have one of the best driving experiences, the feel of the road and how the car is reacting to the road. It doesn't feel dull and lifeless. The NK Creams, from what I've seen from reviewers and most enthusiasts, is that they are kind of overrated. Not saying they aren't good or decent, just that they might not be what you thought they were or what you imagined what it would be like.
as someone who owns creams that are officially worn in (owned since 2019 lul) I can definitely speak on behalf of how they feel "worn in" versus brand new. if there was a way for these to be sold in their "worn in" condition I'd buy even more for future builds. Overall depending on the type of keycaps you're running (you definitely want a thicker keycap) as well as case material/plate material these can sound really great as well as feel even greater once worn in.
@@yurto831 From my understanding about 10k presses per switch. If you really want to, what I did, is press each key 50-100 times a day. Honestly depends on how much you type/how you use your board but if you go out of your way to press each key it helps speed the process up. Can’t really recall how long it took me though.
I don't get why people like you don't have more subs anyways thanks for showing me the world of keyboards now that I watch you i realise how bad my keyboard is bad but hey a keyboard is a keyboard and you gotta love it even tho it can be bad anyways see ya in the other videos
For me, you get creams for the sound. They sound pretty good imo. And also creams do get smoother over time. But yeah, they do take some work to get them smooth
@@zasler7217 Well yeah that is true, that is why some people see creams as they are not worth it as they take a lot of time and money to get them really good. But for me, I got creams just to try out more linear options since I have heard they have a different sound compared to other linears and just to see if they really are good. But yeah, it all comes down to preference at the end of the day.
I wont lie I came from taeha type's vid and recently just bought my first batch of swtiches( KIWIS) I like the sound of the tactility and price is good
I’m running these dry on my mode 80 it makes me smile they feel like them old keyboards I would use in middle school scratchy AF definitely need to be lubed
Spring swapped Creams are some of my favorite switches. The 70g bottom out is just too much when you're holding W all the time. My fingers were legit getting tired. Swapping them to 50g TX springs and giving them a generous lube job makes them one of the best sounding switches. Someone said it on the Taeha sound video but they almost sound like Mr Krabs walking lmao
My creams are on the way so we'll see how they compare to yellows/inks but from a material science perspective POM does more interesting things when you lube them. Lubed tend to soak into pom in a way it doesn't seem to in other thermoplastics. It's not porus per say, but lube tends to embed itself into the material in a way it doesn't, so they not only need more lube, once it's applied they tend to be more smoothly lubricated Im also interested in frankenswitches with a cream housing, I'm planning on testing T1 stems and a silent version (tacits) to see what that's like.
Hey i do not dislike this keyboard thing but i really prefer other types of content hamaji because you just became a keyboard youtuber at this point! But if you like this kinda videos and ur happy im happy too! See you mate!
I love these keyboard videos I love how your so passionate about such a small community I also have a question I’m trying to build a very nice custom keyboard for around 250$ can you tell me some good linear switches?
Gateron red inks are also awesome if you like a slightly lighter switch. I have a keyboard that supports optical switches so if you have a keyboard like mine, then the Gateron optical series are amazing and pretty smooth out the box, but can be improved significantly with lube!
i think that this is one of the fewer switches that i would recommend a thicker lube for. The seller i bought the lube from accidentally sent me 205g2 instead of g0 (amogus) and the scratchiness is there, but not bad at all. The thicker lube also gives it a lower, thoccier sound. The bottom out is also really thoccy. Also, when broken in they sound and feel really smooth. I would also recommend thicker keycaps for a deeper sound.
already ordered a custom build with NovelKeys Creams and then watched this vid. I just hope the "breaking in" makes it really nice if it's not already nice for me immediately. oh well.
@@seba0603 it turned out really nicely honestly. I might wanna add foam to remove some hollowness but that doesn't have to do with the switches themselves. They're super smooth and really satisfying to type on. They're not too poppy and imo just in the middle, just right for me. I personally have springs that are a bit heavier than stock, I believe they're 65g springs and it's pretty satisfying, although I switched out 2 of them for lighter springs to play osu. Overall, I don't understand why so many people hate on them, maybe it's because I haven't tried stuff like the tangerines or ink black, but I won't know for a while ig.
Why does my NK Creams doesn't have those problem with you guys ? I've been using it for 2 months and still no problem. Evrything is fine no "leathery" feel or whatsover and this hasn't been breaked in when I used it. Still creamy af

Absolutely loving the new content man, keep it up
I think a lot of people, mainly those who are fairly new to custom keyboards, are after that thocc sound, and are forgetting about the experience and feel when pressing the keys.
How long did it take wear in?
