Just finally got to throw my new 3.0 today on some oil. Put up a 617 series. The number might now impress some, but it's my 2nd highest ever.

Just had mine drilled. Stacked layout, with grips (haven't used grips in probably 10 years), and dear god does this ball move. Excited to try flattening it out and playing more in the shim and trying to transition with it since it's got some shine, but still has the strength to turn with some more speed and playing straighter. Haven't had a ball that I can throw through most phases of transition during league in a long time. Code Black did it for me years ago, haven't really had one since. Excited to see if this can do it.
This ball is 🔥! Thanks for continuing to show off the new equipment from the brands of Brunswick. Last year I picked up a Teal Rhino Pro and a Messenger Pearl. I'm still learning those balls and seeing what I can do with them and what I might need in the future. Keep up the great work.
I was starting back up into bowling (last league was in 1997) and at 66, I felt I couldn't throw a 15lb. ball and started with a 13lb. Hammer Effect. And as I started to get back into the game, I was able to obtain multiple turkeys, 4 baggers. 6 months later, I've thrown a 5 bagger and even a 6 bagger/195 game... from a 13lb. Effect! I just purchased a 15lb. Effect as I slowly worked my way up to that weight and hoping for my first 200 game with this ball. I know that with the 15lb., I stand a better chance with more 200 games as I've bowled 3 200+ games with only a 15lb. Storm Summit. This ball 15lb. Effect should be a game changer for me.
I have loved my Effect since getting it, but it's starting to lose quite a bit of hook. It's drilled pin down, so I definitely don't want to lose more. I have been using it out of box. How can I take the lane shine down just a tad, without having to take the compound off? Would a P5000D sanding pad be enough? Or is there another grit that I'd have to use? Or do I rub more compound over the existing compound? It's been so great finally finding a ball that I can keep scoring 200s with, but the last several games I've dropped a few dozen pins.
Just ordered one. Playing all THS with the hopes of being able to play on other patterns when available. I have an NU @ 4x4x4.5 and was thinking to bring this ball to 5 X 4 X 3.5
So is this suitable for a low rev/low speed bowler if it is drilled pin down? Or would you recommend a new Radical Conspiracy for that... something higher RG and low intermediate dif?
I like shiny/pearl bowling balls! Rev challenged the pearls go long and rev up on the backend better for me! The solids I have burn up and have no punch! Was going to get the 3.0 cause the 2.0 is my favorite ball but think this one will better suit me! Thanks Nick again…great video as always!
Do you think this would pair well with an Ebonite The One Encore? I got that ball about 3 months ago and I haven’t been big on its reaction. On my house conditions I feel like it burns up too much energy in the front half of the lane and then either flips early and crosses or just keeps sliding away. Ive resorted to playing tight and not giving away the pocket but that’s not my most comfortable style to throw it. I usually do a bit of swinging with other balls in the past.
I'm currently throwing an Ethos (first new ball in about 25 years). How would you say the Effect compares? Is it a lot stronger? How does the shape/reaction compare?
Do you think this would fit well in a bag of Envy Tour Solid and Envy Tour Pearl when the ETP doesnt want to make the move on the back end? Sometimes when I move in neither of the Envys make a fast enough move to kick out corners
Because they have lower differentials, they won’t be great from too far inside. Higher diff = higher flare and more ability to carry as you open your angles.
I already have the 3.0 and 2.0 Hybrid. Any room you think for this in between the two? I assume this is a touch cleaner and a bit more on the back than the 2.0 hybrid? I'm itching to see how those two compare lol.
I have been looking to add a new hammer to my bag currently I have the roto grip RST X3, the hammer 3D attack offset and a motiv RipCord… I’m looking at the widow 3.0, scorpion low flare and this Effect… I have a matched speed to rev rate but on the lower end… any you would recommend
Not familiar with the competitor brands. But if you want smoother, then Scorpion. If you want all out hook top of the bag type performance, then 3.0. If you want more skid flip, then Effect.
I love your videos. Could you help us "newbs" out a little bit and explain the terminology you are using when comparing balls. Maybe describe an example of the results you would see with one ball that would make you want to move to another. For example "opening up angles" or how do you know if your ball isnt "getting through the front part of the lane." Thanks

I am stuck between Effect or the outer limits pearl. It seems the Effect is earlier and slightly more controllable based on your reviews? How would you describe the difference now that these two have been out for a while, and maybe you have had more time with them? I have bw 2.0 hybrid and 3.0, hitter, phaze 2, RAW solid for my arsenal if that helps.

