Interestingly Project Gotham Racing technically wasn't the first game of its type that its developers, Bizarre Creations, made. In 2000 they produced effectively a spiritual predecessor to PGR, a game called "Metropolis Street Racer" for the Sega Dreamcast. One could argue the original Xbox is kind of an unofficial successor itself to the Dreamcast.
PGR, sure, but not the Xbox-one game doesn't make the whole console a successor.
@@nostalgigamer
Iirc there is a whole rabbit hole of conspiracy theories somewhere involving "Xbox is Dreamcast 2", especially since Sega wanted to bring some games to the Xbox
@@nostalgigamer there's a ton of evidence out there proving that Sega tried desperately to get the Xbox to be backwards compatible with the Dreamcast and use similar memory cards with screens, among other things.
@@nostalgigamer There's more than just the game. There was definitely a certain relationship between sega and microsoft not only during the development of the Xbox but even after it's launch. There are some easy to notice similarities, such as the almost identical controller layout, but also many of the big Dreamcast hits got their sequels on the Xbox (Jet Set Radio Future, Shenmue II, Sega GT 2002, also Outrun 2 which was originally developed for the Sega Naomi which is the arcade version of the Dreamcast architecture, also ended up being an Xbox release). Also, the Dreamcast's network infrastructure, which was it's big highlight at the time (with games like Phantasy Star Online and Quake III) may have served as the basis for the development of Xbox live (I heard that rumor somewhere, not sure how true that one is).
Maybe sometime in the future, we'll get a Jump City Racer.
You should really try Enthusia Racing, basically Konami’s attempt at Gran Turismo 4
Not a bad game in my opinion good graphics and nice car selection
13:11 the Toyota Solara was a 2 door, slightly more upscale version of the Camry sedan made for the American market. It was offered with a 4 or 6 cylinder engine and as a coupe or convertible. I remember when I was little my dad had a convertible one for a while when he worked for Toyota. He missed that car when he had to give it back.
I think it’s funny how Midnight Club Street Racing was a PS2 launch title considering it was basically like a spiritual sequel to Midtown Madness 2 which was a Microsoft Windows game. I even remember on the Beetle RSI there was a racing livery promoting an early design of the Xbox on MM2.
Midtown Madness 2 was developed by a different team within Angel Studios, though, but the two games still share the same architecture.
My absolute first Forza title. Coming back to it just absolutely reminds me of all the cool stuff that Forza is missing out today. The city courses, the customization, and emphasis on real tuner cars. There's no other like it. Let's not forget tEAm4za :)
Ayooooo
nOsLiW
In case anyone wants it lmao
5:10 - I don't think that the focus on IRL racing tracks is the problem. The problem is that every developer use same tracks. So many bad/mediocre but popular tracks are in use while many brilliant tracks to drive&race are only available as mods/dlcs in niche simracing games. Also I don't think I want T10 to add more street circuits as every street track they did in Xbox One era games sucks.
And there is simple reason why are you enjoying this game more than FM7 - With FM5 came drastic change (downgrade) in driving physics which made cars more unresponsive, catching slides is riddiculously "delayed" and there is huge drag applied with slip angle that requires you to underdrive the car if you want to be competitive. This is what makes gameplay less fun in Xbox One era titles. And about content... Similar story. With new motorsport games you get much less interesting car roster with so many super/hypercars and suvs/trucks instead of odd shitboxes and budget enthusiast cars. Many cool IRL tracks were dropped in new titles while fictional circuits got much worse layouts for racing.
Upgrades are especially massive downgrade with amount of options available (and design of said options). I personally miss rear diffusers despite how bad they looked in older games. I'd wish to get more options that look like aerodynamics upgrades used in amateur/grassroots motorsport and cups around the world instead of rice'y forza aero as the only competitive option.
Texas World Speedway ending up in ProStreet was neat. Too bad that game fucking sucked when it came to recreating tracks and having decent physics. It looks nothing like the real thing.
It seems like every sim racer out there wants to be a GT3 game.
