Big burrs baby! Congratulations Kyle! Excited to see more content and continue learning about espresso and equipment from you! I'm curious how the DF83 compares side-by-side to the new DF64p for espressos (all types of pulls), especially when paired with a machine like the Breville Infuser.
Big burrs baby! Just got my Lagom mini a week or so ago, so now I hold my breath every grinder review 😅😂 I chose the mini over the DF64 largely because of your reviews and I’ve been super happy with it so far (especially because my brew bar took a big downsizing to fit in the new apartment). Based on these first impressions, I don’t see a good reason to go with the 83 over the 64, especially since I’m most interested in high clarity filter coffee. If I was going to spend that much I’d rather get the 64 with SSP burrs. In any case, congrats on going full time, Kyle! Looking forward to the continuation of this channel 😁
Congrats on going full time! Best of luck to you and your channel!! I’d probably still go for the df64 over the 83 largely due to price and limited burr options.
Congrats on the plunge to full time! Happy to hear it's going well for you. I thought I'd mention that I for one like the side cord. My coffee space is very small for the amount of equipment I have so I keep my grinders pushed back as far as possible. Usually the cord prevents me from being able to push the grinder right against the wall.

I ordered one couple weeks ago.. BIG BURRS BABY! I will say I do NOT like the noise it makes while grinding, the speed seems way too fast and I'm skeptical that I will keep the grinder after seeing more info and videos. I hope I can be proven wrong and maybe there will be a fix in the future. Congratulations on getting to do this full time. Your videos are some of my absolute favorites. Super jealous you get to do this for a living, enjoy it man! We'll be here supporting
Big Burrs Baby .. and congrats on RUclips full time. You are and have been my coffee hero both here and on Patreon. Now I need to brew a pre-hurricane cup (am in Orlando, FL) and Ian's coming.
Big burrs baby ! Oh dayum, happy for you man, that's a pretty big news ! For us it's great because it means that you will have more time to review things and to express yourself on the platform ! 😍
You really need to try the Hey Cafe H1 grinder, it comes stock with burrs that are similar to SSP high uniformity which is great for a clear espresso. Unfortunately in north America it seem to be priced higher than in Australia by a few hundred dollars, which doesn't make it as good of a deal over there.
There’s a lot of mazzer burrs that can swap into the 83. The 151G are GREAT for filter, and can probably do turbos. I think I mentioned this and more info on some mazzer 83mm flats in the discord.
Curious as well for espresso. Where can I find a list of burrs? I see one cast burr set at my reseller and I can see one SSP 83mm with Red Speed Coating for 350$. Silverknight coating and TiN are sold out. And in the video its mentioned that SSP Multipurpose are in development.
Congrats on going full time! It's pretty exciting to see a flat burr this large at such a low price. Normally we see the 64mm flats with an espresso capable motor at around 1-1.5k and then going to 98mm flats doubles to triples that price. I will say I'm not a fan of the noise it makes while grinding, though I suppose that is something that would be only for a short amount of time anyways. The burrs running at such a high rpm seems iffy so I'd be interested in your long term use of it, especially when we've seen more and more information lately showing lower rpm = less fines = better cups. If I recall the lagom p100 you have also goes up to that high of an RPM, so it would be an interesting test to see if the p100 set the same RPM produced a similar cup to the df83 (I know the burrs aren't the same size, but if the p100 at high rpm produces a similar/same cup as the df83 and a significantly better cup at a lower rpm it might be reconfirming of this low rpm is better)
Thanks for this first impression video. I ordered one. I've been without an espresso grinder for the past 3 weeks. Had to send mine in for repairs and I don't think it's worth fixing. Thought about about the DF64P until I saw this. Waiting for your full review.
Kyle, love the comedy intro, well done. Big Burrs baby! I'm still hoping to pickup a niche zero tho, not gonna lie. Or is this better for pour over/filter (getting rid of my crappy espresso setup)
I’m sure you plan to tackle this in your final review but I’d like to see how this stands up against the Niche and single dose Mignon. Also, how was the alignment in your Mignon out of the box?
Hi Kyle, I agree with your first impressions on the Rpm. The RPM should be just 1080 in order to achieve the same circumferential speed as the DF64. Thx for the Video!
I can't speak for the alignment because my DF64 was pretty good from factory but it is a great improvement not having to push the feeder to screw in the top. I had to cut off and replace the dial as well as fix the threads on mine because of me incorrectly screwing the dial by mistake. As for the fines, I tried a few declumpers and in the end I ended up with no declumper since it produces the less amount of fines and the mess is manageable with RDT. I'd appreciate no declumper vs declumper testing in the full review of the 83 since from my perspective it's a night and day difference on the 64 and it can apply to this one as well.
Congrats on going full time! Big burrs baby! This is tempting me from my DF64 as I like the old school unctuous ($1000 word of the day) espressos over the more clean, astringent new school pulls.
