I remember gong to Ascot in the 70's for the TT races. Racing is truly a visceral experience. I think the best racing ever is speedway motorcycles. I remember in Ventura always wanting to get a seat down low in the corner - great view even if you did catch the occasional dirt clod. NOTHING compares with a fully crossed up speedway bike hard on the gas!

My grand parents lived in N. Redondo Beach back in the 1960's, and I can remember when the sprint cars were racing at Ascot you could hear the rumble at night. ❤

I lived on Normandie right across the street from the graveyard. We used to go to the arcade and race BMX there. Some school nights it was tough to sleep with the speedway bikes going.

Harold, great informative interview about Ascot Park. Spent many wonderful evening's there watching both midget and sprint car racing. Was extremely fortunate to eventually be able to field a midget racing effort with Stan Fox who won numerous main events there including the last ever race the 1990 Thanksgiving Grand Prix.

I remember as a teenager living in north San Diego County we could receive tv signal from LA and watched racing at this speedway. I think it was channel 5? And the TV announcer was Dick Lane who was quite the character. He would always say "Woa-Nellie" whenever there was a spin out. LOL.

My dad took me to Ascot Park in the 70's. Absolutely loved it. Demolition Derby, Circle 8 and if I'm not mistaken Midgets also ran there.
    Great memories.

I met Harold at Irwindale Speedway. Bought one of his books for my dad, who was a midget car racer in his day. Harold signed the book and was very cool to talk to.
