Such a value what you share here with us time to time, Tristano. It's really massive and remarkable.
I love watches and you make me really happy and deeply wondered all the time here. I have to really thank you!
The quality of this Omega, the design, the materials, the detail works are just absolutely outstanding.
As you said, this timepiece is just and extremely beautiful, masculine, iconic, classic as a top quality/luxury tool-watch can be.
I don't know what to do with "negatives", I always got a bit sad to hear them but it s real and must be there.
Obviously the hardest think in this World to find anyone or anything perfect,
as no one and nothing it is, so we cannot find a perfect watch either, but I found the idea to be beautiful in itself, and the fact, that how many ways are out there that people have been
trying to realise this idea, the time - measuring, for many many centuries.
Sometimes it's good to have some rest, to get beyond of everything visible and sensible in the World,
get silence and piece which holds and involves everything else vivid and mobile.
Thanks again for the great intro and review! I'm deeply impressed!
    Warm regards,
    Robert

      Robert!
I am always happy to hear from you.
You are so right, especially about the negatives. I felt rather terrible sharing them, but I had to be honest.
Very good world advice my friend.
      Thank you for sharing that.

That intro is so amazing, I think it should be adopted by Omega for their marketing on this watch. It highlights the 1950's era so well and the music compliments it perfectly along with the watch. ⌚

All three have a fantastic clean look, especially the seamaster (although as a dive watch enthusiast I would say that!). The Speedy is a superb addition - are Omega cashing in? Possibly but so what, lets celebrate anniversary models for the fantastic pieces that they are in their own right and enjoy the heritage they come with. And that bracelet is like a tank track, love it !

Omega doing the same with Seamaster. Some new pieces coming in at near $10K, chunky to boot. I was just at the high end Chinese dealer (Chong Hing) on Valley Blvd, San Gabriel Valley. If one is in LA , the large inventory of Omega's to be found there is staggering.

Well hello TGV I'm back to rude health after my operation and more wristwatch obsessed than ever.
Back to business. I'm a big Speedmaster fan and am of the opinion that it could well be the cornerstone of any serious collection. You have featured a prime example, absolutely lovely, I am however somewhat obsessed with the rather underlooked Railmaster. Sometimes less is more...

Rest up my friend, very happy to hear from you, thank you for commenting.

Fantastic review! Just one minor correction: the clasp is adjustable in 3 positions, not 2. I have the Railmaster and love it dearly. Regarding the 19mm lug width, yeah, slightly harder to find straps, but not impossible (such as B&S). Changing the lug width, although not "wrecking the esthetic" it certainly would have changed the appearance of the watch. The size and proportions are EXACTLY equal to the originals for a reason.

Great atmospheric intro TGV , can almost see the cigar smoke ! This the best looking Speedy i reckon , but used it goes for nigh on double the price of a Moonwatch in the UK .... also as you said, I m also concerned about the endless limited editions - could devalue the Speedy legacy .....

The reason some watches have the double dot markers at 12 is actually very practical. It helps determine the upwards orientation of the dial and makes sure you know the exact time at night (when there are no numerals on the dial of course). In a combat situation this is crucial. Take care !

Nice choice using Miles in the intro ;) Unfortunate that this wears so big because it is quite a looker. No doubt that people have gotten Speedy fatigue after all the variants released, but this is at least a bit more unique. Great video as always, TGV!

A beautiful watch indeed! If you would like something a lot cheaper but very similar from the same company look to the last Speedmaster Broad Arrow. No, it's not an exact copy of the original such as this new one, it is however quite similar in many ways. And it comes in a couple of different variations including a beautiful white dialed model with blued hands and markers. And of course it has that oh so cool Broad Arrow hour hand. Ciao, John

Bonus points for Miles Davis. Not so extremely exited about the 1957 watch though... Maybe because my dial shows a little bit more wear after 60 years. But i can see why you like it... I had a Seamaster for almost 15 years, and never wore it. It had that dial with the wave pattern which i didn´t like, and the diver extension tended to open on several occasions without a fair warning. Gravity did the rest, and i stopped wearing the watch.
Today there isn´t a single Omega i really like, and i don´t feel you get a real value for the money. And there are so many great watches out there. Thanks for showing us the watch, and best wishes...

