Yamcha was confident that he could beat _ALL_ of the Saibamen. But he was distracted by Vegeta which led to that Saibaman surprise attacking him and SDing. And if you forgot, SDing in Dragon Ball is _very_ powerful. Chiaotzu is weaker than even Kid Gohan and couldn’t lay a finger on Nappa. But when he SD’d? Enough to rough up Nappa a decent amount. Vegeta was getting bullied by Majin Buu and was almost out of energy? SD’d and almost erased him from existance.
Yeah i remember recently rewatching OG for the first time in years and being surprised how a lot of the human squad was super badass ,people just forget because they haven't had the spotlight on them in a long while

Didn't someone do the math on the Kikoho pinning bit and it was actually hours 'cause of how it had to fill the gaps until Vegeta and Trunks got out of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber?
It was also kinda used for a gag but during the 21st world tournament roshi, disguised as Jackie chun, and krillin fight, and at one point they completely disappeared for a couple of seconds and then reappeared and it was shown a good bit happened in those couple of seconds, so in the second arc of the series we already had characters going faster then the speed of light.
People will always forget that Yamcha was dunking on multiple saibamen alone, he did get a little cocky, but it was also nothing he couldnt handle, its not like he was getting his ass whooped in that scenario, he was giving them the paws. He died because he let his guard down and got caught by a surprise suicide attack, and that forever tarnished his name amongst the community.

Can't forget that Yamcha was able to manhandle Recoom on King Kai's planet, and Tien whomped Burter and Jeice. Burter was thrashing Vegeta, Krillin and Gohan not too long before that, and Jeice and Burter were supposedly around the same level of strength (but with different specialties)
When I first read the Dragonball manga, Tien immediately became my top favorite! Tien Vs Yamcha, Jackie Chun, Goku, that overarching story is something I remember dearly, it was like he became the main character briefly!
Weirdly enough a good bit of that arc was about pride not being all that important of a thing, yet later on in the series it’s used as a huge point and motivating factor for some characters, mostly vegeta.

I had this same debate with a friend of mines a couple years ago. I even added Hercule that if he existed in real life, he can and will easily beat any strongest man competing. He’s incredibly strong but is overshadowed by the z fighters. This dude literally dragged 3 buses into a stadium like it was nothing and if we were to take that into real world examples we can use a greyhound bus which weighs somewhere close to 18 tons. He dragged 3 which would mean that this “weakling” actually dragged a combined weight of 54 tons. Most humans feats are ignored to a point that they just get forgotten about.
Naruto at 16 was picking up 100 tons plus. Madara summon two asteroids in seconds and Ounoki held them both up at 60+ years of age. Don’t underestimate the Naruto characters strength.

I've always loved the humans especially Yamcha, they really don't relieve any love. And the most love he got recently was when someone was isekai into his body.
I personally think that Tien is the most underutilized character in Z and Super. Besides the Shin Kikoho, he didn’t get much in Z, and Super actively assassinated his character, leading to the second worst elimination of the Tournament of Power.
I personally think Chiaotzu is underrated and under-utilised as well. Krillin only won against Chiaotzu due to … well Chiaotzu gave him the victory on purpose… Chiaotzu’s telekinesis and paralysis effect are strong. Basically stopped krillen in his tracks. But I think characters with other similar abilities are more just cameo characters sadly. Like Guldo and Bacterian…
Yamchu, Chiao Zu, Roshi, and Yachirobi are all kinda underudulized. Yamchu did absolutely nothing of value, Chiao Zu at least damaged Nappa a bit and thats it, Roshi retired, and Yachi at least got rid of Vegetas Tail, and is a Coward who avoids hard fights. And dont start whit non Comebat Charakters like Pool. I loved Pool as a Kid.
I wouldn’t say that chiaotzu gave krillin the win, it was krillin showing how clever he can be in battle, he realized chiaotzu needed to use his hands for his telekinesis to work and found a way to exploit that weakness and beat chiaotzu.
Yamcha, Tien, Krillin, hell even Chiaotzu, solo Naruto at the very least ALONE. Hercule even would be able to box with any anime that doesn't include superpowers. Imagine him, but Baki-fied. I mean, dude survived getting slapped by Cell and that is a literal casual planet busting monster.
A crazy thing is that in the filler, the dead Z Fighters got the chance to fight the recently killed Ginyu Force. All of them, thanks to King Kai, were able to take down the force. That means all of them became far stronger than Vegeta when he first came to earth and after his second Zenkai boost (recovery from Earth and recovery from Zarbon).
I just watched OG ball for the first time this year and some of it's a slug to get through. But I actually has a lot of good story in mythical elements. That just are never picked up again throughout the rest of the series.
Two things that upset me 1.) We see the spirit ball used like once, when it was one of the cooler moves 2.) Why hasn't a human tried to use the kaioken technique yet? They all trained under King Kai at this point:(

