    Hi Bennie, thank you for the video. I’ve definitely over applying the dressing to my jacket so I took your good advice by using a hair dryer and a cloth to wipe of the excess. Wah Lah! It WORKS! Thanks again.

    I was introduced to Langlitz back in the early 60s and bought my first of pants from you in 1971- I still have them. I wore them mostly for east coast enduros so they saw a lot of wear and tear. I returned them to you about few years ago for “adjustments” and some tears and you all. Did a great job. The leather has a lot of character but has lost its finish. I doubt the finish can be restored but any suggestions? I also just inherited a perfect Columbia jacket which is a bit tight- can it be resized mostly around the middle.
    Thanks.

      I believe even the most skilled tailors can only downsize with re-fits unfortunately.
      As for finish restoration on your Langlitz - yes, it's done frequently as I'm sure you've discovered by now. Good luck #LEATHERrefurb

    Hey there Langlitz - I've seen some folks with extremely shiny 10 pocket padded columbias, and some arent as much. It almost seems like they are applying some kind of product to it, beyond Leather Dressing.
    Do you recommend any type of product to give it an extreme shine, while remaining as black as possible?
    I have used *Fiebings Leather Sheen* on mine before, but it just made it extremely creeky, and left a cloudy white residue on the Jacket, so I just cleaned that off.

    • @langlitz1658
      @langlitz1658  3 года назад +6

      Hey Eric!
      Thanks for reaching out! At one time we did have a batch of leather with a higher shine than what we are currently using. We no longer receive that from the tannery. What we are using now does have a pretty medium to medium-high shine to it.
      Shine can be achieved in two ways - type of leather and possibly certain conditioner products. We don’t use those products and are not familiar enough with anything to recommend. We stick to using Langlitz Leather Dressing for all of our leather and we find it delivers the most satisfactory results. Over 73 years of using the same product we can safely say it is the best option.
      It’s tough to say what that residue might be or what’s causing it... but if you’d like to discuss anything in further detail please don’t hesitate to call the shop. I’d be happy to answer any questions you may have and even look at pictures of your jacket via email and guide you in the right direction!

    I have a leather jacket (Strelson) that has the collar darkened by neck sweat. While the jacket is cognac colorthe collar has become dark brown. So how can I actually clean the collar?
    (I don't know what leather it is, it is not a particularily expensive jacket retail must have been under 500, but it is a thick leather that survived a bicycle crash with some very minor scratches.)

    Is the leather jacket you were working on in the beginning a "finished" leather? Does conditioner still penetrate all finished leathers or with some does it just act like a polish over the top?

    • @langlitz1658

      On some jackets it's fine but we never recommend this on our jackets. Mink oil contains fatty oils and acid that can deteriorate threads.