I’ve been testing the DF83 with stock burrs for about a week now and it’s been alright. I’ve been impressed on the cup quality from some medium roast decaf coffees but I haven’t been loving it on my go to light roasts (all V60). I’ve been having a ton of fines compared to my Lagom mini and overall haven’t enjoyed the cups from the DF83 nearly as much. Testing this has made me fall in love with the Lagom mini all over again for how quiet it is and how easy the workflow is. Curious if you’ll still be releasing a full review of the DF83? If you do, I’d be interested on your thoughts regarding stock burrs on the DF83 vs stock on the Lagom mini and Fellow Ode
Big burrs baby! I plan to buy the DF83v2 soon actually. I want to do espresso and café creme and play with dark AND light roasts. Is the DF83 the right one for me? What do you think? :) I don't want to get an espresso grinder only and a seperate manual grinder... that's why. Thanks a lot!
Big burrs baby. I just landed a beautiful red DF64 for $400, and quite happy with it, so not motivated to upgrade just yet. Very interested for the upcoming grinder and burr comparo, though!
I like burrs baby... I'm trying to figure out my first espresso grinder. Budget wise I'm leaning towards something like this for a flat burr. Conical wise not sure yet.
I'd like an upgraded version of the 64 that does both espresso and brew like the original. 64mm SSPs are so much cheaper than 83s. I hear they are releasing a variable speed version called the DF64S this fall. There is also the Gluons G64 which is another chinese 64mm variable speed grinder that looks alot like a Lagom. Hope you get one of those or both in hand to try. And i hope it gets the same creature comfort upgrades as the P/E and the 83 have gotten (sans the side mount power cable). Looking forward to comparisons to the 64 with SSPs since its about the same price w/mods as this base price. Nice video Kyle, thanks for the overview - good luck in your full time content creator journey!
I think I'd rather have the DF83 than a 64 with variable speed. Those big burrs probably mean a much slower speed anyway, on top of less heat due to the large burrs not heating up as much.
@@veganpotterthevegan the upgrade cost when SSP drops their 83MPs probably going to be over 300 though T.T at that point your 1k+ in for the grinder. Lets assume the DF64S is a little more expensive than the 64P ($420..heh) and call it $500. Even with $200 put into SSP burrs, the total cost is still the same or under this 83 base price. I think i would prob choose 64 SSPs over the 83 Itamils that come with this.
@@veganpotterthevegan gotcha. i enjoy the niche currently, and wanted something with flat high clarity burrs to compliment the niche which already produces a nice classic espresso shot. So the SPP MP upgrade would be a must for me and im not convinced the 83mm vs 64mm is a big difference as he touched on in the video.
Big Burrs Baby! I would be interested in comparison with other single dose grinders like the Niche. Or even P64 as you previously made a comparisons with this guys little brother DF64.

Hey man, just found ya, phenomenal work, awesome quality video, great delivery, good quality stuff! I have subscribed! Big burrs baby...but actually I don't even espresso yet...YET! Will be watching more...most likely not at work...
Nice. This is a little over my “comfort zone” in terms of price, but that motor is making me think hard about it. I need a grinder that will give me a nice French press in the morning and a decent shot in the early afternoon. I know that’s a big ask, but the description you gave that this one gives chocolate and caramel notes hits my feels. I’m about to pull the trigger even though availability is still a bit spotty. This review only bolsters that decision. Thanks!
Hi Kyle! It is so great that have you here to provide such a great quality of coffee content. I can’t wait to see more of you! Back to the grinder, I don’t think their bet is for people who know little about burrs nor coffee. It is for those (us actually) who enthusiasts enough to change different burrs. Anyway, it is so great to have more choice of grinders for home for such a value. Can’t wait the full review!
Congrats on going full RUclipsr. I pre-ordered the DF64P in large part because of Kyle's video this week. Not sold on the DF83. Imperfect calibration appears exacerbated because of the burr size. Not ideal with a grinder design known to have issues with calibration.
Grats in full time RUclipsr. Looking fwd for more content. Disappointed on alignment. That’s probably my number one thing I was looking fwd to. Something straight out of the box that I don’t have to do anything. Any issues with cleaning the chute? It looks like you can remove the chute separately for cleaning without touching anything else like df64? Or is it still a lot of steps?
The chute shares the improved design of the df64. Two screws in the grind chamber open up the chute. And thank you for the congratulations. I’ll drop a short video about this update soon. 🙂
I have a DF64 V4 and had to remove the stock declumpers (kind of like the ones that come on these) for the silicon declumper so it would stop clogging, and I have had much better results with that declumper, so I'm wondering how these declumpers will hold up for espresso long term. I was offered to upgrade to a DF83 when it comes out so I would be very interested in a longer depth review of whether it performs better and how the burr options differ. Really liked this video for initial thoughts.