I always felt this way, even without having watched OG Dragon Ball. Which, I agree is the best version since, from what I heard, it isn't focused on increasing power just the adventure.
Tien is my favorite human. He's actually my favorite character from the entire franchise. Bro knows his limits but keeps pushing himself ALL THE TIME. No plot armor, no favoritism or race hax; just pure training and hard work, and I am down for it.
What I dislike about dragon ball super is I don’t think they show off the side characters enough. I mean in dragon ball super they really slept on Majin Buu and his ability, he could have fought in the tournament for earth but nah. I feel they really downplay them but that’s just my opinion

I remember having a similar discussion and pointing out that in OPM, the definition of "Threat Level God" is "Presents a threat to humanity as a whole". A single Saibaman COULD solo the human race, given enough time.
It wouldn't even need to be given that much time. Master Roshia was destroying the moon with a power level in the low-hundreds. And Piccolo did the same. Destroying the moon is a feat that's definitely great enough to qualify for wiping off the first several kilometers of the surface of the earth.
Heck Yamcha beat that saibaman that killed him and even beat friggin Recoome after HE Ragdolled Vegeta ✨. And Tien technically trains harder than the other human Z fighters. Also I love how not only does OG DB how amazing storytelling but the best of fight choreography when compared to later in series ✨✨✨✨
I'm just glad the video games at least give us the opportunity to give us these scenarios on the regular, because I hate when my humans get hoed like that. By the time Krillin got a potential killing blow on a Destructo Disc, it was literally useless. Like, damn, I hate it here if I'm not a Saiyan, Android, literal God, or just a juiced up alien.
Alot of youtubers who make what ifs of dragonball say the raditz couldnt blow up earth. Yet he is around 4 to 7 time the strength of roshi (depending on the translation). Who blew up the moon with a single kamehameha in og dragonball. The earth is only around 4 times the size of the moon. Even if you cant blow it up, you hit the core it detonates like a bomb.
Blame Toriyama. He made both Yamcha and Tien 3rd stringers while everyone else was getting power ups. At least Tien was in the Tournament of Power. Legend has it Yamcha is still waiting for Goku to ask him 😅
@@saucevc8353 I think that would break the logic of that Universe. Saiyans are known for their ability to evolve through battle. Humans can learn how to fight better and even grow stronger but, their maximum potential is still well below any Saiyan Warrior. Krillin himself is the still strongest human but, even he won't be going "god mode" any time soon.

Hell, Goku literally learned ultra instinct based of the teachings of Master Roshi, yet none of the humans including Roshi can actually achieve UI? In original Dragonball era, and even early Z,, the human fighters were the ones developing a variety of crazy techniques and pulling out weird tricks. The Yamcha that had one of the first direct able ki attacks, Krillin nearly kills Nappa (if Vegeta hadn't warned him!) With kienzan, Tien and Chaozu psychic powers, even Roshi can read minds... If they were allowed to still optimize those abilities, they could be major threats. And, as Roshi shows, it isn't implausible any of them could learn Ultra Instinct and level the playing field.
Honestly I think they'd be more interested in training with each other and learning one another's skill sets. Yamcha and Guy would probably make fast friends
Someone once said Yamcha and Tien are the worst of the best and that's very accurate. They're both crazy-strong but they only appear weak because they're surrounded by universe-level gods and aliens.
In the Revival of F arc we see how much the humans have experienced made them stronger. Strong enough to be unphased by hundreds of Frieza’s forces. Shame that Yamcha and tien have been relegated to the sidelines though. Really hated that bit where they kept showing us Yamcha to make fun of the fact that he wasn’t chosen.
By the time the human characters were freiza level they were already fighting Cell who was such orders of magnitude above in power that even Vegeta needed a 7 year timeskip to be able to overtake him.
I would love because tien comes from a 3 eye tribe, that he will awaken his third eye. This would open so much potential. Yamcha can master kaioken. And maybe a concept that only humans can have the hormone called adrenaline. It would fit for tien since he also has often pumped blood. It would be so cool, having a transformation called „adrenaline boost“ and he combines it with his 3 eyed tribe transformation.
That’s the same thing I thought too! I don’t think the high tier Naruto character are able to hang with the low tier dragon ball characters, at least when it comes to strength, speed, and durability.
Tien shinhan particularly is such a mother fucking badass in DB, his fight with goku might be the best fight in the whole show. that saga is so fucking good. OG Dragon ball in general like you said is by far the best. It felt real, the characters were complex and deep and felt real, you got invested in them. Bad guys like king piccolo, tien, Jr, general tao etc and the variety in the show, red ribbon army. DB greatest martial arts anime ever
Another one of my favorite moments is Tien vs Semi-Perfect Cell. I always get chills from the voice acting and that scene (especially with the Bruce Fualconer score) and the gap between him and Cell was large, but the Tri-Beam was still super effective.
The Cell Jr that Tien and Yamcha were able to survive against would destroy everything in the Narutoverse. Tailed beasts and Ass Pull Moon Goddesses included

Yamcha only quit training consistently after Cell and his last confirmed power level was on King Kai's planet where he was in the 50-60 thousands. Imagine how strong he got in his 3 years of training for the Androids with the knowledge that the Androids made Frieza look like a joke. A crazy thing is that in the filler, the dead Z Fighters got the chance to fight the recently killed Ginyu Force. All of them, thanks to King Kai, were able to take down the force. That means all of them became far stronger than Vegeta when he first came to earth and after his second Zenkai boost (recovery from Earth and recovery from Zarbon).
I just watched OG ball for the first time this year and some of it's a slug to get through. But I actually has a lot of good story in mythical elements. That just are never picked up again throughout the rest of the series.