@@BrunodeSouzaLino It really hurt Gran Turismo the most since they used to have a huge focus on everyday budget cars and sports cars instead of hypercars or GT3s
I remember the indurence races real 12 hours racing with massive winnings and cool unlocks. Me and my brother would take turns doing an hour at a time then swapping drivers

it feels like the people that had passion about how a person went about playing a game all died off after 2010 or so. Once you had a certain amount of content for the player, it was just a "do what you want with it, we're too lazy besides adding achievements." Horizon 1 was the last forza game with a true feeling of progression.
Though Motorsport 6 and 7 still made you work for your reward, less wheel spins and payouts. Ultimately makes them better games imo. I still play FM7, and have already quit FH5.
Game producers are worried about sheer size, but they don't care about depth. That's why games like dark souls make a huge fuss, because they're deep games, there's a lot of stones to turn thete. After 5h of most racing games i just get tired of the lack of challenge and depth and go back to NFSU2, most wanted or prostreet, it's pretty sad actually.
It's more like games of that ilk are made by large companies whose sole purpose is making money. Taking risks could impact profits. Better make the same game over and over again with some small changes here and there. It works and people keep buying them...
Yep it all died since gaming went for business only. Creativity died along with it, now its all same boring games that asks for your wallet
True. Going back to Black Box and Slightly Mad NFS games, and the progression astonishes me.
Funny how old Forza has more visual tuning options than modern games of this series. Funny and sad at same time
It was one of the things they capitalized on at the time I'm pretty sure, more upgrade and customize options. It really is sad
Man Project Gotham Racing was WAY ahead of it's time to be honest and the fact that old Forzas are better than new ones is embarassing! Let's see what the Forza Motorsport reboot has to offer
For some reason I feel you're right. I spent more time on Horizon 3 than I did on H4 and H5 probably combined. And alot of time on FM4 and FM5. PGR2 needs a remaster. NOT a remake. I enjoyed the soundtracks
FM8 Is An Actually Good Game IMO.
Definitely A Step In The Right Direction. A Decent Sized One.
i knew forza 1 had more customization options than newer forza games, but i didn't expect it to be nfs underground 2 level 👀
The reason for the crazy car that out classes the field was to encourage trade of cars between players online. They wanted to create a trade dynamic like Pokémon and actually hired someone to create a rarity system to try and replicate that. Rarity was based on performance and based of starting region. So if you pick NA then Asia and EU cars are considered rarer and you are less likely to come across them unless you traded over live. Cool idea, not so much in practice.
The editing on this has a nice flow to it, good job editor
Editor here! Thank you, means a lot.
FM1 still stands up fairly well now
Before watching all of it.. Forza Motorsport 2 is amazing and totally holds up. Also having engine codes instead of "6.2L V8" was awesome and I can't believe they removed it.
In older FM games you can only swap engines from the same brand or manufacturer, but those motors had their real life manufactured codes in them, in their description was listed from which car were extracted from, and sometimes they could be from a specific car model that wasn't in the game.
Now, in newer ones, the engines could be called "generics", but their stats, configuration, and sometimes sound could be copied from, mostly, every car in the game. So you can have a lsx swapped beetle, or a 2jz swapped BMW m3, in all but name
Everything gets worse over time in gaming now.
FM2 is my fav of the series, though I do greatly enjoy the Hyundai Tuscani in 3.
I really like the pattern Forza has where every odd-numbered installment is themed around the color white and every even-numbered installment is themed around the color black. It's a nice touch that I hope they continue in FM8.
I’m hoping they theme the next game around being good.
looking how cars get damage with lying around debrees, how different cars with different tuning racing with each other and how brightness is more on faded side on day time races pretty much remind me of prostreet.
thanks for the video, definitely will check this game in future.
