It's SO easy for people to overlook just how much of a total badass this tiny woman is. Rindy Ross is pretty as a picture and insanely talented. Singing lead vocals then having enough wind to kill it on the saxophone like that is NOT easy. VERY underrated musician and band!
I agree with you 100%, and would like to add that she did this without showing off her skin. Many female performers after her threw all that out the window.
Whenever I hear a comment about Saxophone........Quarterflash.... Is the first thing that comes to mind! SHE WAS PAT BENATAR ON STEROIDS!!!!! #BADASSWOMAN.
Some of us knew it all along and have wondered for more than 30 years why they didn’t get even bigger. They had quite a string of hits for a while. I still love them. I should have been much bigger. Very talented.
No they won't. It's why Harden my Heart still gets played on the radio but this doesn't. It's also why Pat Benatar isn't in the R&R HOF - people are idiots.
Have to disagree. Both are great and so glad I just rediscovered Quarterflash. But Pat Benatar’s voice definitely is better. Now obviously have to give the musicianship to Rindy. Both awesome and the 80’ s is THE decade! None better.
I’d heard of her as being a cross between Pat Benatar and Stevie Nicks back when this song hit the charts. Love them and they weren’t slouches, the also had a hit with “Take another picture” and the title track to a movie with Micheal Keaton and Henry Winkler called “Night Shift”
@@jimmason8502 You'd have to point out which notes she misses, because she's fine to me. She maybe doesn't give a perfect performance, but it's close enough for rock n roll, as far as I'm concerned.
@ Kohntarkosz: Well said, you're exactly right! Plus, it's a live show! I've never heard a perfect live show, plenty of awesome ones, though. I mean when you hear Kiss live, Gene Simmons doesn't sound exactly the same as in the perfectly done studio work. Judas Priest, Elton John, Iron Maiden, Fleetwood Mac, etc, all the same. The point is, do they put on a good show and do the fans have a good time? That's all that matters. Go watch the old CalJam 2 concert from 1978. You get Ted Nugent, Bob Welch, Santana and many more groups. Lots of mistakes by all of the bands, although Santana was basically flawless. Regardless, you had about 300,000 fans having a blast. They all went home happy! As far as this performance goes, I enjoyed it. Rindy sounded great for a live show. I'm guessing this song was towards the end of the setlist. Her vocal cords seem a bit tired, that's normal for many singers this far into a set (listen to Fee Waybill 2/3 of the way through a Tubes concert). Her sax work was spot on, too. Its live, I don't expect to hear everything exactly as it was played in the studio. I've heard horrible live performances, Rod Stewart comes to mind, for me. But, maybe he was having an off day.
Wow! Rindy's sax piece at the end was absolutely stunning! This group was ahead of their time, and probably missed out on the exposure (and mostly unmerited hype) that musicians have today. I'm just hoping these guys still get royalties and are comfortable and happy.
+Lloyd Robert Yes! I get chills listening to it to this day. Crystal!! I love when she drops to her knees too -- what a great way to finish off a magnificent song.
It didn't help that many music fans thought they were Pat Benatar. I did until a year ago but am really glad I watched their videos. Rindy is flat out amazing.
I remember seeing this on MTV and feeling this was the most badass stage performance of a song EVER...Their energy was through the roof...And I've seen countless live videos of this song and even including the US Festival, none come close to this incredible rocker...
Just seeing this for the first time and no way she just pulled out a saxophone performance in the middle of a live song right after singing! Incredible!
I first saw Quarterflash on the ABC show "Fridays", and had a huge crush on the mega-talented Rindy. I still have their albums (real records) and recently made a CD copy.
Even in her youth, that took a lot of energy... Most lead singers would rather play the piano or something less assertive, or not at all, so they can put all their efforts into singing... Total props to Rindy who both sings and plays... A sax of all things... An instrument that requires strong lung power and endurance. I can see though this song is smartly written for her being the vocalist, as the sax part comes mid way to the end, and is not played continuous.
Another great performance from Rindy Ross, clearly showing her vocal and sax-playing talents. Have just watched 'Harden my heart' from the same concert - what a memorable song !
Such a powerhouse in a small frame, Always did like QuarterFlash. Someone wrote"competition for Pat Benatar" Back in them days there was no competition it was just flat out great music performed by great artist and a lot of it. Something you cannot find today, music like this was coming out every weekend for months on end. Today we are lucky to find a good song once every 3 to 5 years.
Lucas Gader I hear ya, I was fortunate to be in my 20's during the 80's and it was a very great decade indeed. Lots of great music and the digital age was ramping up. If you like music like this and want to know anything about the 80's just ask and I'll see if I can point you in the right direction. Have a great week Lucas.
This song was also a hit on the charts as well. Besides, who gives a damn? Many one hit wonders made good and relevant music well after their commercial peak, and Quarterflash are no exception.

I have been listening to music my entire life, totally in love with Rock, and the last 2 minutes of this song with Rindy and Gooch battling sax and guitar is one of the greatest live performances I have ever seen...I just wanted it to keep going on and on deep into the night ! They were all talented up there on that stage, how they could have ever faded in so short a time will mystify me forever.
They opened for Elton John at the Montreal Forum when we saw them...they brought it too!....the drummer was taking oxygen between sets....Rindy hit every note on that sax..and then some...

Rindy kicks ass!!!!
There were so many great bands in the 80s that somehow were swept under the rug they still sound great
zero autotune and sings it with 1,000% emotion. Can we go back to days like this where music rocked?
My speakers simply aren't big enough for this. Girlfriend was killing that saxophone..
80's are still one of the best decade ever. When it comes to music.
The early 80's
l'd say early 80's too. The late 80s is what turned me off of new music, but stuff like this in the earlier part of the decade is AWESOME.
I hope that someday people will really realize just how good this really is.

Damn, now that’s what a live rock band should sound like !👍👍👍
Man, I'm blown away. What a duo of sax and guitar. Great band.
From Deep Purple to Metallica, I am...
Yet, thankfully, at 11 years old this Band and Rindy blew my audiophile world up!!
This song stands the test of time. 29 years later and it still smokes!

how Rindy Ross is not a household name is beyond me
Probably because "Rindy Ross" is so very, very difficult to pronounce. Only African Bushmen can verbalize it properly.
Consummate sax w/ the sexiest voice I've ever heard. Rindy you the best in every way!
She is to me ❤
This woman's voice is haunting

That OH BABY with the little echo !!!! Chills when I hear it.
