This was a great video! Again, you took us through the highs and lows of your electrical issues!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
Been following your How-To for several years. Thank you for what you do and sharing your experience sir.
Hey. Then you know that I dont do "how to" videos. I do "had to" videos, because thats what I had to do to get it runnin! Hahaha Thanks for tuning in!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 True that brother, I just appreciate you sharing. You have helped me several times before. I am in Vero Beach man, Be blessed man see you on the next one,
It sounds like a bad ground. With a bad ground its like chasing a ghost!
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
I feel the outboard gods will frown on you again and another good video coming.I get a good laugh watching these at times..Keepem coming.
No Funny! Hahaha
My best analysis brought me to conclude that: shit happens !
Hahaha! Thanks for tuning in!
Wow! That was exciting?? Fingers crossed.
Thanks again for tuning in!
Hi, love your "had to" vids - thank you. I have a 25Hp Johnson 2001 and the neutral position switch (and its ground) created this problem for me.
Pulled it apart and cleaned everything up (too much grease) and all fixed. The start button was rep[laced etc etc. Long battery cables wont be the problem. Every time you put the motor in or out of gear you will get a different result.
Regards, Gary
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
You was on the wrong side of the moon before boss! You must be on the right side now!
Yes the planets finally lined up for me! Thanks for tuning in!
I had the same problem with my vw Golf,it was two wires that had heated up that connected the solenoid to the starter. The wires were shorting.I used a starter button and ran the starter direct from the battery.Perfect answer.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
This happens every time I have taken my car in when it's not running right to a mechanic... you get there and the problem magically goes away and the mechanic can't find anything wrong and charges you $$$$$ for his time. You get it home and guess what? It starts doing it again. Rinse and repeat.... rinse and repeat. I know and feel your pain.😡😡😡
Hahaha. Thanks for tuning in!
A prime suspect is your start ground circuit through the neutral safety switch. Switch could be defective, or could be loose and going in and out of adjustment.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
You are not letting it click enough😆Be cool👍
Guess your not familiar with the dreaded one click on the solenoid. You can hold the key on all day and all you get is ONE CLICK! Thanks for tuning in!
I got a 1990 70hp johnson...was my rectifier 2 years ago ..wouldnt start...id unscrew rectifier wire from power bar, start no problem...hook wire back up run fine for a while...no start again unhook rectifer wire again ..start again no problem...put a new rectifier on no problems since..i hope you figure it out
Hey. Yeah I'm leaning in the same direction! Thanks for tuning in!
You must’ve really pissed off the outbord Gods but now there giving you a chance to right your self see you in the next real life saga 👍🤘
Thanks for tuning in!
BOAT. BREAK OUT ANOTHER THOUSAND.....love the the videos keep up the . Because I had to videos
Hahaha. No B-O-A-T around here. I'm too poor for that! Thanks for tuning in!
One thing to pass along is to put the key in the switch just enough to open the little key door so there's room for the nozzle extension on a can of WD40 and a couple of squirts always helps switches exposed to the weather- could check the trigger coil and stator connections under the flywheel?
Thanks for tuning in!
Had a 1996 50 omc that started doing that then Rectifer went into melt down cooked wire harnesses also owner thought it was gonna burn to the water. used harnesses and new Rectifer back on the water starts great.
Yeah I'm keeping an eye on mine. Thanks for tuning in!
Great you made a long video I love it bud 👍👍
I don’t know either I do know when contacts are used to make and break the flow of current can get worn out over time and will cause it to work sometimes and sometimes not. If the neutral safety switch contacts are this way it could cause it. I’ve gotten bad new solenoids before and it baffled me. If the fuse wire is frad replace it. Good luck 👍
Hey. Yeah I figured no sense suffering alone, let everybody suffer with a looong episode! Hahaha! Thanks again !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 most of us love the longer videos. I noticed other RUclipsrs doing the same with success. Good luck 👍
probably need to rewire a few cables cause of "High Resistance" in the old wire's when there is a load on it, since i saw some green copper wire's.
Thanks for tuning in!
I had a similar case years ago. It was one of the cables was rotten. Was showing the voltage but did not support the amps needed. Probably not your issue, but I’m sharing.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Appreciate that. Thanks again & Stay Tuned !
40 some year boat mechanic when I'm having trouble with starting I will jump across the starter main lugs to starter if it starts right up or spins good starters not the problem next I run a 14 wire to the ground wire off of the starter from the battery run another 14 wire to the wire that comes from the switch directly to the solenoid touch the other end to the positive of the battery if it spins the motor over good solenoid not the problem if it doesn't bad solenoid that bypasses everything on your controls so you know if the starter or and the solenoid is good or not if they're good then you need to dig into your control wires
Hey. Thanks for tuning in!
If that's one of the red connector end on the wiring harness to a black engine end connector they will arc inside and not make a good connection. It will drive you nuts. It will work and then it will not. Could be a short in the harness. Probably will do it again.
Hey. Thanks for tuning in. Yeah I eliminated the big red plug when I first got the motor. I was getting a slight voltage coming through the black/yellow wire to the power pack. Any voltage coming through that wire will kill the power pack. I tracked it to the plug. Eliminating the plug cured that problem. Thanks again !
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Then you had something making its way to ground. That's why you had a voltage drop.
