That would depend on which manufacturer your card is. Different AIB manufacturers have choice of different fans, with various levels of "coil whine"
He has a palit card and an Asus card. If you don't have those exact same cards, then comparing them with his cards is pointless.
Different OEMs put different parts in their products. You can't just compare the 3050 8gb with the 3050 6gb unless your cards are from the same manufacturer.

I have been wanting this video for a long time, but for some reason I could never find a direct comparison.
That's crazy because it was literally the main comparison I was interested in, like of course it makes sense to test it against something at a closer price point, but we already know the 6gb is going to be a massive disappointment anyways, so why not at least makethe comparison mildly entertaining.
If you actually want a 3050 6gb you have an incredibly specific usefase in mind, and there's probably only two cards even worth thinking about for it, (This and the A380 meet some very specific "board powered, very limited implementation of modern technology" card niche) so there really isn't much point in comparing it on a price/performance level where it will lose to the vast majority of other cards.

I think this is probably one of those products that will have a massive price drop in the future. It's also very common to see this on the cheaper phones' market, they are always released at a really high price that doesn't really make that much sense, but it quickly drops to be in line with the price of the older models, but with some technological advancement that actually makes it worth it.
I just don't understand why the performance gap between the two is so big even though they still share the same 3050 name. But I think the 6gb model consuming about half the power and running also 10°c colder is a really good thing.

The only scenario when getting 3050 6GB makes sense is if you are upgrading old office PC, so you could "game" on it, or if you are making small ITX build that does have low power budget (example: has external laptop psu etc). Power supply only from PCIe slot with no other power connectors is the only reason one would want to buy this GPU, cuz it is still better than AMD APUs, especially if you compare APU + Expensive fast RAM vs CPU + 3050 GPU. Also, this GPU only makes sense in Low Profile variant.

  • @fenrir7969

If the price was right, it would make sense as an upgrade for my old Dell workstation that doesn't have any GPU power connectors, currently using a GTX 1650. Budget AMD cards don't use all the PCI lanes so they're no good in older systems and Intel more or less requires resizeable bar so I can't use them either. My daughters just got into Minecraft so I can see 1080p with ray tracing and some DLSS working nicely there. I got my 1650 from CeX for around £80 so it's gonna be a while before the upgrade becomes worth it.

The big thing about this is that it smokes the previous reigning champion budget low profile graphics card the GTX 1650. It also smokes it's closest low profile competitor the RX 6400. It also trades blows with the previous full on full stop champ of low profile no aux power the A2000. And though the A4000 smokes it, the A4000 is also like $800. And the 4060 requires aux power and is more than twice the price. The niche is small but it is here for the 6gb 3050.

    G'day Random,
After seeing the first few comparisons with the Difference at least 15% to exceeding 20%, how confusing it is now as some retailers are not highlighting the 6GB in the title & will be on the 2nd Hand Market in the future for the same reason, I too was thinking as it is too late to change the 8GB to 3050Ti this should have been a RTX3040/3040Ti.
Don't know why the nVIDIA Naming Team didn't go with 3050Ti for the Higher Cuda Count 8GB at launch as the 3050 OEM had the same Cuda count as this 6GB & they were launched on the same day.

Power limits. The 6 GB tops at like 70W while the 8GB goes past 120W. No more juice left. If my 3060 is anything to go by, it should boost a bit higher with a well set undervolt and come closer to the 8GB version.

I bought mine as 2nd hand form CeX at 130 quid a year ago.

Massive props for making this video as a way of keeping folks informed. The original 3050 was laughably bad given the sort of prices being asked for them, even without considering the AMD competitors which aside from being cheaper would literally smoke the 3050. It's one thing to have a 1050 Ti in the same ballpark price of something like a RX570 despite the latter also outperforming the former but those GPUs coexisted in an age were GPU pricing wasn't as outrageous as we've currently seen. The original 3050 without being gimped and having the VRAM buffer cutdown was bad enough, imagine having a gimped version of an already meh product... If the original 3050 was a 180 dollar card it would actually have been decent, oddly enough. But Nvidia being Nvidia that was never going to happen.

To me the 3050 6G only makes sense in two scenarios: with the Palit KalmX version so you have a totally quiet card or with low-power PCs you can use the 6G model without additional PCIe power.
I'd still have preferred a name like 3040. It wouldn't have been the first x40-class card.
The 3050 6G is pretty impressive when it comes to efficiency though. You're losing about 20% of the performance but the power consumption is falling much more.

Low power GPUs are luxury items, at least on what I see after all of these years of GPU releases. 1650 didn't have the best price for a low power GPU when it initially launched. 1050 Ti was the last best low power at launch and idk why they didn't follow up its success.

Doesn't seem like a 'bad card' per-se, reduced performance balanced with reduced power consumption, heat, form-factor, and per-unit cost, just might not be as good value as the nvidia marketing team would like us to think - the con is mostly with the name/number, not the card itself which seems perfectly respectable.

  • @benni_w_
    @benni_w_ 4 месяца назад +1

I don't think that it's a bad card, but the price is too high (especially compared to the 8GB one) and it really angers me that it's also called a 3050 even though it's significantly worse than the 3050 8GB across the board (even in scenarios where you don't use more than 6GB of vram). Same as the 3060 8GB/12GB. To be honest I expected nothing better from Nvidia since they've done this kinda misleading crap plenty times in the past.
"Yes we have this car model. You can get it with 3 or with 5 doors. I could also tell you that the three-door-version has a weaker engine, lower top speed, worse headlights, smaller tires and the range on one full tank of gas is less - but I am Nvidia and so I coose not to. And it's nearly the same price because of course it is and we only put the different amount of doors in the otherwise exact same name."

Can you compare these 2 3050’s vs the RTX 2060 in War Thunder at 1440p Maximum preset? I had an RTX 2070 laptop that was more akin to a Desktop 2060 in performance. When I was having no issues before the GPU died after 3 years of daily gaming at 95°C, I could easily run 1440p with frame rates between 80-120 FPS. I’d assume both 3050’s would run War Thunder at the same preset at 120+ FPS.
