    I had the privilege of seeing Prince many times (36) between 1998 and 2014 in the UK and Switzerland.
    My favourite gigs were Montreux 2013 but also the many aftershow he did at London's IndigO2 small club. Those aftershow were a tour-de-force where he played songs he liked and didn't have to perform the hits.
    He feels very 'aftershow' here. He's playing what he needs to play for himself, not what he thinks an audience will need to hear. I love that. Melodic but it doesn't have to go to the 15th fret and ring out within 60 seconds of him playing.
    Love that you're going through the lesser known clips. Just my imagination from 1988 Trojan Small Club bootleg might be a good one - soundboard audio only but he goes transcendental on the guitar.

    According to everyone who knew him and worked with him if he wasn't recording, he was rehearsing if he wasn't rehearsing he was performing. His rehearsed his band 8-12 hours a day. They had to be able to follow all of his cues on stage, start and stop, jam or just repeat a line on command and dance. He also had no problem showing them how to play their parts correctly and fineing his band for mistakes. And he played all the instruments better than they did. They had to know 100-150 songs each tour because he'd change set lists up til he hit the stage. There are rehearsal videos of the Purple Rain tour on RUclips. He didn't rehearse while my guitar gently weeps with the rest of the rock n roll hall of famers but I think that's the only time I know of he didn't rehearse

    • @YesYouCANPlayGuitar
      @YesYouCANPlayGuitar  2 года назад +4

      To have that level of performance I could definitely tell there was a lot of rehearsing involved. 100 - 150 songs to memorize was crazy. One time I worked for a band (who paid me well but it was a local gig not even close to a gig like playing in Prince's band) but I had to know 80 songs and solos note for note perfect and back then I felt it was a bit much, I was constantly having to go over them. But again if it was Prince's band, I would have been happy to have been there and would have done whatever he expected of me that's for sure.

      Hi Tommy. I agree 100%. A triple rectifier the head alone was usually over 3k, then you need a cab. If you are gigging frequently you need a back up head too. I've always been a fan of the Peavey 6505+ myself, more affordable with killer tones...