Thanks for the closer look at this watch. IF I had the $$, this really would be an ideal Speedmaster model for me. The stainless steel tachymeter bezel is a big charming design detail for me. At about, probably over, $8k, it's something to really save up for.. But, I can't deny that price range there are a lot of other watches to consider.
You are correct there are A LOT of Speedmaster editions. There are a lot of choices, but it also sort of dilutes the Speedmaster stock a bit at the same time.

  • @kjeldpedersen666

    Hi TGV
Again: 100% on the coolness scale.
I agree about the “overdoing” when it comes to that faked patina. No big harm done, though...
Patina is a weird subject. Back in the 1970’s when yours truly was a teenager it was considered laughable to wear jeans that didn’t look like washed a 100 times even from bright new. I always bought them completely dark blue and was a laughing stock for 2 or 3 months. After that everybody thought I had the coolest jeans of all. Because they were aged naturally of course...
I’m still in love with that old school Omega bracelet. Even more than the bracelets on the later Speedmasters like my own beloved Reduced model. Could it be that Omega was inspired by the Rolex Jubilee bracelets on the later models...? I think that this older version matches better with that hi tech image they always seem to appeal to when it comes to their tool watches...
    Keep up the good work👍

Great video and that Kind of Blue album was one of the best recordings front to back ever😍 Just one edit... I think the Seamaster was voted numero uno in your Sub $5000 video not the Speedmaster which I recall being around eighth place or something... I might be wrong about that though. Anyways, best videos out there and thanks again TGV⌚👍

I started searching the upper mentioned watch. What I found was that there are some variations of the 57th model. Like the one in the video there is also a 57 with a date. There is also Omega Broad Arrow, both with and without date, and all seem to have the 1957 theme. So which one is the original one and what is the story behind the other models? Thank you for the video!

Completely agree with this review. The reason I bought a Seamaster 300 rather than any kind of Speedy is that the Seamaster is deceptively sleek. The Speedmasters look as though they will be thinner than they are, but end up being impractical for my purposes. I know they have to incorporate the chronograph, but isn't there the possibility to reduce the thickness, even slightly?

    TRISTANO!
Thank you for A Very “Right On” Review. Succinctly put, i am Very Passionate about this watch & Speedmasters in-particular. To me, the CK2915 is the Most Beautiful watch EVER Mass-Produced. I started with a 1974 145.022-71 & wore it for 22 years. But when I saw the 1998 “Re-Edition, (3594.50) , i traded-in. Despite the 42mm asymmetrical case, I feel Omega did a very faithful reproduction of the dial, apart from the silver sub-dial hands. I CANNOT stand that Faux Patina. “Faux” means false, and this looks phony. It just does. It’s The Deal-Breaker. When you see this dial with proper white hands & indices, it’s Breathtaking. And if Omega was so particular about being “Vintage-Authentic”, it should’ve had the 321 movement, esp. for the price. Actually, there are a few of them now for sale 2nd.hand. Tristano - i DO need to add that A Gentleman does NOT possess A True Watch Collection, without a hand-wound True Omega Speedmaster, Kappische? - Fondest Regards, Bruce.

  • @diogohra
    @diogohra 6 лет назад

Why did you say it?! Now I can't not see it everytime I look at it LOL.
Anyway, great video as usual and great watch from Omega. In fact I just recently saw some of the videos you have on Omega vintage watches: the one you talk about your Omega with that marble patina dial, the one you review the 2292 and the one you search for Omega vintage bargains on ebay. That actually inspired me to get my own Omega, so I just bought yesterday an Omega Geneve from the 60's with the 601 caliber and a beautiful patina dial for 270€ - yes, the guy has 100% positive feedback on more than a thousand reviews, and I asked him a lot of questions xD. I'm really happy with the buy and I can not wait for it to arrive!
Regarding the 2292, god I love that watch and there's actually a few on the market currently but they're all near 2k€! It's just too much for the moment. I'm really into aviation watches and I think my next big thing will be a flieger from Stowa. They're simply amazing! Now imagine I could have a flieger and a 2292: on every argument with the girlfriend I'd pop the 2292 and give her the flieger so I'd know the reason was on my side for sure and that she would eventually lose the argument regardless how bad things were for me at the moment xD

I think using the Caliber 1861 movement is the right choice especially when you consider their modern METAS certified co-axials only can manage two subdials and not three. Two subdials would change the aesthetic completely. I'd also like to ask why you think this watch is too large for you? You mention the 48 mm lug to lug distance but that's the exact same lug to lug as your ceramic Subbie. If the Subbie fits you fine this Speedmaster should as well. Plus, the maxi case makes the Subbie look even bigger IMHO. Anyway, great video. I appreciate the perspective. Keep on keeping on. Cheers.