My favorite Forza hands down is Forza Motorsport 2 because it did have an actual sense of progression very much like the first one and felt a lot more like a direct competitor to Gran Turismo. And in some ways I think was better because of having more customization and more European exotics. I'm a big fan of Ferrari's, Lamborghini's, etc so Gran Turismo 4 was kind of a let down for me back in the day on that front.
oh my god, Forza has really gone through a massive devolution in terms of car customization
I mean of course it takes more time to model in new kits for new cars on new consoles, but even the cars that use the same models today as they did in Motorsport 1 (eg. Silvia S15, Skyline R34, Mazda RX-7 FD, the list goes on) don't have as many upgrades as they used to in this game, but the upgrades they still have do come from this game
Please do a video on Sega GT 2002. Similar time period and ideology. Also Enthusia. Excellent games.
That vis racing kit on the dc2, looking like a mazdaspeed rx7 is one of the cursed looking kit i've seen in a car racing game.
Forza 1 was excellent with very forward looking features. BUT man... the 30fps cap was really killing the fun. Even worse in PAL region it was a 25 fps cap !!
Really enjoying where you're taking this channel mate. Good job as always!
Thanks a ton! :)
"I don't need brakes" that one aged like fine milk XD
PGR goes unnoticed one of the greatest titles in all of racing yet noone remembers it
when the Xbox 360 came out i was 6 years old. the VERY FIRST game i played was PGR3 . i still have it to this day lol
PGR2 (outside of NFS and Midnight Club) is probably the best game from 2002-2007. Needs a remaster.
I got pgr4 on my 360 and still play it
4 player PGR was the way forward. Many days spent skipping uni lectures to play.
@MinoltaToyotaDude36yooo Minolta good to see you here.
the saints row 2 pause music near the 14 minute mark drove me nuts, just picked that game up again recently and thought I left it running lmao.
not gonna lie this was best 3 minute intro i have ever watched
forza 1 thru to 4 were the best in the series in my opinion, the career mode in 2 was perfect. 2 ditched night for some odd reason. 1 has a special feel to it, feels need for speedy in the city slash industrial zones and simulator in tracks.
I love the saints row 2 menu music during the critique section. I'd recognise that anywhere lol
I played it on launch, my sister gave me a burnt mix cd for my birthday and I remember racing along to the tracks burnt to my Xbox hard drive :) The drivatar system was quite ahead of it's time and there was a good selection of NA/EU/JDM cars, not to mention some good real life circuits and fictional (
Shoutout to your sister 😄
@@DustinEdenYT she had good music taste actually :) Radiohead, Incubus, Led Zepplin, Nirvana, Pink Floyd...
Handling is much better than gran tursmo. Even GT Sport and 7.
@@sukhdevr3489 for sure.
love those quick history lessons before actual gameplay
I'm enjoying the brilliant P3 OST in the background from your last few videos so far, nice touch :)
i personally dont think either GT or Forza are superior, they each have their own strengths and weaknesses, ive played a ton of both of them and have no preference towards either one, i like them both equally, and thats ok, not everything has to be better than something else.
Agreed. It's the same to me when it comes to Forza and NFS. They're great in their own way
I like Forza Horizon way better
Eh for what it is, Forza doesn't do anything particularly well. It does a bunch of stuff decently. Gran Turismo on the other hand does one thing, Racing, extremely well. as well as most of what forza does decently or better
@@JustifyTheseHeathens i beg to differ, drifting in forza is waaay better than in GT and handles it very well. GT7 the drifting is better but still not as good as forza IMO
@@JustifyTheseHeathensHandling on Forza is much better and responsive.
I actually have this game and it’s really fun and challenging enough and it’s good to see some light be shined on the game after almost 2 decades
9:19 uff the menu soundtrack of asphalt 8 is god
I remember freaking out when I realized all the city tracks in gt were based on real streets have been meaning to make them in Assetto
I hear that FM4 menu music, well done👍
3:17 only ogs know where that sound is from
When a game from 2005 beats current-gen installments in everything
I remember the first time I saw my brakes starting to glow, thought it was so cool. This is the classic car game I always want to go back to, alongside TDU and Gran Turismo 2. Such good memories!