I had a couple bad solenoids I ended up using the shitiest one I had all metal tape around it works every time 😅 if your jumping the solenoid and it ain't starting it's the solenoid I would say she was really flooded before
Thanks again for tuning in!
I would be inclined to renew all my wiring, the wire could have been damaged without any signs on the outside sheathing. the inner cables might be disconnecting when the wire is twisted or moved.Personally,I wouldnt trust the motor to stay running/starting.
Thanks again !
Big red plug,! 40 plus years in the heating and ac electrical and plumbing business says always go to connectors when you have intermittent wireing problems.
Hey. Yep! Thanks for tuning in!
I've been watching this channel too for several years. No offense but it seems you spend more time working on this god damn engine than you do actually enjoying it. 😆
It's been on the boat a little over 2 years now, other than getting it up and running, and the service bulletin crap way back, oh and the stall/bog situation about month ago, I'd say the enjoyment I get wins out by miles. Hahaha, I can't complain, things aren't always what they seem. Thanks for tuning in!
Jumper the ground lug on solenoid to a good ground on the motor. That will bypass the safety switches. If that works, you can know it is neutral safety or the safety on the throttle lever on the motor.
Thanks for tuning in!
You messed with the Big Red Plug, and it started working. Bad connection on the "Big Red Plug, from the control box to the motor.
Thanks for tuning in!
Dramatic footage of the capsized boat. Changing the starter made it crank faster. When you hit the key and only got a click it sounded like something was shorting. What happened after that I don't know. You finally fixed a bad connection?
Something weird happened. We may never know. Thanks for tuning in!
I’m curious what you have dropped in the water behind that boat over the years and do you need to borrow my magnet lol.
Hahaha. I have one! Thanks for tuning in!
You have a short in the wiring somewhere?
Thanks for tuning in! Still never figured it out...
Have heard the water down there is hot enough to boil eggs😂
Actually its not too bad but the chickens are laying poached eggs! Thanks for tuning in!
Major posibility it's in the key swich/ nuetral saety switch...
Thanks for tuning in!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 Its been a minute or two but I'm still watching your videos. For some reason they haven't been making it in my feed. Same with Kodi's videos come to think of it. I'm still subscribed and the bell is fully black...Hmmm, computers, go figure...
@@ericpierce4510 I hear that alot. thanks again !
@@ericpierce4510I have been missing kotys videos to now that you mention it. I’ll have to check. I thought computers were supposed to be smart????????😂
Take the battery to autozone and do a load test for cranking amps
Thanks for tuning in!
I THINK IT WAS THE STARTER.
Thanks for tuning in!
Ignition switch
Thanks for tuning in!
Blame it on the heat probably had a heat stroke 🥵 🤣
It's been brutal! Thanks for tuning in!
Bad ground on the stator clean mounths
Thanks for tuning in!
Fire ball time
Balls of fire! haha
I get the same crap as you most of the time, makes it all seam normal.. :)
Thanks for tuning in!
I had a JD lawn mower that would die when the brake/clutch was released....tested all switches, good, relays good, everything good.......Long story short, solenoid was bad.
Crazy right. Thanks for tuning in!
you need a valium and quick.ps after watching this one l need one..
Hahaha. Thanks for tuning in!
it Will be back !!!
Nooooooo! Hahaha Thanks for tuning in!
Check power and Amp draw at switch
Ugh.......She good now.
Your motor is haunted.
Hahaha. Thanks for tuning in!
That new battery was no good
No it's good. Thanks for tuning in!
Replace ignition switch
Thanks for tuning in!
WELL IT'S A NEW DAY> HOW DID SHE START THIS SMORNING??
Hahaha. No Spoilers! Stay tuned for the next episode! Thanks again !
24 volt? Fried the powerpack?
24 volt ? No 24 volts, powerpack is fine. She runs great. Gotta watch!
If you have 2 batteries hooked up in parallel it keeps the voltage the same but increases the cranking amps. Hooked up in series then the voltage goes up and crank amps stay the same
Change the key switch
Thanks for tuning in.
34:10 Only 1 explanation for why it started:
The storm scared away the Gremlins keeping it from starting. Let us thank the Storms LOL
Haha. Thanks for tuning in!
Switch
Kill switch ????????????
Thanks for tuning in!
I am still sticking to bad cell in battery I have had battery s that were dead in the morning and jump start and would start every time all day but dead again I. The morning I called it morning sickness but it was a bad battery cell. And it happened to me more then once
Why is everything working great now? Thanks for tuning in!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 You didn;t show witch battery you hooked up the last time. did you hook up the bettery out the fifth weel or the old. boat battery from your sister. And if you hooked both batterys together and it did the same thing that proves the old giffted battery is the problem and is taking all the power before it gets to your starter. as you know most of my coments have been write. From one thick headed person to another thick headed person.
@@victorremick9721 Hahaha! Yes the last battery hooked up is the old one and I showed it. This long video is freaking people out! Hahaha hard to find stuff skipping around. Go to 38:13 and watch! Old Bat, long cables, charging great! test run! Hahaha luv u man! Thx!
@@THISOLDOUTBOARD1a battery charger with desalination mode will help your batteries last longer. I’ve had mine for over 10 years and it does a great job. They are not expensive either and it shuts off when it gets to 100% . You probably already know this but I like to talk 😂
