Midnight Club is technically Rockstar's first racing game, but it's a little more complicated than that. Angel Studios made Midtown Madness and Midtown Madness 2, among other things. Rockstar partnered with them to create the first Midnight Club game (with the same game engine as Midtown Madness 2). Not long after that, Angel Studios was acquired by Take Two and renamed to Rockstar San Diego.
This game is still my favorite racing game today. Not only was the cockpit view and functional gauges ahead of its time but Rockstar even made working Odometers. It will track all the miles you put on a car, and most even have a trip meter that resets when you go back to the garage. The licensing for real brands from Borla and Zex to Apple, T-Mobile and Pizza Hut made the game feel very immersive. This game needs a remaster or the modding community needs to take it over
Honestly, I love MCLA's California atmosphere and sense of life. There's just something about watching the time of day change and the other racers driving around the city that feels so alive. And also the sense of building up a wicked garage slowly and earning money and reputation to unlock stuff. Having to work to earn cars and upgrades is so much better than Forza Horizon's wheelspins.

This game to me is a mix of emotions. I really like this game because of its good level of customization which actually, this is one of the games that made me start trying to make liveries of my own, sure they were eyesores back then but to have the creative freedom to do so especially when by the end, you basically are given full freedom over what car you buy and customize. The races were exciting, the dialogue during races are funny and just how much detail this game has. Like cops paying attention to traffic violations, or how racers will not race you to the start when cops are nearby, cruise control to help you stay under the speed limit when cops are nearby, being able to drive away during a traffic stop and just how densely packed the city is. Honestly i spent my entire playthrough avoiding getting cop trouble and just cruise around the city following the traffic laws until i reach a racer to challenge (which made going to the racers more difficult XD) because the cop chases in here were quite intense at times especially since I believe you're not allowed to have your car reset when you turn upside down during a chase and its an insta bust, dont get me started on the bike. I also loved the payback mission more than delivery, but both have different levels of fun. On the other hand though, this game was very frustrating to play especially on later stages, i remember having so much trouble at the DUB tournaments and especially the Time Trials. Luckily i knew the trick in time trials to make them easy but purposely going at a slower time because the time will always be beaten the first and second time. Regardless though, I had a blast when i played this game, and i even played it twice. The vanilla version on xbox360 (which sadly broke) then the complete version on ps3. I really wished they made more midnight club but like you said in the video, its better for the series to end on a high note than turn into a senseless cashgrab rockstar keeps making games into these days.
Wow, look at that traffic density! How could NFS Unbond have such a dead and empty city, if even a 360/PS3 can handle all this traffic? Also, I have to play this game
A flaw with that is that it made the races particularly stressful but a quirk that I liked is how even if I hit a ass of car in full speed it doesn't count as a crash so it keeps the pace going. I wish more racing games did that honestly as it encourages more aggressive racing
What a really time capsule of last great racing games. Forever stuck in 2008 Hip Hop DUB culture, but the Graphics, Gameplay still holds up until this day.
Even though the Midnight Club games weren't simulation games, you felt like you were driving a car. In today's (arcade) racing games you feel like you are driving an arrow and not a car. No game has given me the online experience that I had playing at Midnight Club Los Angeles. It is simply the best street racing game to date. The game was awesome but the online racing was insane and despite its arcade driving, your skill was rewarded. Not like now, racing games have too many aids for those who have no skill.
best thing of this game is that when you race, the checkpoints are far away from eachother and you can basicly choose your own route to the new checkpoint without getting respawned or something. I hope they will bring it back in the new game
this game brings back so many memories, there was nothing like playing this on a saturday morning in 2009. i was 7 years old, im 20 and halfway through college. time flies man. my favorite racing game to this day, the atmosphere, the music, the online mode, rate my ride. unlocking the audi r8 through the social club "driving test" was pretty cool too lol. one of the biggest things that made me love this game was the city, it felt alive. there was so much traffic and pedestrians every where. it felt like a REAL city, and not an empty playground like current NFS games. the races didnt feel repetitive cause of this, the amount of random traffic helped with replay-ability so much. the difficulty in this game felt good, i remember losing like 2 of my cars to pinkslips and having a friend come over to get my cars back when i was younger lol.
Always playing through this pretty well, especially, the Lamborghinis dominate the endgame with their AWD drivetrain, making them very grippy in handling, which i always face the same AI with those when maxed out. Also many users use the Ninja ZX-14 or 1098R due to how overpowered they are, that they can accelerate faster and maintain high speeds on sharper turns to compensate for their very high risk, which makes you get thrown off when hitting traffic, being less durable, and taking a lot longer to get back on after being off the bike.
I'm so glad you played and loved this game! It's such an amazing game and series. LA was a game I put so much time into. I especially loved the editing. The YTP style phone calls and cutscenes were such a fun surprise 😂
Loved playing midnight club LA back when I was 12. I recently booted it back up and the nostalgia was real. One thing I really loved about it was when you were in cockpit view and you look behind you, you’ll actually look through the back glass of the car, from my recollection I’m pretty sure this was the only game that utilized the rear glass view.
This video opened up to me just how much attention to detail this game has. The traffic sounds, the realistic car rev vibration, the dirt in the air as you race (dirty Los Angeles), the crash physics, and especially the sky coloring and clouding. It’s no wonder this game still feels so immersive
Thank you for showing this game to the Public and bringing it back to popularity :)) I played it when i was a kid and loved every second of it. Thank you for bringing back those childhood memories :))))
I'm so glad that this game works via Xbox backwards compatibility and I could pick it up digitally too. I've always been a fan of it but never got to play it up until this point. Definitely a splendid racing game which we can cherish some more this way.

