    I'm glad I didn't stop the vid and comment-never do-before seeing the end and you figured out the charge voltage wasn't excess or unacceptable.
    On my little boat I have a 25hp, it's what I use to pull traps, cast net bait I sale. I've a 38 gal tank with 2 different pumps for different functions. One is a continuous flow of saltwater in and out the overflow while on the water. If I load and haul somewhere to re-lunch one is just a splash/jet purpose. Both pumps are 480gal flow.
    I use one EverStart marine for them, my spotlight for before dawn work, my nav light, and my trolling motor. I also have a Diehard marine for the outboard only. I used to carry the pump battery to the RV the end of every work day and put on a trickle charger instead of lifting it into the other boat and hooking it up to that one. I checked my charging voltage once from the outboard and it was 14.7 at idle so I looked it up like you did. Since then I have two 3/8th inch solid copper wires I put on the thumb screws, positive to positive etc, and just charge my pump battery on the 3 mile run from my holding pen to the ramp where I launch/load. Takes it to 13.4 volts every time.
    I'd never seen/heard the testing of cells like that before. Old, old dogs can learn new tricks.

    Your cracked windshield in van had me for a minute thought my phone inherited another crack along with the 100 cracks it already has from dropping it on concrete so many times over the past 5 years.. Can't get rid of a phone that been dropped numerous times every time breaking screen a little more then being submerged twice in water & it still works like brand new. Hell yeah baby. Glad you finally got the 🍌🍌🍌 out the boat runs better now eh? Just keep those 🍌🍌🍌 on shore they're bad luck on boats.😂

    To my understanding, most older 2 stroke out boards had unregulated charging systems, so they can cook the battery over time if the water level isn't checked on a regular basis. Also A hydrometer is suppose to be the most accurate way to check the health of battery cells . I hope you have ironed out all the electrical gremlins on the Johnny rude 60 ! Happy boating.

    just check the shop manual man! All in there for correct voltage output. the 9amp should be putting out 14.2/14.6 or so then drop right down to 12.8 or so in neutral. you can get the regulated upgrade from CDI. Smooths out the voltage curve so its easier on your electronics AND you can use any el-cheapo maintenece-free battery you like! Unless yours is the regulated version but i dont think so not until 1993/1994 with the oval port motors. sounds good cheers!

    • @THISOLDOUTBOARD1
      @THISOLDOUTBOARD1  Год назад

      Hey. I did it on something but not sure what, I think maybe on that old 70's 40 horse I had. Anyway its easy, I'm assuming you want to use the big red plug wiring harness to the key switch. Correct? You'll need the wiring schematic "wire colors" from each harness. Then just match them up, you'll have to cut the plugs off and use bullet connectors. So battery to battery, ignition to ignition, Start to start, kill to kill, choke to choke, ect, ect. I don't know what your working on but here are some schematics/color codes. maxrules.com/JOwireindex.html

      @@THISOLDOUTBOARD1 yeah, I guess that’s my only option is to cut the plugs off and match up wires. I was hoping I could keep the plugs… I have tonight to decide if I’m gonna try this with another motor I have, or go buy a freshly rebuilt 1988 30hp to replace the non running 35hp that’s on the boat, it would plug right in… my project: 1991 10ft invader boat, has a non running 1977(black plug) 35hp on it, I have a early 80s 25hp and a late 60s 33hp, both need some tlc but run(been sitting now), or I could go buy another motor 1988 30hp that runs like a top and fresh impeller and carb rebuild but has the red plug so I would need to change the controls(they come with the motor). I’m sure the boat is only rated for 25hp, I can’t find a plate on it, but it came with the 35 and I bet it’s a lot of fun with 35hp, 30hp is probably just as fun, my 25hp is for my aluminum boat and id rather keep it that way…
      I’m done dicking with the 35hp, I had it running in a barrel at home in June, when I got to the lake next day it wouldn’t start and haven’t been able to get it running since, I’ve done the fuel pump and lines, took the carb apart it looked immaculate, reset the low speed knob, everything I know to do from watching you and johnnyrude, and she just won’t run, like it’s starving for fuel still… and I think I fried the electric choke now by not unplugging the battery when I was wrenching on it and sparked the hot side of the solenoid…

      I’m going this afternoon to get this 30hp, the price is right and it runs really really smooth in the video the guy sent me. All controls and even a gas tank. 700$, can’t beat that where I am… I just want something that works reliably, I’m tired of having to baby most of my motors when I wanna use them. I had em all running good a couple years ago, then I moved and they all sat for a year… the 1988 motor I’m getting today will be my newest motor, most of my others are 1960s and early 70s cause I can somewhat work on them. But this 1988, newer for me but still probably too old to get a shop to work on it ever…. I just can’t see paying 6k+ for brand spanking new, and I haven’t found anything in the 2000s or 2010s or 2020s that would work for me, weight is an issue on this 10ft boat…

      Nope, Johnson Control/Clarios does make the EverStart but Diehard was bought by Advance Auto and manufactured for them by another battery company, BUT, Johnson made them until 2019. There's a guy I can't remember the name of-not going to look-on yt that does comparisons. He explained what companies made what, and were re-tagged for different store sales. He also did every test imaginable on 18-20 different named/some by same manufactures batteries, from 40 below for 24 hours to 130 above for 24 hours, hard drains, etc. and tested every capability of the batteries throughout. I dislike walmart with a passion, but I'm EverStart on every new battery I need the rest of my years.
