    “New Light on Impressionist Favorites”
By Gloria Groom, PhD, Chair and David and Mary Winton Green Curator, Painting and Sculpture of Europe, Art Institute of Chicago
The Art Institute of Chicago holds one of the most significant collections of Impressionist art in the world that have been the subject of many exhibitions over the past decades. Only recently, however, has it begun to systemically work with conservators and scientists to analyze and publish its permanent Impressionist collection in a digital and interactive format. This presentation will look at some of the more striking results of this technically focused approach to paintings by Claude Monet, Auguste Renoir, and Gustave Caillebotte to offer insights into these artists’ working processes and shed new light on the meaning and interpretation of their paintings.
