- It's ALL about balance remember this! ;)
A little info on the Autel EVO II Pro filters and when and why to use them and how they really can make or break your footage especially when having a fixed aperture drone. Thankfully the Autel Evo II Pro 6K is NOT a fixed aperture drone and has a variable aperture which really helps. And some info on keeping the balance in your camera settings. :) Aloha

I have always preferred Autel drones because they make the most advanced drones. But Autel has also been putting out incomplete drones, where features are not working as advertised. I have recently bought an Evo 2 Pro Enterprise V3. I have a few hundred flights and understand a little about frequencies and antennas and I will explain here to dissolve any confusion about those things. I have lots of experience with the Evo 2 Pro V1 as I have 2 of them and have done lots of comparing and troubleshooting over the last couple of years with them. The Evo 2 Pro E V3 which should have a 15km transmission I just got barely transmits as good as my Evo 2 Pro V1's, which have a 9km transmission. When you go to the transmission screen on the new Evo 2 Pro E V3, there are no options, the screen is empty, Autel has explained to me this will be done at some update, it has now been 5 months since the drone's been released. The drone is very obviously working on a 2.4Gz signal, that is a short wavelength and should have a 2 inch antenna, just like most all drones up till now. The reason the transmission is barely keeping up with my Evo 2 Pro V1s, is because they put a 4 inch antenna, which is optimal for 900Mhz frequency. 900Mhz Is a longer wave that goes better through walls, when they do the update this will be an amazing drone yes, for now, if you've had an Evo 2 Pro V1 in the past, you will feel quite dissapointed. I do get real flight times of a little over a half an hour compared to 25 minutes which everyone always exagerrates, so Autel did real good there yes. So Autel put out a new drone with supposed frequency switching, but it's not doing any of that yet and the antennas are optimized for 900Mhz, which the drone is not working on, because if it was working 15km with 900Mhz would be amazing in the city yes. Of course at 900Mhz you then get a slower waves, hence slower data transfer, so I'm not even sure if they can transmit data at 1080 at that frequency, I would be fine with 720 resolution at 900Mhz, I still see power lines good on the bright screen, right now it is 720, I can easily tell, they havent updated that either. Respectively, a 4.8Gz transmission or 5.8, would be optimas with about an even shorter antenna probably closer to 1 inch, with makes it easier to fit inside your cellphone as you go up with Ghz :-). This is a very disappointing thing that Autel is doing and I hope they do the update for the transmission soon. I paid 5k for this thing and that was one of the main reasons I bought it for. Autel has also released a new drone with something very important not working as advertised. They kept my drone in repair for weeks so I got my money back from Blue Skies, who I bought it through. I then got the same drone through Amazon and found that the feature is not working on that one as advertised either. I have considered sueing Autel but I have always liked and supported Autel, and would prefer not to do this. If Blue Skies does not end the bank case against me I will tell everyone here what this feature is a lot of people would be upset, and I would hurt Autel, I would prefer not to do this. I hope they do an update to fix this soon.
I am a long time DJI owner, who Just purchased an EVO II, and wanted some honest, intelligent, non biased information on this camera - and stumbled on your video. I watched the one, and then another - You are an Amazing Find! You explain everything in great detail - and good or bad, you don't sugar-coat it; like the "Manual Focus" issue you experienced with the software, in your Settings video. You're not "Selling lt" you're Telling It.., and you seem to know what you're talking about, and that's very refreshing.. So, I have subscribed, and will keep on the lookout for notifications of new post from you - I'll even peek-in on you to see what you think of your new Inspire II when it's published. Keep Up the Great Work!
Thanks a lot for this report Sir . This will help me a lot as it start a YT channel about my outdoors in France and bought my first autel EVO 2 drone .
Have a good one .
What joy you give me !!!! The glass of my Evo II 6K has been scratched and I did not know that it could be changed by unscrewing (I had tried but it goes very hard), as the camera costs 800$ I have not dared to make more force, your video is the first that I see, THANK YOU.
😃
Right on dude! I agree with you. The shot with the ND4 looked much smoother and natural whereas the 800th shot was too staticky looking or ridged sort of looking where the water drops on the fountain were too separated, like if you did a highspeed photograph. I just bought this same setup you have so it was very informative to me. Thanks for taking the time for all this. Marc T.
Thanks for watching!
using ND filters for outdoor landscape video / photography shooting water features like waterfalls, crashing waves and fountains is a must!
You put a useful demo here to show the combination of shutter/aperture/filter to keep the 180 rule applied even in brighter conditions. I agree that the adjustable aperture on the E2P and Mavic 2 Pro drones lets you ALMOST get away without needing filters. If you were shooting in bright sun with snow on the ground, or a white sand beach, you cant stop it down enough to stay at 180 rule. The ability to add a few stops with the Autel/Freewell filters makes them good tools to have in your bag. I realized another advantage of shooting 4k-60. At 60 FPS, you can run the shutter @1/120 so less light/bigger aperture/less filter induced stops.