I experienced the same thing with those clear plastic declumpers. Clogging, tons of static, and still had more retention then the silicone declumper. I recently purchased extra silicone declumpers from EO, now I'm interested in the 83 but silicone declumpers won't transfer over it looks to small comparably
@@brian.harman yeah I'm wondering the same thing, they even include a RDT bottle with the DF83 like it needs it. The silicon declumper on the Df64 solved a lot of my issues, I'm wondering how this one will fare with the double plastic like the V4 I had so much trouble with, and if they will make a silicon one for the DF83 (or more updates to it like they did with the Df64).
big burrs baby ;) ... not sure the price + 450$ in ssp burrs make it that much more interesting than the df64 with MP ssp, or even the P64 if you're approaching that price point anyway (i mean, still almost half price... but still) .........BUT congrats on making the move toward full-time YT, wow!! may this endeavour of yours be blessed. shalom.
Big Burrs Baby 😂 I am torn apart between the p64p with Ssp HU Burrs or the df83 to go against my Niche… I read a lot comments that the df64p needs about 40sec to grind 18g with a lot of pushing and now you show us this lghtning fast df83😅
Any chance you could do a head to head with the Ceado E37s (with stock burrs) Also, worth noting is; it took over a month before my Ceado really came into its own - more so than any other grinder I've evaluated, these burrs needed seasoning! I strongly suspect the burr set may be better than your initial findings indicate.
Very interested! But only if there's a burr choice for coffee connoisseurs. I'm pretty disappointed that they haven't found a way to to put it together with lesser tolerances. Either way 700 bucks for a gateway to 83s is intriguing.
Thanks Kyle for that review! I saw in the comments that you recommend this grinder over the Niche Zero for filter coffee. What about for espresso coffee? Which one gives the best results?

Are you still planning a full review on this grinder? Big burrs baby!
Big burrs babay. I just bought a Niche zero but I think I might preorder one of these....
Thanks!
It is true, premature bellowing leads to less grinding.
Thanks Davis!
Great video. To the point. Looking forward to more content on it. I. Priced the hopper in the background was that for the DF83 or something else?
Is the wavy washer wonky? Doesn't look very sturdy.
Congrats on going full RUclipsr.
I pre-ordered the DF64P in large part because of Kyle's video this week. Not sold on the DF83. Imperfect calibration appears exacerbated because of the burr size. Not ideal with a grinder design known to have issues with calibration.
Thank you! And hopefully this is resolved soon!
Big burrs babyyyy,
Loved the video.
Especially the intro.😂
Thanks Arian!
How do you think the Italmill burrs hold up on the 83 vs. the 64P? And in general, how does the whole package stack up against the 64P?
Grats in full time RUclipsr. Looking fwd for more content. Disappointed on alignment. That’s probably my number one thing I was looking fwd to. Something straight out of the box that I don’t have to do anything. Any issues with cleaning the chute? It looks like you can remove the chute separately for cleaning without touching anything else like df64? Or is it still a lot of steps?
The chute shares the improved design of the df64. Two screws in the grind chamber open up the chute.
And thank you for the congratulations. I’ll drop a short video about this update soon. 🙂
Even $3000 grinders often need aligning from the factory. It's pretty ridiculous that nobody can deliver grinders that are tuned.
@@veganpotterthevegan option O has with both of my flat burr grinders.
@@KyleRowsell my ex had to align her P64. It was pretty good out of the box but most definitely not aligned.
The silicon declumper on the Df64 solved a lot of my issues, I'm wondering how this one will fare with the double plastic like the V4 I had so much trouble with, and if they will make a silicon one for the DF83 (or more updates to it like they did with the Df64).
big burrs baby ;) ... not sure the price + 450$ in ssp burrs make it that much more interesting than the df64 with MP ssp, or even the P64 if you're approaching that price point anyway (i mean, still almost half price... but still) .........BUT congrats on making the move toward full-time YT, wow!! may this endeavour of yours be blessed. shalom.
Big Burrs Baby 😂
I am torn apart between the p64p with Ssp HU Burrs or the df83 to go against my Niche…
I read a lot comments that the df64p needs about 40sec to grind 18g with a lot of pushing and now you show us this lghtning fast df83😅
Big burrs baby is what it's about! What is the grind range of this beaut?
Any chance you could do a head to head with the Ceado E37s (with stock burrs) Also, worth noting is; it took over a month before my Ceado really came into its own - more so than any other grinder I've evaluated, these burrs needed seasoning! I strongly suspect the burr set may be better than your initial findings indicate.
Can you please review the Varia VS3 Grinder, and compare it with these other grinders and the Ode 2
Whens the full review?
Very interested! But only if there's a burr choice for coffee connoisseurs. I'm pretty disappointed that they haven't found a way to to put it together with lesser tolerances. Either way 700 bucks for a gateway to 83s is intriguing.
Thanks Kyle for that review! I saw in the comments that you recommend this grinder over the Niche Zero for filter coffee. What about for espresso coffee? Which one gives the best results?
Kyle, do you have a link to the mirror your are using on the Flair 58?
Big burrs babyyyyy