Man I have been debating on getting a new Hammer ever since they announced the Black Widow 3.0 and the scorpion Low Flare. Now they added this one ugh making it hard to decide.
That ball almost reminds me of the Taboo. I really like that new camera angle to give us a better idea as to what you are doing with your hand to manipulate the roll. Question I have is do you ever tuck your pinky finger in for more manipulation? I noticed that the top of the core does have a similar look to the gas mask. Would be curious to see how different this is to the 2.0 hybrid. Been saying it for a month now. The Hammer effect is real! Oh and BTW.....noticed we are creeping up towards 16,000 subscribers. Question; if you were to give a ball like this more or even less surface would it affect the “cohesion” technology? In other words does changing the surface damage the technology itself even if you gave it more surface?
Cohesion is in the chemical makeup of the cover. Surface will just affect how soon or late the ball will read the pattern. Always adjust to match the bowler and lane pattern. 👍🏻
So, as a newer bowler who throws 12-14lb at 13-15mph left-handed would you recommend the Hammer Effect, Purple, or Nu Blue ball? I currently use a Rhino red, black, gold. Thanks for any advice!
Hard to say. Those are very different balls. If you want a lot more hook, then Effect. If you want smoother and controlled then NU. Don’t think you need Purple just starting out.
First time long time I’ve been watching your videos and love your explanations leading to finally purchase an Effect after only throwing SPI equipment. This ball did nothing but hook stop over and over again especially 17-25 Starting on the fresh medium HS and then waited till the end of league and saw no difference on the burn. BrunsNick do you have any ideas or opinions please to help. Thank you
Hard to say but if it’s burning up either move More in to find more oil or bring the ball up to a higher gloss. It’s a big aggressive ball, even being a pearl.
I plan on using this to open up on my league, then dropping to the 2.0 hybrid. I think they will go well together so I won't have to keep moving left. Your thoughts? I hope to be able to take a straighter line into the pocket. Your thoughts? If all else fails I have the pink widow urethane....

I have DV8 verge hybrid for my middle of the bag. The effect will replace the damn good verge pearl, and the gb5 will replace my knockout. My dilemma is, I have a 2.0 hybrid. Now do I pair it with a Hammer Effect, or a Brunswick Beyond Infinity? I have a 900 Global Boost as my dry lane/ transition ball.