Note: You kept saying "One twentieth of a second" - a bit confusing, but I got your meaning
- One ONE Twentieth of a sec, lol
Freewell makes an eight pack of ND filters for the Autel EVO II 6K Pro (ND4, ND8, ND16, ND8/PL, ND16/PL, ND32/PL, ND64/PL, and CPL filter). New the drone photography world and this was a helpful video. Thanks!
I think these Autel ones are honestly all you need. Maybe I will try and get some of the Freewell ones though and test those as well. Glad it was helpful. Which drone you have?
I am droneless 😔 but have interest in getting one, EVO Pro or DJI Pro. I can assume having a variable aperture is essential to getting the best video and using ND filters. This is one of the best videos I have watched regarding use of filters and aperture. Thank you.
Thank you. I would invest in an Autel personally I don’t think you’ll be disappointed. Maybe wait for a sale on them since holidays are quickly approaching? Having the ability to adjust aperture of course ideal not having to work around a fixed f/2.8 for example always letting in so much light.
Just got my first drone.. Autel Evo 2 Pro V2... Love it... No geofencing!
Good stuff; easy to understand the concepts. Thanks.
wow absolutely helpful
thank you
You’re welcome.
Thanks for this video and introduction to filters. My Autel Evo II pro arrived a week ago. First drone ever. Working on editing photos and you just taught me some spot on information.
Since I'm so new to this world I'd like to ask a question. I use apple products and am looking for a good photo editing platform. Do you or anyone have any advice on what to use? Currently just using the stock editing on my iPad.
Honestly I love editing on my iPad Pro! I’m a total Apple boy so that’s my thing. Use Lightroom and Snapseed honestly bouncing between those two apps you can do anything you want with images. Photoshop is alright on iPad for maybe later masking something but really not needed. I use LR to process out my RAW files and get them going and then polish off in Snapseed. Hope that helps! 🤙🏾🤙🏾
Lol i like the cut to your sunglasses all of a sudden being on but then you just take them off again lol. Great video.
🤣🙃😎
No magenta colour compared to the Freewell. More natural colour. What white balance values were you on?
Not sure usually Sunny for many of my shoots. I’m not positive what I had it set to for this though.
@@AtortAerials white balance you shot with was good

This weekend I flew the Evo 2 Pro Ent V3 in some stronger winds, with longer arms and larger motors you would hope it would perform better then an Evo 2 Pro V1. It did not, it would slow down and drop altitude and even gave me tilt warnings instead of wind warnings. They have not even programmed the FC good for the wind, this is terrible. They need to do a serious update for the FC. I've flown my Evo 2 Pro V1s in powerful winds that wanna knock you over, nothing can take that thing out of the sky, the winds yesterday were not even close to that strong and the Evo 2 Pro Ent V3 sucked badly. It took them till June 6th 2022 before they had the final FW update that gave us dual stability on the Evo 2 Pro V1 also, thats 2 years after the drone was released. So thats how long we might be waiting before they fix things with this one. I'm starting a drone company and I can't even do serious filming with this drone because the dual stability is what got the Evo 2 Pro V1 real close to the Mavic, as far as smooth flying for filming goes. So at this time if I was doing serious filming, I would still actually be using my Evo 2 Pro V1 drone. Autel is focused on making money pushing the Evo Max 4T now and other products and is taking their time with this drone poeple spent 5K of their hard earned money on. And lastly, can we please stop beating around the bush with these useless accessories and make a drop arm like we know that that's what everyone wants. Can someone who knows electronics please rewire one of those useless accessories they give us and make a drop arm. I would be willing to pay handsomly for one.
Wich onw is better for still photos, DJI Mavic 3 Classic or EVO II Pro?
Evo 2 Pro over Classic to me.
@@AtortAerials thanks. Have you tried it for photogrammetric survey?
@@benjaminesqueda2100 no I haven't I'm looking into that world now though learning.
nice done video. But there is a rule that you will get the most natural look on your footage if your shutter speed doubles the frame rate. The goal is to keep this rule by using ND Filter or play with ISO or Aperture.
How do I get the lens off Iv been trying an it won’t turn
I would hold the gimbal firm and then twist off without applying too much pressure to the lens sides if that makes sense. Twist firmly without applying pressure should come off.
Great video 👍
Thanks. I wish I had help filming. 😂
Air2 s army is still strong
Curious as to why you are always shooting at F11? Lenses perform better in the middle of their range. Closing all the way down causes defraction/softness.
www.bhphotovideo.com/explora/amp/photography/tips-and-solutions/lens-diffraction-what-it-and-how-avoid-it
I fly and try all different to see. In photography general aperture knowledge stopped down gives more depth of field but know all lenses have their sweet spots which may not be f/22 or f/11’s. I’ll read that and see what they say thanks.
Yeah you get more depth of field when stopped down that is true but at the cost of diffraction/softness. Not a great trade off in my opinion but that’s just me. But yeah, read the article and see what you think.
@@GabeStrong will do thanks.