@@yurto831 From my understanding about 10k presses per switch. If you really want to, what I did, is press each key 50-100 times a day. Honestly depends on how much you type/how you use your board but if you go out of your way to press each key it helps speed the process up. Can’t really recall how long it took me though.
i kinda like the scratchy lubed NK switches they sound like two matt colour coated plastic rubbing together.
love my gat yellows, I keep them stock cause I like the sound. I've been thinking about getting a keyboard with cream switches so thanks man!
I don't really care about scrathiness, so I am exited to try these out.
at 3:00 "pbt mounted"
I don't get why people like you don't have more subs anyways thanks for showing me the world of keyboards now that I watch you i realise how bad my keyboard is bad but hey a keyboard is a keyboard and you gotta love it even tho it can be bad anyways see ya in the other videos
i dont understand a thing but i love it
For me, you get creams for the sound. They sound pretty good imo. And also creams do get smoother over time. But yeah, they do take some work to get them smooth
Enrico Silverio why would u get creams when u can get linears for the same price that are much better
Honestly, any switches you purchase outside a board, you are likely going lube-up, especially on a custom, non-HS kb. Gotta.
Question. Did you take the 14mm or 16mm springs?
@@chris.breadman not sure. If they don't list it on the Tx Website then I have no idea
@@DrBrovahkiin yeah they have to types 14mm or 16mm. Wanted to know if you know which one you got?
@@chris.breadman and he never replied.....
would love to see swithes made out of peek, it will be expensive but pretty interesting
My creams are on the way so we'll see how they compare to yellows/inks but from a material science perspective POM does more interesting things when you lube them. Lubed tend to soak into pom in a way it doesn't seem to in other thermoplastics. It's not porus per say, but lube tends to embed itself into the material in a way it doesn't, so they not only need more lube, once it's applied they tend to be more smoothly lubricated
Im also interested in frankenswitches with a cream housing, I'm planning on testing T1 stems and a silent version (tacits) to see what that's like.
how is your frankenswitches?
I actually like the scratchiness of the NK Creams
i just got mine! They are so worth it if you lube them
Also i wrote this comment before i saw the video so i just saw he literally said it in the video
I got mine from my novel keys mysteryswitch box so I'm not complaining
Gateron optical blacks are quite nice.
typing this from omnipoint switches and i'm feeling reassured
Typing this from Gateron Optical Silver switches and I'm feeling reassured, too.
Same, I'd rather use gateron black inks rather than the creams
Love your stuff Hamaji, btw thinking of doing the exact same build as the one with gmk 8008!
Great descriptive video
Hamaji has better reviews than most who are just upsellers. Like tfues keyboard /point
This guy’s a straight scientist
It’s because you have to wear them in for two months without lube and then lube them that makes it 3x smoother
Hey i do not dislike this keyboard thing but i really prefer other types of content hamaji because you just became a keyboard youtuber at this point! But if you like this kinda videos and ur happy im happy too! See you mate!
I love these keyboard videos I love how your so passionate about such a small community I also have a question
I’m trying to build a very nice custom keyboard for around 250$ can you tell me some good linear switches?
Gonna be testing out the gateron yellows soon but I’d always recommend gateron black inks :)
Gateron red inks are also awesome if you like a slightly lighter switch. I have a keyboard that supports optical switches so if you have a keyboard like mine, then the Gateron optical series are amazing and pretty smooth out the box, but can be improved significantly with lube!
Yeah I use a huntsman te rn which isn’t even a bad keyboard it’s just I like very heavy searches and the stableisers are very rattly
6:00 sooooo scratchy omg
instead of breaking in, you can use a gat bottom housing and leave everything else.
this man makes me wanna start a business on just buying keyboards and stuff and everything else to test and use em
I am so confused i have a gk61 keyboard and can i just buy the novel cream and put them in there. Someone plz help
If it’s not the optical gk61, then yes, u can just put the creams
i think that this is one of the fewer switches that i would recommend a thicker lube for.
I just hope the "breaking in" makes it really nice if it's not already nice for me immediately. oh well.
thoughts on how they turned out?
@@bigboibill1209 sheeeesh sounds good man, i might have to give them an honest go then. ty for the reply
Why does my NK Creams doesn't have those problem with you guys ? I've been using it for 2 months and still no problem. Evrything is fine no "leathery" feel or whatsover and this hasn't been breaked in when I used it. Still creamy af
The scratchiness to me is only prominent when typing slow. At a normal typing pace, I found these comparable compared to my black inks.
Why dont manufacturers lube linear switches at the factory? I think it would be an easy step to ad and it would make their products more valuable.
Hey Hamaji! I would recommend you to suggest some other (better) switches at the end of the video in the future. (The same for any other kind of review) And bc you didn't do that in the vid could you suggest some good linear switches here?
i'm not him but i have some recommendation for you
Durock Alpaca
Durock Silent Dolphin (if you are into silent switches)
Any Durock/JWK Linear
Gateron Black Ink
Gateron Yellow (Popular budget option)
@@adrestiaeagerton4069 Alpaca is where the good stuffs at