Beautiful watch, but I agree on the question of lasting value. I’m super fortunate to have bought an early 70’s 861 in very good condition 5 years ago before prices exploded and will never part with it if at all possible. I won’t tell you what I paid as it would seem laughable now. 😀

Nice review, TGV. I completely agree with most everything you stated about the 1957 trilogy Speedy. Possibly, the most controversial issue is the substantial number of limited edition Speedies. I am not an authority by any means, however, I would analogize Omega's behavior in that regard to Montblanc's limited edition Patron of the Arts and Writer Series pieces released each year. Does that dilute the similar models? In my opinion, not really. Of course, it could be argued that the Montblanc pieces rarely resemble each other and are not a variant on a single model, but should that really make the difference in concern? I feel that the limited edition Speedies over the last 60 years give the model itself a heritage all of its own. It even may help de-value the brand slightly to the benefit of the consumer. In contrast, I feel that my other favorite brands such as Rolex and the holy trinity brands scarcity plan for its pieces to combat grey market sales is vexing to the consumer, and tends to continue to drive up prices placing them beyond the reach of consumers, even if that behavior tends to drive up the price for those already possessing the pieces at a time when they were considerably less expensive. What are your thoughts about this?

Hey guys and TUG, I'm currently thinking about getting a Speedmaster (actually I'm sure of that) in the next few months but I'm still in the dark whether I should get a Reduced or a Professional. I have very small wrists and I had to sell my Seiko Turtle a few months back because I felt it was to chunky for my wrist. So my problem now is that I REALLY want to buy the full on Professional with it's manually wound movement but I'm hesitant because of the sheer size of it and therefore looking ridiculous on my tiny wrist. The Reduced would probably fit much better and it's cheaper as a nice touch but I'm afraid that i'm going to have it on my wrist only thinking all the time that I haven't bought the "real" Speedmaster. Any opinions or experiences?

There is actually an in-between setting for the bracelet adjustment. So it has 3 adjustment positions. I wear mine on the middle adjustment.

Such a beautiful watch, the '57 Speedmaster. This seems a great edition. Great review, thanks.
I do agree with your assessment of the brand being diminished by all the variations. I understand they are a business and have to compete with the market, but it makes me a little sad - I think these Speedmasters are a work of art.

According to my best knowledge, the first who made such a watch, which was nearly the same, was Rodania with it's Geometer model. The produced it 4 years eariler than Omega did, so in 1953 (CK 2915 - 1957). Rodania used Valijoux 72. Pics are really easy to find in the Internet, like here for example: www.vintagewatch.ca/?p=817 Correct me , if I'm wrong please :) @ The Urban Gentry Cheers!

I think Omega would do well to settle on one basic speedmaster model and take a break from variations for a few years. Same goes for the complete inventory of Omega they have too many models and too many variations.

A glorious watch for those who want to own a 2915 but can’t quite stretch to it! The same goes for the FOiS, etc., etc. Let’s not forget that OMEGA exists to make a profit. Just think how many multiple OMEGA owners there must be, just because OMEGA keep on issuing and re-issuing all these different versions and models. My son doesn’t even own a watch, let alone many watches! He’d tell me that having a watch isn’t even a thing!
Who knows? Perhaps the faux patina of the lume will fade over time and then we can all stop stressing.

These days limited edition don't seem limited anymore.but this Omega trio are different. Vintage look specially the railmaster. And to top value for money of omegas all of the new releases are master chronometers approved by METAS.
we all talk of VFM watches I think in-house movement iconic heritage and just the sheer brand value Omega seem to be the most bang for the buck in any segment.

I agree about the over re-issuance of classics and current lineup since it degrades the appeal of owning an Omega. As for this model specifically, I absolutely love that bracelet---such refinement and class! The subtle updates are a welcomed change, though the odd lug width is certainly an annoyance that can be difficult to ignore.