Tien is my favorite human. He's actually my favorite character from the entire franchise. Bro knows his limits but keeps pushing himself ALL THE TIME. No plot armor, no favoritism or race hax; just pure training and hard work, and I am down for it.

What I dislike about dragon ball super is I don’t think they show off the side characters enough. I mean in dragon ball super they really slept on Majin Buu and his ability, he could have fought in the tournament for earth but nah. I feel they really downplay them but that’s just my opinion

The new super movie really underutilized cell I thought they were gonna bring him back as some new perfect but we got a color change version of the dragon ball heroes card version you know when he gets corrupted by a dragon ball

It wouldn't even need to be given that much time. Master Roshia was destroying the moon with a power level in the low-hundreds. And Piccolo did the same. Destroying the moon is a feat that's definitely great enough to qualify for wiping off the first several kilometers of the surface of the earth.

Heck Yamcha beat that saibaman that killed him and even beat friggin Recoome after HE Ragdolled Vegeta ✨. And Tien technically trains harder than the other human Z fighters. Also I love how not only does OG DB how amazing storytelling but the best of fight choreography when compared to later in series ✨✨✨✨

Man after watching og dragon ball (finally) and Ngl tien has quickly become a favorite of mine
Alot of youtubers who make what ifs of dragonball say the raditz couldnt blow up earth. Yet he is around 4 to 7 time the strength of roshi (depending on the translation). Who blew up the moon with a single kamehameha in og dragonball. The earth is only around 4 times the size of the moon. Even if you cant blow it up, you hit the core it detonates like a bomb.
Blame Toriyama. He made both Yamcha and Tien 3rd stringers while everyone else was getting power ups. At least Tien was in the Tournament of Power. Legend has it Yamcha is still waiting for Goku to ask him 😅

Toriyama had the perfect chance to give the humans a power up with ultra instinct and God ki, but instead just made the saiyans even more op.
@@saucevc8353 I think that would break the logic of that Universe. Saiyans are known for their ability to evolve through battle. Humans can learn how to fight better and even grow stronger but, their maximum potential is still well below any Saiyan Warrior. Krillin himself is the still strongest human but, even he won't be going "god mode" any time soon.

Hell, Goku literally learned ultra instinct based of the teachings of Master Roshi, yet none of the humans including Roshi can actually achieve UI? It's a technique, there's no reason only Goku should be able to do it.

The fights for me is what brings OG to such heights Red Ribbon Army Arc was a bit too long but every tournament arc and Piccolo Arc was elite

The Yamcha that had one of the first direct able ki attacks, Krillin nearly kills Nappa (if Vegeta hadn't warned him!) With kienzan, Tien and Chaozu psychic powers, even Roshi can read minds...
If they were allowed to still optimize those abilities, they could be major threats.
And, as Roshi shows, it isn't implausible any of them could learn Ultra Instinct and level the playing field.
Honestly I think they'd be more interested in training with each other and learning one another's skill sets. Yamcha and Guy would probably make fast friends

In the Revival of F arc we see how much the humans have experienced made them stronger. Strong enough to be unphased by hundreds of Frieza’s forces. Shame that Yamcha and tien have been relegated to the sidelines though. Really hated that bit where they kept showing us Yamcha to make fun of the fact that he wasn’t chosen.

By the time the human characters were freiza level they were already fighting Cell who was such orders of magnitude above in power that even Vegeta needed a 7 year timeskip to be able to overtake him.

I would love because tien comes from a 3 eye tribe, that he will awaken his third eye. This would open so much potential. Yamcha can master kaioken. And maybe a concept that only humans can have the hormone called adrenaline. It would fit for tien since he also has often pumped blood. It would be so cool, having a transformation called „adrenaline boost“ and he combines it with his 3 eyed tribe transformation.

Tien shinhan particularly is such a mother fucking badass in DB, his fight with goku might be the best fight in the whole show. that saga is so fucking good. OG Dragon ball in general like you said is by far the best. It felt real, the characters were complex and deep and felt real, you got invested in them. Bad guys like king piccolo, tien, Jr, general tao etc and the variety in the show, red ribbon army. DB greatest martial arts anime ever
Another one of my favorite moments is Tien vs Semi-Perfect Cell. I always get chills from the voice acting and that scene (especially with the Bruce Fualconer score) and the gap between him and Cell was large, but the Tri-Beam was still super effective.
The fact people are needing to discuss this at all is surprising to me.
Like use the early versions of Tien and Yamcha to make it fair at least.

Yamcha only quit training consistently after Cell and his last confirmed power level was on King Kai's planet where he was in the 50-60 thousands. Imagine how strong he got in his 3 years of training for the Androids with the knowledge that the Androids made Frieza look like a joke. He must've at least gotten as strong as Base Namek Frieza Fight Goku. In the manga he's mentioned training with Gohan and Piccolo