Dustin I have been binging your content for a couple days and I literally last night looked through to see if you had done a video on this game yet. Little did I know it was coming so soon. Fuckin Wonderful
Midnight Club: Street Racing was my first racing game that I played on the PS2 back in the day. I also played a ton of Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition, especially in split screen mode with a friend of mine. Fun times and great games.
This game reminds me of when I grew up in Santa Monica. Before the homelessness and drug crisis, it was a nice place to live. We would go all over LA and not fear being robbed or stepping in crap. Thanks for reminding me that this game exists. Really takes me back to those good times.
The unpatched difficulty wasn't just harder, it was straight up sadistic. Rubberbanding to put Most Wanted to shame, AI pulling NoS out of thin air, absurd acceleration and grip, some even launching before you...
I truly believe that there are people within Rockstar who want to do another Midnight club and know that considering how dead racing games are they'd make money but whenever they mention it the Top brass just tells them to put their ideas in GTA.
Loved Midnight club the customization was great making changes even down to the color of your gauges it's insane to think it came out so long ago. I'd love to see Midnight Club return, imagine if they returned and gave us Japan just surprising everyone including NFS the Crew and Forza Horizon
sad that this game never got a PC release, I love to play it on my PS3 but the 30FPS and the agressive Motion Blur kinda annoyed me back than. It often feels slugish do to 30FPS. The PSP Version is also really fun and technically a masterpiece
If the entire Midnight Club series had released on PC back in the day then the series would have possibly eclipsed the Need for Speed series in both sales and popularity. Especially with Midnight Club 3 and Midnight Club Los Angeles.
Midnight Club 3 Dub Edition NEEDS a remaster INCLUDING the og soundtrack & new tracks, a new map, & some new car models. Id also like a new game in the franchise as well, but an amazing remaster sould really revive the hype around the franchise. Idk why racing games got thrown to the wayside like it has. Likely because these companies only really wanna do online multiplayer, instead of couch co-op. Either way this game needs some revitalization
The logic i can think why mid night club is no more is that GTA5 basically have extremely similar race elements that surely are taken from this game, and they would say it's a waste of resources to have two games doing practically the same purpose even if midnight club can be more detailed and focused on the racing aspect, maybe if gta5 was not successful we would still have midnight club around.
Bruh ive been waiting for a midnight for years, these games were my childhood and my all time favorite racing games. Ive bought mindnight club LA several times on different platforms over the years and havent regretted it once. I love it.

A flaw with that is that it made the races particularly stressful but a quirk that I liked is how even if I hit a ass of car in full speed it doesn't count as a crash so it keeps the pace going. I wish more racing games did that honestly as it encourages more aggressive racing
@@shawklan27 sounds awesome to me, I will certainly pick up a copy of this game soon to experience this myeslf
Optimization
the game is quite well optimized especially for ps3 since how complex it's architecture is
What a really time capsule of last great racing games. Forever stuck in 2008 Hip Hop DUB culture, but the Graphics, Gameplay still holds up until this day.
Still have decent racing games after 2008, nothing is about to be stuck in 2000s tuning culture.

I remember buying a racing wheel just for this game, being immersed in last place.
lol
The dialogue scenes edited like ytp is my new favorite thing. Good job editor!
I just wanna say thank you to the editor who did the YTP edit at 3:20
Thank you for E N J O Ying, my friend.

To this day no other game beats midnight club LA’s driver seat view. In most games the steering wheel looks like it barely turns
GTA 4 and MCLA were two of the best childhood experiences Rockstar provided us during 7th gen console era. Unforgettable
"This camaro now looks way cleaner and better"
The horrid blacked out spoked rims 💀💀
this game brings back so many memories, there was nothing like playing this on a saturday morning in 2009. i was 7 years old, im 20 and halfway through college. time flies man. my favorite racing game to this day, the atmosphere, the music, the online mode, rate my ride. unlocking the audi r8 through the social club "driving test" was pretty cool too lol. one of the biggest things that made me love this game was the city, it felt alive. there was so much traffic and pedestrians every where. it felt like a REAL city, and not an empty playground like current NFS games. the races didnt feel repetitive cause of this, the amount of random traffic helped with replay-ability so much. the difficulty in this game felt good, i remember losing like 2 of my cars to pinkslips and having a friend come over to get my cars back when i was younger lol.
Yes!
9:50 bro was going to turn around to go look at the billboard LMAO
This game had soooo many details that were genuinely amazing for its time.
Looking at some of the cars added to GTA Online you can see they still have a love for real cars, I hope they eventually make a new Midnight Club.
LOVE the pink slip mechanics in Juiced 1 and 2! I really hope someone makes a game with it again.
can't believe they ditched smugglers run as well, that series was awesome
This video opened up to me just how much attention to detail this game has. The traffic sounds, the realistic car rev vibration, the dirt in the air as you race (dirty Los Angeles), the crash physics, and especially the sky coloring and clouding. It’s no wonder this game still feels so immersive
Congratulations for reaching 50k subscribers Dustin!
I nearly bought it digitally and then remembered I had the disc on the shelf. Pretty pleased it works as I never managed to complete it before my 360 red ringed.
"If they make another"
They won't. There was allegedly one in development around 8 years ago, but it got cancelled early on because they made so much money selling shark cards.

