  • This old jacket had some issues we had to deal with. Replaced couple of worn out panels. Once we took it apart, it was apparent that it needed more work then planned. As usually we had to do what we had to do.

Steve, that's a great point about not doing something you normally wouldn't do at a customer's request. Then you'd have stuff out there that wasn't up to your standards and no one would know the customer insisted you do it that way. You'd be the guy who slapped patches on through the liner. Great work. I knew you'd replace the zipper.

The result is visually stunning but also the safety benefit the customer has now derived has made his $450 even better value if he is ever unfortunate enough to be sliding across the tarmac his jacket will stay in one piece to protect him, like it should.

    Great video Steve.
I really like to watch how you battle with yourself, that you want to keep the job on budget and also profitable and at the same time all the little things that aren’t right and bother your perfectionist nature and tendency to do every job 100% right. It’s the classic case of mission creep when you repair things.. This is why it’s so important that you find a person you trust to do jobs like this and if they make the call that extra is needed to do the job right, you have to know as the customer, that it’s worth it in the long run.

I remember when I was first married my MIL was shocked that I had never ironed a shirt....actually I was trying to iron one as she and her mom, my wife's grandmother watched...grandma finally said show that boy how to iron a shirt lol. Well she took the shirt and said you always start with the yoke. I didn't know what that was, but apparently that's the piece that you called the shoulder patch. I guess it's like the yoke that would be put across the shoulders when you hitch up draft animals. Same shape and location. Anyway thanks for bringing back a memory of those two dear ladies standing aghast with their mouths hanging open looking at me. In my defense...I had a mother growing up...why would I have to learn to do laundry and iron I ask 😅 LOL