Man your content is so good. Deserves more subs man
It was funny seeing you playing the game during the stream.
at least After taking the wrong package with all the CDs, you could've give It back and get your actual package x) (i laughed so hard when you told that story)
never thought persona 3 ost woul be blending in with racing game review, ggwp
For a game that came out in 2005 for the OG Xbox it still looks beautiful
i've driven saabs since i was 17 (31 now) you still can't beat the bang for the buck. ESPECIALLY THE VIGGEN AND GRIFFEN 9-3s. can't forget the aero trim models too
It personally sucks that no one outside my family is gonna experience and understand the nostalgia of Forza Motorsport 1 that I grew up on to this day.
8:59 BlackPanthaa would be proud
9:04 *Hyundai Coupé Turbulence*
(That's the old Tiburon's facelift, just in case.)
Always good to see another video from you man you are really underrated youtuber (in my opinion)
I appreciate that! 💛
You should check the "gran turismo" but having more a realistic physics and kinda same in terms of music but slightly different aesthetic on game make more realism even for 2004 game.Exclusive for ps2 back then, yes made by konami,Enthusia Professional Racing, that is also good game.
playing this online was such a great time! It’s a very good game.
Even before Forza, Sega GT 2002 tried rivaling Grand Turismo as a more realistic style racing game. That was a game that I believe was sold as a package deal with new Xboxes on release, and it really was quite good for the time.
Never played 2002, but I remember Sega GT on the Dreamcast. That was a weird game. The cars just felt so strange, like hovercrafts.
@@emlyndewar The handling model is completely different and fixed, and imho ms saw sega gt 2002 and it inspired them to make their own gt rival. Could even buy used parts in it . If it was the same handling as the dc one, you wouldnt have people leaving comments saying its good.
Graphics are pretty impressive for original Xbox. Nice!
The handling physics in this game are brilliant. I wish any ps4 racing game had physics like this.
Just a little note: PGR comes from the Dreamcast game Metropolis Street Racer (MSR) even the hud and car controls are almost identical, besides the Kudos points that carried to PGR 4. I miss the franchise
Got the new dreamcast Racing game?
@@TempoLOOKING new? I don't get it, are fans creating games for Dreamcast today?
ruclips.net/video/JJR8pB9TJEY/видео.html
@@semu8030 theres indie releases on dreamcast to this day.
How many persona songs are used here? I understand that anybody can use them without copyright, but there's so many that it had to be intentional.
19:19 this feels like how i treat NPC drivers in every other forza game lmao
I have genuinely not enjoyed a racing game as much as I did this one... So many fond memories of customising cars and racing them on Laguna Seca or the Nurburgring.
I have a memory of engine swapping that Saab with the engine from a Ferrari F355 but I'm not sure if that is some weird crossed memory or if you could do that. Either way, I absolutely ruined the Saab but had so much fun.
Good times ❤️
I had both the Playstation and the Xbox of the time and found Forza to be superior to GT in almost every aspect. I especially liked the ability to create liveries on cars and then sell them in the "marketplace". Making Lambos dressed as black & white US cop cars was fun but the fact that you could do this and then see your creation being driven on track by the very person who bought it and you would say, "I did that".
GT has always been superior.
Awesome video Eden!
Wait did you get it to be emulated or is this coming from a 360?
16:37 ah man this track was a nightmare for the 4yo Victor.... and it still my nightmare
Is that a Celica in the thumbnail?
Physics are sverely underrated. Handling is brilliant.
I SERIOUSLY miss racing games with fictional city based tracks :( I replayed Project Gotham Racing 2 recently, and it EASILY has my favourite tracks in it from any game ever. I'd take those tracks over real life tracks any day, they're so much more fun and interesting
Revorik disagrees
the NR was in PGR aswell
Forza wasn't their first attempt, neither was Project Gotham Racing, it was Sega GT 2002. Despite being originally intended for the Dreamcast, I feel like it should still count.