as a low-speed low rev guy I'm always looking for equipment that will get through the front of the lane clean and not force me left to fast but still have good hit and continuation at the pins. this looks like a ball that could do that. I don't have a problem hooking the ball as a matter of fact I can get the weakest stuff to hook, no problem. The only thing is the weaker balls don't carry very well so I opt for a higher performance ball and drill it short pin. what I haven't tried is drilling a asymmetric ball pin down, could you tell me what are the differences between pin down compared to short pin?
@brunsnick If you had to choose between the Effect or the Black Widow 3.0, which would you suggest? Right now I'm carrying a Black Widow Ghost Pearl, an Envy, a NU Blue, and a Storm Ruby IQ
Based on your bag, I would suggest the Effect. You have a strong ball up top with the Envy, now you just need something shiny and more flippy than a Ghost.
What kind of difference do you see vs the Track Theorem? From what I can see this might be the perfect step up from it with the new additive in the cover. Currently have a 3.0 at the top of my bag with a Hazmat taken down to 4000 next step down, then the Theorem, then a 2.0 Hybrid and finally a DGV Pearl, think this would be a perfect ball for the start of league when the 3.0 and Hazmat are too strong
Use a few cameras and show what your hands doing at the bottom of the swing and show where you release the ball to get it to hook… no one has ever done that
Nick, can you say what's stronger between this and the Ultimate Defender if you had both balls at the same surface? According to the ball chart at BTM the Ultimate Defender is the strongest ball on the market from anything with nearly that length. Waiting to see where the Effect falls on the graph, but expecting slightly longer and weaker at the box finish. Who knows where at 2000 or 3000. None of the reviews test with surface.
Can you bowl on lane 3 next time lol I’m thinking 45 x 5 x 45 since it has DOT I can do that one. Color looks like the old Taboo original or the hot sauce pearl & also a more recent Revenant by storm. Just the 4th color is the difference.
@@brunsnickthe Columbia Antics was 4 colors. I believe they had more that looked 4 but really was 3 mixing looking like 4 as you said. Like balls with 2 shades of purple counting as 2 colors with like 2 other colors. Columbia was bowling the world over lol
The numbers don't show if it'll work for you. What will tell you is how you roll the ball. Some people are up the back to over the top. Some tilt it completely and some have none. So your 275rev could be hook out the house or dead straight. Even if it was 350 or 450.
I just recently picked up the ghost Pearl. And I love the ball but now I'm thinking about getting the 3.0 until this video came out. Should I skip the 3.0 and just get this one? Or just buy both LOL.

I think it'd be cool to see the release, especially when you are left of 5th arrow, from the ceiling down to get a clearer picture of projection angle. This ball is mad crazy.

Still touting the 3.0. Around 40 series with it and only 3 were in the high 680s and 90s and the rest 700s with a high of 788

You have it correct! You’d want to separate the 2.0 Hybrid with some surface or layout differences to have them both. 👍🏻

I don’t know how you bowl, but yes, how you described this is accurate. I’m surprised you’re 2.0 Hybrid isn’t that ball for you already.

Question; if you were to give a ball like this more or even less surface would it affect the “cohesion” technology? In other words does changing the surface damage the technology itself even if you gave it more surface?
Cohesion is in the chemical makeup of the cover. Surface will just affect how soon or late the ball will read the pattern. Always adjust to match the bowler and lane pattern. 👍🏻

So, as a newer bowler who throws 12-14lb at 13-15mph left-handed would you recommend the Hammer Effect, Purple, or Nu Blue ball? I currently use a Rhino red, black, gold. Thanks for any advice!
Hard to say. Those are very different balls. If you want a lot more hook, then Effect. If you want smoother and controlled then NU. Don’t think you need Purple just starting out.

First time long time I’ve been watching your videos and love your explanations leading to finally purchase an Effect after only throwing SPI equipment. This ball did nothing but hook stop over and over again especially 17-25 Starting on the fresh medium HS and then waited till the end of league and saw no difference on the burn. BrunsNick do you have any ideas or opinions please to help. Thank you

More in to find more oil or bring the ball up to a higher gloss. It’s a big aggressive ball, even being a pearl.

Yes. It grips the lane well.
I plan on using this to open up on my league, then dropping to the 2.0 hybrid. I think they will go well together so I won't have to keep moving left. Your thoughts? I hope to be able to take a straighter line into the pocket. Your thoughts? If all else fails I have the pink widow urethane....
I think you maybe have to order of usage flip flopped as this is cleaner and more response than a 2.0 Hybrid.

Nick, Is the white pin on bottom of the ball illustration the "pin" or is that the bottom of ball as illustrated?
It has DOT so it is pinned on the bottom like Envy and Hazmat, but it’s not actually white like the core illustration.
Will the effect be a good choice over the blackwidow 3.0?, if i already have the 2.0 hybrid in the bag?
I’d go 3.0 if you have 2.0 hybrid

I think so, this flares quite a lot more and should be better suited when you have to move in.

