I’m a week into ownership on the black sandwich dial version, and it hasn’t come off my wrist. All your points were spot on. The most wearable Watch in my collection. Accuracy has been insane at less than + half a second per day.
Sweet. I bought an Omega Seamaster 300m in 1998 and I continue to wear it most days (except when I wear my Panerai PAM 002 from 2004). I service my watches every 5 years. I saved and eventually bought the Seamaster while a grad student as a reminder of that stage in life (and the Panerai when I got my PhD). Omega watches can last a lifetime. While the initial outlay is hefty for many, one receives decades of enjoyment from a premium watch. And for decades, my watches are noticed by the most interesting people and triggers genuine conversations. I collect knives and have dozens. But I have just two watches and it has been almost 20 years since I bought a watch; therefore, the cost of entry to premium watch ownership is steep, once you are there, the view lasts a lifetime. Cheers Nick and I wish you and those close to you all the best in the new year and beyond. Greg (Gold Coast) p.s. I would like to see more slipjoint content. Thank you!
While other companies play games with the water resistance ratings, Omega’s water resistance ratings are actual depths. Quoted from their website, “To ensure the integrity of our timepieces at depth, not just some but all watches are fully immersed in water and pressure is applied up to the point of the guaranteed water resistance. By submerging each watch in water we have chosen - yet again - to exceed normal testing standards.” 50 meters is deeper than I would ever go 😂
Jumping hour hand is great. It is great for daylight saving, traveling, and quick set. You just need to set the hour hand than minute hand which is a lot faster than scrolling by the minute hand only.
*Casio quartz guy here. In some of my Casio G-Shock analogs and Ana-Digi models this feature is available. But I haven’t heard of it being available in mechanical timepieces. Come to think of it I have. In some of the Rolex GMTs. But the Speedmasters from Omega really draw my eyes to them.*
But what about setting the date? You could be 15 days off when powering up the watch and does that mean you have to turn the hour hand around the dial 30 times to advance the date 15 days?? I think it makes way more sense to have a quick set date. That’s why all watches have quick set dates.
I like this version a lot but I definitely prefer the Speedmaster Professional. I'm a giant space nerd so I'll take all the moon landing references I can get!
The price is actually quite hard to beat and would be difficult to find another chronograph with better specs at this price point. I'm looking to get this one but I'm still taking my time doing research on other brands. Anyone got good suggestions?
Got my name down for this exact green dial model Currently here in the UK. But whilst I'm waiting I am wondering if its an 8k watch. Already own a hesalite moon Speedy and love it, and do think I might be better putting the money into a totally different piece 🤔. Love your reviews as always Nick
@@GU5S absolutely with you on the Tudor. This is a great watch and the green coloured dial is truly beautiful. Buy it if you can afford it and differnt enough from your moonwatch. The more I see it the more beautiful it gets.
Yeah, I hear you on the $$ verdict. There are a whole lot of watches that a richer version of me would own. The real version of me is looking forward to my $150 Chinese made, Seiko movement, mecha-quartz chronograph under the Christmas tree.
Very nice to look at - but from a servicing point of view, that monolith of a train/barrel/everything bridge is making me die inside a little 😬 and makes a bit of a joke of the display back!
If the bracelet would have a better micro extension system, smaller lug to lug around 47mm and slightly cheaper, they would sell so many of these it would be insane! In Sweden, I have to pay over 10k for this….
You're effortlessly hilarious. I love the ways you play with language. I just put a deposit on this exact reference, and your notes complement my decision. I do find it strange that the 3/4 plate conceals the complex machinery of the chronograph. But at the end of the day, I just wanted a green stopwatch. Omega's design language is far superior to the other chronograph that raised my curiosity, Glashütte Original's Seventies Chronograph Panorama Date ref. 1-37-02-09-02-63. That's a very interesting watch. But the Speedmaster '57 is just as you state: timeless. Omega doesn't design fads.
Quick set hour is fine, but is there a quick set date, or do you have to use the hour hand to go around and around until you get the date right? Because for those who have multiple watches, and given this isn’t automatic and can’t be kept on an auto winder, not having a quick set date would be an absolute deal breaker. Setting the date will take a long time sometimes and that’ll be extremely annoying.
The 60th anniversary model was more meaningful to me, and putting the 3861 into a pre space watch (the 57) would have been better than the 9900 manual wind version. That’s why I’m not getting one. Why omega has in with the heritage line of the moon watch line is a mystery to me. It should be in the two register chronograph line like the chronoscope.
Those craters housing the subdials are very nice, and the subtle moss-green tint of the face. A little thick for me but looks like it could be an heirloom piece.
Actually when worn they don't look or feel thick. bec Omega is good at designing the "chassis" of the speedmasters. Don't let paper specs stop you. Try it in person 🙂 Best regards
OMG and that's why I don't watch watch videos 🤯 they are gorgeous but down here you might just get your hand chopped off 🤣 ... really 😂...great vid as always Nicolás 👍
I was thinking of buying a mechanical or automatic chronograph a few weeks ago, and I took a look at this watch. Why do they put this big triangle at the end of the hour hand so you can't read the minute/hour totalizer subregister when it's 3PM? Form follows function, not the other way around, at least if you want to keep up the pretense that your products are fit for purpose and not just very expensive jewelry.
Very informative review on a very beautiful watch. But the price is just too expensive. I would rather buy An Oceanus OCW T3000A 1AJF which is just as stunning to look at.
Unfortunately the watch enthusiast community continues to be fixated only on a few specific models (e.g. the Moon watch) to the exclusion of equally good/better models such as this one.
Surprised you didn’t mention the phallic symbolism at the twelve o’clock position. 😂 BTW, recently purchased my second Omega from DK, the Speedmaster 300 Heritage.
Nick! If by any chance you see this comment, I'm tripping out because I found your long lost brother! Even has am edc channel just like you! His channel name is Thecollector007

