Richard Fierro is a GREAT, GREAT, GREAT hero! He saved 50 - 100 lives. He says he's not a hero, but he certainly is. When all of the other men were running away from the gunman, he ran towards him, took a gun from the shooter and hit him with it to stop him. That act took an immense amount of courage and intelligence. I'm glad the local community awarded him with $50,000 for his very brave act. Those people he saved should be his extremely grateful friends for life. Very unfortunately he lost one of his best friends in the shooting.
He says it himself, his whole family was there. Wouldn't you try to save your daughter? It's stupid to compare him to 'other men who were running away', as most of those mean likely had nothing to win by putting themselves in harm's way. He had his family at stake.
Imagine how many more would've died if he wasn't there that night. It's just so sad. Even if we don't agree with how others live it doesn't mean they should die or be hurt. We really need to unite and love one another.

The only way to stop an evildoer, is a brave soul to face it head on and stop it! This Veteran is a hero! I served 28 months in The U.S.Army, stationed at Ft. Carson, CO, that borders the south end of Colorado Springs. Where I spent many fun nights. But that was a different time in 1973-1976.

Don't conflate this with the uvalde school shooter, this man was able to tackle the gunman down? a person with a gun couldnt shoot a person running toward them? this means the veteran had an opportunity and was able to seize on it to save everyones life. This works but running blindly into a room with the gunman waiting for you to enter so that he can shoot you and disarm you for more ammo and body armor is not the smartest thing you can do. stay safe and if you can and think you are able to disarm a shooter then go ahead but thats because you have training to disarm someone .

Because he wants his privacy, his family is still mourning. To give his family their privacy to do what they need to do without strangers with cameras he decided to do the interview in the garage.
They also might have some cultural practices that the christians might take out of context to vilify them. (This is just a guess based on thing's I've seen in the past)
If the family was concerned about privacy, then why even have the interview take place at the home at all? And if you MUST set up a film crew in the garage, why not at least move the car out instead of squeezing everyone in there like that? Why use the car as a prop like that?