I find it surprising that Dustin made no mention of the soundtracks, Junkie XL made some huge bangers with this game.
My introduction to Forza was this game after I bought a pre-owned Xbox Crystal, spent so many hours and loved this game to bits, able to play custom music from your Xbox hard drive as you raced, the controller was better as well because the triggers gave more control over the speed and braking. It's a shame over the years they stripped more customisation features and tracks such as Fujimi Kaido.
Interestingly in FM2 they renamed the test track to the name of snakes
GT4 will always be the nostalgia game for me and i never had an xbox but this actually seems better, better sounds, better damage, more modifications etc
Yh and handling is a lot better
@@sukhdevr3489 also PORSCHE, FERRARI AND LAMBORGHINI
@@t3hgir Yep a lot more high performance cars
@@sukhdevr3489 and yet!! the game stayed respectable and representative of JDM car culture, with many real life visual upgrades for the JDM cars in FM1 and perhaps the freqent pre-tuned JDM prize cars were an ode to Gran Turismo 2??? I believe in FM1 you unlock like 2 similar tuned Integras and 3 tuned MR2s lmao.
As far as circuits... including Tsukuba - Fujimi Kaido - Twin Ring Motegi - Tokyo Street Circuit (miss this layout...) and Suzuka to be added in later titles.
For me in Forza 1 they achieved a great balance of "yes, gran turismo is why we are making this game, JDM 4 lyfe" but also "let's make a better racing simcade experience..."
@@t3hgir Yeah this game needed more tracks and stronger upgrades to cars like the zonda, saleen s7 and cc8s but the handling alone makes this game great
You should play Forza Motorsport 3 and 4
If you liked the career of 1, certainly you will like what 3 and 4 has to offer
I just bought Forza 1! Looking forward to playing it!
Just finished FM, now playin FM3
Microsoft be like: “Mmm this looks like a good game..”
*copies it*
ahh man, you should've titled this better (like put Forza 1 in the title). Ive been dying to see you talk about this game and yet here its been all along. So glad I found it!
Same case here
That Opel would give that NSX-R a bloody nose. Classes were on point.
I loved the first Forza! Its such a nostalgic game for me now too! 😊👍
i dont see the tires configuration, it was the main mod to do, also you had to make configuration to the car tunning according the weather, track and car weight, gts class and above where harder, tons of power and very lightweight
Some of this tracks was in the pgr 4 or 3. I don't remember.
Project Gotham 2 has the Nurburgring too.
Yeah, I miss this kind of career structure. Forza switching to seasons really took the fun out of things and I feel like they'd rather reward you with credits nowadays instead of cars.
That piss yellow Integra is gorgeous, what you say is blasphemy
Does the twin tower attack affected the realease of the 1st gen Xbox?
Tell me you’re driving manual though.
Great viddy
i miss the street tracks and tuner demo cars
5:02 Am I the only one who thinks the track gives Juiced 2 flashbacks?
Just realised it you're right
8:40 i swear some people would put supra bumper on anything
Each game has its own strengths and *quirks* and unique *features* and i'm glad that the FM and GT titles are generally different from each other.
The diversity is cool and you can always chose which game you want to play, based on its unqiue atmosphere and vibes.
Forza went from a racing game to placing first doesn't matter but you spin the wheel to win a God damn beanie. What the hell happened there?
I had one of those saabs (not viggen tho) and it would easily gap bimmers and merchs even tho it only had 250hp
I like how we can engine swap, like sticking a Supra engine into a Corolla
I was slightly confused bc I heard persona 3 boss music
I'm surprised dusten never played Toca race driver
playing this game and trying to unlock every single arcade car was so hard, my brothers would ask if I was playing the racing game because they didnt want to be around me when I just screamed at a racing game.
Fm7 does have a rio street track similar to the fm1
Lots of childhood memories with this game
What we want, is BeamNG damage modelling, Gran Turismo car and track selection, and forza customization.
19:06 Is that Persona 4 music?
Yup, title is "Castle."