Super super comfy? I'm still in awe at the dimensions and proportions. Weight too. They all seem perfect.
The amount of knowledge and details are amazing. Thank you

Ah maybe you could buy another watch or 2 to keep the industry alive. Did you get YOUR PHD in thrift? No,? buy a new watch please.
Wooahhhh nice to have you back reviewing a watch! Thanks Nick!
Really looking forward to this one Nick!

Great looking watch!! And nothing beats a tapered bracelet
I've been watching some of your reviews for knives for years and I never knew you also did watches. Nice
I have the same watch and It's my favorite.

I don't know is it too late to reply your comment now but I suggest you have a look on the Breitling B09 and B15

"Its a beautiful thing"
Amazing watch @Nick I would cough up the cash and keep it..... Hands down Beauty of a watch!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That is a beautiful looking watch tbf
No instant jump of the minute chrono hand when the second chrono hand hits 60?
Solid review Nick, but no wrist shot?
16:20 Swellulation? Best new word I have heard in a long time.

Beautiful watch!
Is the minute ring black as with the red and blue versions, or is the whole dial green and it's just a trick of light?
Which isbthe best speedmaster this one or the racing

I was hoping that you would compare the size of this beautiful watch to an Ontario Rat I. ::sigh::

1200 looks to be phallus o’clock :-
Required at this point that “quick” is > 20 mins
Speed - master😃
Hey, it's quick for me 🤣
Nick..repeat after me….SEAmaster 300… 😜
can you please wear the watch on your wrist
master coaxial...simply put, the industry's most advanced movement on the market...bar none

Damn!
$8,600. Hopefully the calipers was not metal.
Hacking seconds?
Looks good, but way to much for me!
I can probably snag it for 7k
this is ever so nearly perfect. I just dont like the tachymeter. its just so pointless in everyday lives and it doesnt look appealing
