    I own both the Atrium & Verite Closed. I find the Atrium to be very flexible when it comes to the source chain and genre's of music. I find the Verite to only be used w/ a good tube amp as the solid state amps I've tried (Soloist GT, Ferrum Oor, iFi Sig Pro) just was a NO for me.
    Zach has said that you are going to get the most out of the Verite on tubes and I completely agree. I would not recommend buying the Verite if you don't have a good tube amp or have no plans to invest in one. The Atrium works w/ EVERYTHING I've thrown at it.

    As a physicist by trade, not knowing where Beryllium is on the periodic table but knowing EXACTLY why it’s a great material for a transducer is the most physicist thing ever

    The Verite Closed (as I hear it) sounds really fine with a good Silver cable. It tightens the bass and makes everything more alive and transparent. I like it with a Meze Silver cable and also like the sound from a Draug Silver. Vocals are silky and organic and also realistic with lots of humanity and detail, again with a silver cable. Just my experience here (using some decent solid state amps). I feel the same way Wave Theory does about the VC in his comments in this video from 19:52 to about 22:45. ( I think I have the same sonic preferences as Wave Theory after watching lots of his reviews, FWIW.)
    But for me, the Verite Closed is just addictive and musical [sorry about the cliche]. They just have lots of substance in the sound. And they don't assault your ears or shriek at you or make you cringe. And the staging is never strange, pulling to the right or left too much or collapsing into the earcups. I never feel like I need to use a balance control to get a good front and centered soundfield. The Verite is just a really compelling listen.

      I actually use high quality copper cable for VC, what tightens and give life to VC are proper tubes. Those are beasts but cable "magic" is not enough you need classic power of tubes

    Great review and I'm happy to hear this has been your favorite ZMF headphones so far.
    I wanted to ask your personal opinion, with the HE1000 at their new price and the Atrium around the same price, which one would you buy/recommend personally? I already have an Arya Stealth which I love, but I do think can be a bit fatiguing after a while. What would you recommend? Is the HE1000 V2 more resolving or both are about even in perceived detail?

    • @wavetheorysound
      @wavetheorysound  Год назад +4

      Thanks. I'm a Hifiman fan boy, at least for their open backs. I think the HE1000v2 is a significant step up from Arya in detail retrieval and staging accuracy. I also think it performs better than ZMFs across most music genres. The fatigue issue, for me anyway, is often ameliorated by getting more controlling source gear and/or a headphone cable made of OFC. I was really surprised how much the treble sweetened and long term fatigue decreased on HE1000se moving from a Corpse Grave Digger to a Plussound X8, for example.

      @@wavetheorysound Oh wow that's very helpful! Thank you for the information, I never heard about the Plussound X8 cable, my amp/dac is the EF-400 which is pretty good for treble control. Have you ever tried the Hifimans with the Moon Audio Silver Dragon cable? I heard that's a pretty sweet pairing, just want to make sure cause they are all very expensive 😅

    Great review, also another small correction. The driver is 20% coated with Beryllium and not full.
    Will you be reviewing Auteur Classic? I think it’s ZMF’s current sleeper pick and honestly their most naturally tuned to my ears!
    Recently picked it up as well as Caldera, and actually find myself using Auteur Classic in many cases. My Verite O still gets some listening on tube for more classic rock and guilty pleasure enjoyment
