This was so good Emma! Every new gardener should start here so they won't be intimidated or overwhelmed. Just start with the basics and everything else will just come. 👍🏻🌱
Thanks Emma I literally got my plot today and haven’t a bloody clue what I’m going to do or how to start and your video was amazingly helpful so thanks x
Inspired by Tony Smith, Lifesabooch, Green Side Up, Malcolm Kingswell, Jessie at Plot 37 and you. Not sure when I'm going to find time to watch all the blogs and still get the work done on my Allotment. Have access to a large plot (0.75 of an acre). Plan is to create a community resource. Have a few volunteers in the team so far and made connections with a local food bank and support groups for survivors of domestic violence and people suffering from anxiety. I'm going to record the progress, not initially for blogging reasons but for progress reporting. Thank you for inspiring me. My seed potatoes will start chitting this week I think. Red Duke of York is one of mine. No idea what I am letting myself in for. Very little experience. But I find myself really excited. Time to graft ......
I've just got an allotment and have no idea what I'm doing, and so I'm finding your channel very helpful. Thanks for making and posting the videos! Now, where did I put my oldest boots....?
Thank You for the videos that you’re doing I have learned so much being a new allotment holder! My allotment is just a blank canvas of weeds and it is June so the weeds are growing thick and fast 😱 looking forward to more videos
My whole plot is a field of couch. So i cultivated about 15% of it last spring and covered the rest with weed barrier until January next year. No need to die trying to remove the couch 😂
When I had an allotment, my neighbour only grew spuds, onions and kale. 3 huge beds with just those 3 things in, that he rotated each year 😂 he was a lovely guy. I miss my allotment so much. But I just didn’t have time.
Hi Emma lots of good advice there , you have gave me some good ideas (thanks for that )look forward to seeing you again on the allotment’s plot take care be safe 🍓🍓
Hi Emma! This was so well done. I think a new gardener would get some great tips and inspiration from you. The only things I would add are to also look at slope and drainage (level out beds or plant things that like moisture, like celery, asparagus, cabbage, cress, rhubarb, spinach, and peas, in wet spots) and if you have slugs/snails (who doesn’t?!), consider not using wooden raised beds (the wood gives them more places to hide and breed). It was great to see how you cleared your plot. So much work, but so worth it.
I cannot tell you how many of your videos I have watched today! Thank you so much.. We are installing a greenhouse at an allotments in Putney soon.. I love the London allotments ❤
6 months into having an allotment in South London and just ordered the shed. Seeing your vid on putting it up (way back), I'm looking forward to the trials and tribulations of putting it up in mid Feb with my other half. 'What are you doing' is my wife's favourite phrase! lol. Great vids by the way.
Hi Emma, after almost 3 years of waiting, today I got an allotment! It is around 63m2 in size which is not too overwhelming. I'm a newbie gardener. I grow some vegetables on my roof garden. Due to the wind and too much direct sunlight all day if sunny, and also because all need to be in planters, my roof garden is not really thriving. I'm so excited but I am also a little scared to start it. Those allotment tenants are so nice and there is a great community feel I've never had in london. I've subscribed your channel to learn all the tips from you! ❤
I love what your doing ,your plot looks fantastic! We have a quarter of an acre and now we are starting to work the back yard ,its going to take time because of work and weather here in arizona, its starts to get real hot in March April and it last for 6 months ,🥵
Great advice ... I've done my experimental year in my Back garden ..I did the No Dig Method.. it was a Suck it and See approach.. with great success.. lost a few items but learned from that so I'm now the proud owner of an allotment.. taken on the day Storm Babet hit .. so very soggy introduction.. but I'm taking on your advice .. Excited!! thankyou . ❤
Good suggestions Emma [me thinks Monty Don would approve]! Now, if you decide to grow cucumbers, trellis them - better production and more bug free because of added air circulation. Me thinks you be saying that gardening is a life long learning experience...and I'll add should be a journey full of love, laughter and your vino of choice! Be well - many blessings! Cheers...
Hi Emma 🤗 well done and well explained....Good on you.Looking back on your videos you can really see the hard work, time and effort you've put into your plot.Look at it then a nd just look at it now 👏👏👏👏👏❤️ don't ever stop, love your videos and bring so much joy thankyou our dear gardening friend Emma 🌱🌱🌱💞
Emma- love your blog thanku. Not even watched to the end of your last video- jyst so so devastated that u chopped your tulips down!! They had lots and lots of colour and amazing structure still to offer. 😢
Emma, I received your book yesterday and look forward to starting soon. We are having a warm up next week, and can hardly wait to start logging. Love the book……
First thing I arranged was for a mate of mine to arrive with a flame thrower and after digging over the first layer, a spades depth, he went in and flamed the lot. Yes it kills worms and bacteria but over time these will grow back and if done properly you will have very fertile soil. That is after arranging to have a lorry load of Horse Manure delivered and spread, dug in and left covered for 6 weeks. So think of me as a helper but no longer a grower, as I was fed up having my crops stolen or wrecked by Neds.
Hi Emma I messaged you on fb and havnt had any notifications on RUclips since and no response on fb. I hope I havnt said anything to offend so you have unsuited me!

They were looking very messy and dishevelled and I need the space for crops sooner rather than later I'm afraid! x
But u weren’t taking them out- u were just beheading them.
Have u actually looked at how gorgeous they are when going over?

Was your friend in the Wehrmacht?
@@46FreddieMercury91 No actually he was in charge of plot allocations in my City for the local council.
great advice for all new allotment folk well presented great vlog as always one thing i would do find out ph level if your not going to no dig method
What size of raised beds do you suggest? Thank you for your help.
Hi Emma. I am in Greenwich which Borough are you in.
Plenty of good organic horse muck, do not buy that synthetic soil garbage from garden centres if absolutely possible.
I just have to ask.......
Did you really single handedly dig over that allotment?
Hi Emma I messaged you on fb and havnt had any notifications on RUclips since and no response on fb. I hope I havnt said anything to offend so you have unsuited me!
