If you are I/c of an heritage railway. Why would you preserve a “Class 31” when you could present a Brush type 2.? They look sooooo much better (to me) 55/ E E type 5s are the same. Original paint scheme is FARRR better (IMHO) .
The 31 isn't preserved, it was hired in to cover the Whitby services as it has all mainline safety equipment fitted, but is prototypical for the line, personally its nice to see paint representative of the era after the early 70's, as too much of the heritage scene sits in the BR 1948 - 1970 era which while nostalgic for some, doesn't have the same appeal to others.
She wont be steaming for a very long time possibly in the next 10 years from what ive been told as i work there and the staff have said it wont be back anytime soon

No, its stored in Pickering Carriage stable, awaiting full overhaul