I've played midnight club 1 and 2, had so much fun with them, but I never played the others. I've been missing out cuz this game looks like a bunch of fun. My love for waypoint races and pink slips came from this series!
As a former Californian from LA now living in Tucson, AZ, this game feels like home, and it's my favorite of all the MC games.
I wish Rockstar gave this series another chance.
Dustin I have been binging your content for a couple days and I literally last night looked through to see if you had done a video on this game yet. Little did I know it was coming so soon. Fuckin Wonderful
One nice detail is, that gas station repairs will replace broken body parts with others that have just a Grey basecoat
Midnight Club: Street Racing was my first racing game that I played on the PS2 back in the day. I also played a ton of Midnight Club 3 DUB Edition, especially in split screen mode with a friend of mine. Fun times and great games.
BASED well done man.
Babe wake up, Dustin just uploaded!
James had a lot of fun editing the cutscenes lol
A Brand new Midnight Club would be insane
This game made the Audi R8 my dream car.
A little over 3 minutes in and it turned into an old ytp
Well, that’s the humor of 2010-2016 RUclips
one of my favorite childhood racing games ngl
This game reminds me of when I grew up in Santa Monica. Before the homelessness and drug crisis, it was a nice place to live. We would go all over LA and not fear being robbed or stepping in crap. Thanks for reminding me that this game exists. Really takes me back to those good times.
That wonderful feel when you see a new masterpiece DustinEden video. Props the the editors too, they always do a lovely job!
The unpatched difficulty wasn't just harder, it was straight up sadistic.
Rubberbanding to put Most Wanted to shame, AI pulling NoS out of thin air, absurd acceleration and grip, some even launching before you...
I am addicted to that MAN skit. It is so well done MAN.
This game was a massive part of my childhood. Thank you for covering it. The map lives on in a way thanks to GTA V.
Your editor is in godmode for this video
I truly believe that there are people within Rockstar who want to do another Midnight club and know that considering how dead racing games are they'd make money but whenever they mention it the Top brass just tells them to put their ideas in GTA.
"Your girlfriend found me."
*talks backwards*
"ohhhhh"
Loved Midnight club the customization was great making changes even down to the color of your gauges it's insane to think it came out so long ago. I'd love to see Midnight Club return, imagine if they returned and gave us Japan just surprising everyone including NFS the Crew and Forza Horizon
This game is truly way ahead of its time, decades ahead of its time, its just so amazing
Yeah, no other game came even close to it in terms of immersion
Dieses kurze RUclips Poop Editing am Anfang bei dem ersten Charakter Dialog = Perfektion 👌😂
sad that this game never got a PC release, I love to play it on my PS3 but the 30FPS and the agressive Motion Blur kinda annoyed me back than.
@@CyanRooper Only Midnight Club 2 get a PC port.

MCLA predicted the Hellcat/Demon 😮💨
What a great video! Thanks for the time spent editing :D

Lovin’ the YTP edit on cutscenes😂
Idk how I ended up on this video but calling miles “freedom meters” is the best thing ive ever heard 🤣. Im stealing that.
Nowadays Rockstar really prefers to rerelease GTA V over and over again than revive Midnight Club
I didn’t think much about the game when I first saw the thumbnail, but after watching this video, I want this game now.
It's so interesting how close the gta 5 map is to this map, if you know the gta map layout then you basically already know where to go in this game
Man I just found your channel, and the humour is insane 😂
Love all the way from Zimbabwe 🇿🇼🙌🏾
Game is more alive than Forza Horizon 5
i gladly watched this whole video this is by far my favorite video game of my childhood, amazing video man love it!!!
A Bit Like Maxpayne3 being focused on Gunplay or The Warriers focused on hand to hand.
Its like gta except you can never leave your vehicle
Midnight club had such a good run. It's just unfortunate that rockstar games killed it
I still think about the days of driving my Impala SS in that game some times
Still probably my favorite racing game. if not definitely top 5. Still get on it every now and again.
I came here from your Midnight club 3 No Buying cars challenge , it was amazing 🙌
God, I miss this game so much. So many good memories ;-;
Get an xbox and you can play them again! The nostaligia factor holds up extremely well and you’ll be glad you played it again.
Bruh ive been waiting for a midnight for years, these games were my childhood and my all time favorite racing games. Ive bought mindnight club LA several times on different platforms over the years and havent regretted it once. I love it.