Widow 3.0 and this are the perfect 1-2 if you have more ball speed. 👍🏻

Violent was cleaner, didn’t see the friction as hard as Effect.
Thanks for the reply. I'm also looking forward to the GB5 video. I'm in the market for a predictable symmetrical solid and I believe the effect and GB5 will compliment my Arsenal. I have DV8 verge hybrid for my middle of the bag. The effect will replace the damn good verge pearl, and the gb5 will replace my knockout. Thanks again for your marketing videos they are very helpful to make informed new purchase decisions. I usually buy 1or 2 balls a season.
My dilemma is, I have a 2.0 hybrid. Now do I pair it with a Hammer Effect, or a Brunswick Beyond Infinity? I have a 900 Global Boost as my dry lane/ transition ball.
Beyond will give you a lot more length, the Effect will be closer to 2.0 Hybrid. Tweaking surfaces to give more gap may be needed either way.

3.0 will hook more and roll a bit earlier. Effect will be cleaner with more flip. They’re a bit different from eachother.

Maybe! Depends on the injury, be sure to talk to your pro shop about your hand issues and see if it will help.
as a low-speed low rev guy I'm always looking for equipment that will get through the front of the lane clean and not force me left to fast but still have good hit and continuation at the pins. this looks like a ball that could do that. I don't have a problem hooking the ball as a matter of fact I can get the weakest stuff to hook, no problem. The only thing is the weaker balls don't carry very well so I opt for a higher performance ball and drill it short pin. what I haven't tried is drilling a asymmetric ball pin down, could you tell me what are the differences between pin down compared to short pin?
Pin down layouts on asyms will narrow flare like short pin but will generally be more usable when you have to open up your launch angles.
How would the Effect compare to the Track Theorem?
Stronger off the spot, more hook overall.

Depends if you want more skid flip or more heavy roll and hook.

@brunsnick If you had to choose between the Effect or the Black Widow 3.0, which would you suggest? Right now I'm carrying a Black Widow Ghost Pearl, an Envy, a NU Blue, and a Storm Ruby IQ
Based on your bag, I would suggest the Effect. You have a strong ball up top with the Envy, now you just need something shiny and more flippy than a Ghost.
My ball speeds around 13 to 14, and I have a prism solid and a fatal Venom in my bag right now
What kind of difference do you see vs the Track Theorem? From what I can see this might be the perfect step up from it with the new additive in the cover. Currently have a 3.0 at the top of my bag with a Hazmat taken down to 4000 next step down, then the Theorem, then a 2.0 Hybrid and finally a DGV Pearl, think this would be a perfect ball for the start of league when the 3.0 and Hazmat are too strong
Stronger overall and sharper off the spot than Theorem.

Use a few cameras and show what your hands doing at the bottom of the swing and show where you release the ball to get it to hook… no one has ever done that
I know personally I went from two handed to one handed and am way more accurate one handed but can’t hook it to save my life

Nick, can you say what's stronger between this and the Ultimate Defender if you had both balls at the same surface? According to the ball chart at BTM the Ultimate Defender is the strongest ball on the market from anything with nearly that length. Waiting to see where the Effect falls on the graph, but expecting slightly longer and weaker at the box finish. Who knows where at 2000 or 3000. None of the reviews test with surface.
No comment on the smell of the ball? CTD said it has a scent like Storm balls, is it true?

@@brunsnickthe Columbia Antics was 4 colors. I believe they had more that looked 4 but really was 3 mixing looking like 4 as you said. Like balls with 2 shades of purple counting as 2 colors with like 2 other colors. Columbia was bowling the world over lol

Would this ball match up to a 16mph, 275rev, senior bowler? Layout recommendations?
I'm curious too. I'm about where you are... age, ball speed, but I'm reving a little higher. About 350.
The numbers don't show if it'll work for you. What will tell you is how you roll the ball. Some people are up the back to over the top. Some tilt it completely and some have none. So your 275rev could be hook out the house or dead straight. Even if it was 350 or 450.
I’ve seen him bowl, it’ll work for you. Would be a little cleaner than your Katana Assault. 👍🏻

Depends on your rev rate, what you bowl on and if that 13-14mph is what you see on the monitors or if that’s off your hand speed.
